Before we started keto, I was looking for a way to get my diabetes under control. The meds were doing nothing but making
me sick. For a year , I researched keto and talked to dieticians and doctors who told me it would not work because once you have diabetes, you have it for life. Fast forward, the last time I saw the dietician, she looked at my results and her . jaw dropped. She was so amazed that she showed her colleague. Then our doctor had some tests done and she phoned me with good news that all my bloodwork was perfect. I now take nothing for diabetes and all the swelling has disappeared. She is more of a believer now. I hit a weight loss plateau this year but seem to be back to losing it. Thanks for being one of the people helping us learn and keep on going.

You said a long time ago in a video "nobody ever got fat eating carrots" in response to the keto police judging you for throwing in a couple carrots into a big pot of soup or something and that has stuck with me this entire time.
Thanks for the advice and straight forward approach to keto!

The first time I did low carb. I didn't know much about it. I just stayed under 20 net carbs a day. I used the strips and they never registered. I didn't do Intermittent Fasting. I lost 54 pounds in one year. Now I am doing Intermittent Fasting and find it helps my digestive system. You have to listen to your body. The Lord made us all different. FYI: although you don't need to fast to get a lot of the benefits of keto, my energy levels got super-charged once I started doing OMAD with a few 3-4 day fasts thrown in. Keto got me down at 5' 11" from 240 to 215, though I got lazy. After ballooning up to 260 lbs. again, keto + fasting got me down to 185 lbs. and still going.

Confession time. While I don't put butter on everything, in fact I put it on very few foods, I do love, absolutely love adding a few tabs of butter to my freshly grilled ribeye. Since I let the meat rest for about 5 minutes after removing it from the grill to let the juices settle and redistribute, here is where I add the butter, then cover the steak loosely with foil. The way the butter melts and blends with the natural steak juices....it produces an incredible au jus that is amazingly delicious.

When I first started keto, I tried bulletproof coffee and decided I just couldn't do a cup of greasy coffee. I was used to drinking coffee black and that's what I continue to do. I have been in maintenance after a 40 pound weight loss for 4 years, doing IF and sticking to fresh foods and snacks I make myself. I stray on vacations and other special occasions. As you have pointed out, keto doesn't have to be complicated or calorie laden. Good points.

Love this video! Those of us who started keto back in the dark ages, know you don’t need any of those things because our journeys predate the processed “keto” stuff, exogenous ketones, shallow, blanket keto advice like never eat carrots or tomatoes or onions, bulletproof coffee, etc. I actually think it was easier then because you had to learn and understand the science and mechanics behind eating keto - knowing why makes effective choices so much simpler.

@@onyekachi9662 I'm not sure what to tell you. I just try to stay about 25 NET carbs daily. I have done lots and lots of research to find substitutes for the foods I crave/craved. My tastes have really changed. I like chocolate Atkins shakes warmed in the microwave for hot chocolate...sometimes with sugar-free Reddi-Whip. 😁 I toast pecans in the seasoning used for Chex mix, and I rely on low carb bread. If I can have a sandwich, or a hamburger, like "normal" people it's a lot easier.

I'm a type 2 diabetic, and the keto diet is one that the dietician put me on, with the approval of my doctor. I don't check for ketone, but I check my blood sugar a couple of times a day. It's gone from sky high to low normal. My family is thrilled, but are still worried that I'm "setting myself up for a heart attack" if I follow this diet. Well, if that's the case, I'll go out happy. I feel better, even my mood is better. I feel more present, except when I have a migraine.
I want to thank you for all the information you provide to beginners, and for all the recipes. I especially like the one where you cut open Italian sausage and fill it with cheese sticks. Yum! And the great thing is that the non keto members of the family can enjoy it withbpasta, while I have my favourite roast cauliflower! Really, given a choice, I'd opt for the cauliflower because it tastes better. I think this is something I can live with for the rest of my life.

