I got to see this movie on the big screen for a special showing. Wow I’ve watched this on TV but watching it on a big screen was an experience. It was remastered for today’s theater technology and man the colors just popped.
None of these stories about how difficult it was to realize this movie are new to me. I've been hearing them for years, and I imagine so have many others. Many have become Hollywood legend. Good idea to have three trailers from different eras!
Speaking of kids being scared of the Wicked Witch, she reminded me very much of my 4th grade teacher who was about the same age as her and just as mean. She used to slam our heads on the desk after shaking us like rag dolls if we did anything unacceptable, like smile or laugh. So this movie was very real for many kids and all too close to real life for some of us. And don't forget the theme and most famous line of the movie "There's no place like home" which was perfect to be heard at home which is where the movie truly became a classic, at home on TV.
An irony is that Margaret Hamilton, who played the Wicked Witch, actually was a schoolteacher in her younger days. Hope SHE didn't bang kids' heads on desks!
Mr. Badham, you are one of my all time favorite directors and writers on moviemaking! Great that you are back on TFH. And with such a movie as this one too. Movie critics are really not to be trusted in any way. There are very few art critics worth their salt, and even fever in a generation who reviews movies. There is only a couple per century, people like Burke, Ruskin or McLuhan. Merry Christmas everyone one!
The IMAX restoration showing in 2013 was absolutely amazing! Top 5 experiences I've ever had in a theater. I cried with joy!

I also experienced the film on the big screen. During the cyclone scene everyone in the theater was leaning back in their seats.

Jeez, for such a light hearted movie they went through some dark stuff
The three trailers were great. Keep them coming.
The most heartbreaking moment in movies? Dorothy leaving Oz.
