- Brown University demonstrators celebrated and hugged one another as they dismantled their encampment after striking a deal with university officials to bring their divestment demands to a vote in October.
The university agreed that five students will be invited to meet with members of the Corporation of Brown University in May to hear their arguments on why the institution should divest funds from companies connected to the Israeli military campaign.
Officials said that they would still hold disciplinary proceedings related to the encampment which broke the university’s rules.
The agreement came amidst a crackdown by US police on pro-Palestinian encampment across US universities. More than a thousand people were arrested over the past two weeks at Columbia university in New York for taking part in a similar encampment.

What the protestors are doing is great but I don't understand one thing regarding these agreements reached: Can't the uni boards or whatever, put to vote the proposals, vote no, and say, "Sorry we tried."?

If Brown university is serious about divestiture, then they need to publicly show all countries and all businesses that they are financially tied to. What about India and the treatment of their Muslim population or their wretched caste system? What about China and their systematic efforts to eliminate their Muslim population and their blatant intimidation of their neighbors? The list goes on. You can't just divest from the "popular" causes.
