Dan was being squandered with and politicked out of the WWF by the usual suspects, everyone's thinking business first so he probably thought it'd be a great way to get some notoriety as an MMA guy in the wrestling business for heat. He ended up making the right decision though since, 1: the other wrestlers would've caught on and together murdered him, 2: no-one in WCW would've wanted to work with him since he'd have shown himself to be untrustworthy in the ring, and 3: Bischoff didn't capitalise on Bret Hart and he was the easiest shoot situation to get a win over Vince with - WCW's incompetence would never have worked in Dan's favour.
Because at that time there's every chance Eric Bischoff would pay that kind of money to someone to make the WWE look bad on their own programming. Hell, he already had a sort of history of that when he paid Madusa extra to drop the WWF Women's Championship in the trash on live TV.

@@J_Cubed i guess i need too pay closer attention.. Thanks for the correction!
Damn Allergies, eh?...
Ok tv Karate😅
Mark definitely would have ran!
Steve had the personality of a stick back in wwe.
