Skydive Vibes first I turn on AAD, then, with rig reserve side facing me, I start at leg strap on right side and move up checking all webbing, buckles, 3 ring system and cutaway, all the way to tuck tabs. Move to left and repeat down with chest strap on this side. Then, lay rig down reserve up, check reserve pin , loop, rsl cable and all. Close that up, open main flap, check pin for smiley face and color in window and frays on loop. After all that, check boc elasticity and ensuring pilot is stuffed in good. Then I give the boc a good slap on its butt signaling it’s good to go. Then it’s jumpy time!!!
Always remember this: When you check your leg straps, be sure that the colored pointed line (generally red, blue or yellow) is complete with no broken stitch. If you find a broken stitch ask your rigger because leg straps get the most g force when openings and if there is a broken stich the whole strap can broke by the force. So be aware with this very important tip. And forgive my english i am learning thank you! End of the comunicate :p
I forgote this one. Always check your rig in order of importance. 3X4 1. Handles (3 handles) 2. Chest and leg straps (3 straps) 3. Three rings sistem (3 rings each side and rsl) 4. Accesories (3 of them: helmet, alti, googles ) How? If you are not geared up, check eache one withe the whole sistem. By example, if you are checking your PC handle then check bridle and closing pin. Now if you are geared up the check is in the same order but not so deep but always ask for a pin check and do same on the plane before the exit ;D
new thing to look for in newer rigs...many of the newer containers lack the velcro to keep an RSL in the channel. Make sure the RSL is in its channel on these newer rigs (or old for that matter, they just don't have this issue with the velcro). It can lead to a two-out situation if the RSL becomes routed over the main lift web when you pull. Don't ask how I know lol.
Catherine - I know you didn't focus on accessories in this video, but I prefer to treat it as an integral part of gear - knife! I always check, I have one, if I know how to take it out and grasp intuitively - especially in rented (unflown) gear Oh! Almost forgot :-D, great thanks for the video!
Thank you for posting all these videos. Hopefully doing my first tandem soon...maybe next weekend. Getting use to all the equipment and terms will definitely help.
Great video! Can I just add that if you are doing a gear check on someone else make sure you know the equipment as something as simple as opening the reserve flap and putting it back slightly wrong can cause a malfunction. Also, I understand doing a 3x3 check in the plane but a full gear check would be impossible in a crowded aircraft, would it not?
Not to undermine Catherine's channel, but Colin Scott Thomson's channel has a lot if interesting videos on different aspects of gear. He's a veteran rigger, currently working at Empuriabrava, Spain. I found his video on pilot chutes particularly enlightening (and it addresses the unreliable nature of the bridal window check). ua-cam.com/users/thomson1963
💥How do you do your gear check before your jumps? 👇👇

I also always check my cutaway and reserve handles, if they are attached properly and also the cable is running freely.