@@onyekachi9662 honestly just seeing what works for you. Meal prepping has help. Usually when I don’t know what to eat I get bored then make a high calorie meal that sabotages me. I just do two meals a day one is something on keto bread, the second is a salad with protein. Sometimes a snack if I’m feeling it like a keto bar , almonds, olives, cheese string, or those quest chips. But the 2 standard meals has made the difference. And being mindful to keep fatty albeit low carb foods out (like heavy cream - I don’t touch it. I started Keto lifestyle June 29. A1C 6.8. I had my yearly physical and just got my Quest report and my A1C down to 5.6. So many groups push the Ketones and other products; confusing to someone new on Keto. I appreciate this video because it cleared my mind about various products. I did take your advice, and my doctor agreed, to drink electrolytes upon waking in the am but said not to overdue it. I tried several and the LMNT are my favorite. I just ordered the bundle. Thank you for your videos and recipes.

Oh God, how could anyone have more than one cup of bulletproof coffee?? It makes me so full. I have never been a breakfast person, so it's basically my breakfast. I don't use MCT oil in it anymore, but I do put collagen in it. And I just use full fat cream instead of butter. Maybe not the greatest for everyone, but I love my Kalona cream. 💕

I've been watching your videos off and on over the last couple of years and realized I had not yet subscribed so now you have one additional subscriber!
Loved this video. I've been low-carb off and on over the years but in May I decided I needed to start tracking what I was putting in my mouth. What an eye opener. After 2 months of staying 1200 calories and 20 net carbs or less per day, I was not losing any weight. Decided to switch to 20 TOTAL carbs or less per day (and still 1200 calories or less) and now am 25 pounds lighter. Only 10 pounds to reach my goal! I continue to track everything because I still don't trust myself. And especially when I reach my goal - I plan to be tracking for a long time. It helps that I'm OMAD and can see at a glance where I am macro-wise, and can choose to add stuff (or not eat something) to keep my macros in line.

I miss ketosis--I just never get there any more, maybe I'm using the ketones instead of spilling them into my urine, although my breath doesn't smell like ketosis. I've lost 100 pounds in the last 3 years, still about 60 more to go.

Sounds like you're fat adapted, it means your body is now extremely efficient at using ketones so it no longer wastes them through urine, etc.

I don't count anything. I just stay super low on carbs. 2 meals a day. Normally an omelette with either salmon or bacon for lunch, and meat and broccoli/cauliflower for dinner. Can't stand mct oil. I do splash out occasionally and put a tablespoon of milk in my coffee. No fruit except blueberries and strawberries. Musashi recovery bars if I desperately need a snack. Down 30kg in 6 months.

I love your common sense approach to keto. I am realistic & know that I’ll never give up veggies or red wine, soooo…I knock myself out of ketosis at dinner, then I’m back in by noon the next day! Who cares? You gotta enjoy life, right?

Very useful video, it's true that even if something is keto doesn't mean you have to stuff your face with it. Keto foods are more calorie-dense, so they're easy to overdo. But I really believe in intermittent fasting on or out of keto - let alone the health benefits, but it also helps build self control. It also helps with shrinking of the stomach and after a while you get satiated with less.

This is the best video ever…everyone was at that beginner phase and eventually you just know that all that stuff isn’t necessary. Unfortunately people follow influencers like they speak gospel. Just do what works for you…just because someone on UA-cam does intermittent fasting or BBBE doesn’t mean that you are doing it wrong.

I don't fast simply because when I start eating I find that I have trouble stopping. Dr Vera Tarmin of Adapt Your Life discusses this and says that for people who are food addicts or have issues with food as opposed to carb addiction that fasting is NOT a good idea and also suggests that it might be helpful to do portion control and measure your food.

I do Keto for overall improved health, not for weight management. As for chocolate, I make my own from pure 100% dark chocolate and cacao butter. There are numerous health benefits to dark chocolate. I eat a good amount daily and since I make it, I know what’s in it. Feel free to indulge in dark chocolate.

Definitely stay away from all processed keto foods like cookies, bars, treats, etc. Just make your own. I know it take some time and effort but in the end you will save so much money since these products are so much more expensive than their regular counterparts. I guarantee your version will taste a lot better than the store bought version with cleaner ingredients.
