D2 is a great knife steel in general, very wear resistant and holds a great edge, tougher than truck stop toilet paper, but it's hard to grind and heat treat. In my experience from 30 years of throwing, I've broken more stainless knives than carbon or tool steel. I did snap a coldsteel tru flight once and several older hibbens. The problem was more that the wood was too hard rather than anything wrong with the knives. Target wood is very important. I recommend pine tree sections or other soft evergreens. Big palm-tree stump sections are the absolute best but extremely hard to come by. If you're building one use the softest interior lumber you can find. Hardwood equals broken knives and fewer sticks. Have a great week.

The big log round I use for all my throwing videos is pine! such a big difference compared to the smaller ones next to it that are cherry.

Do the d2 and/or spring steel still create burrs when the knives hit eachother?

You can create a bur with any metal but with the spring steel and D2 you have to hit them much harder. I can't recall ever making burs on my D2 knives but I am sure you can do it.

@jcdupuy4809 I like Throwing Zone a lot. I probably have 20 knives or more from them. Some of my most interesting knives came from Throwing Zone.

@jcdupuy4809 DXB has had trouble shipping to the USA for a couple of years now so I have not had the pleasure of using any of their knives. I will check out Lanceur de l'ame.
