The technology they developed for the Munchkin voices is truly amazing and also considering all the music was recorded in multi-track sound it’s nothing short of a miracle we can get to listen to this 85-year-old film in real 5.1
A classic book that will never grow old, though it's now been around for 124 years. 🙂 Dorothy is a Princess of Oz, and has lived there with her uncle and aunt for almost that long.
@@MaskedMan66it's looks great and good to I just love it so much it's looks like it so much better now I just like being in new movie made into maze in wizard of Oz sounds like story life look back
Glinda is obviously Billie Burke’s signature role. I could not imagine another actress playing the role. She was 54 when she was in “The Wizard of Oz” back in the 30s. She could have been mistaken for someone in her 30s.
Legendary movie that ended up giving us so much beyond just this film. I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying this, but The Wizard of Oz was the first musical I ever watched, and it is the reason I like musicals so much. I go back to this one usually at least once a year. Also I love the fact that all of the practical effects in this movie could be reproduced on a stage (yes, even the bubble effect for Glinda, as Wicked has shown us). It's one thing to have a 300 million dollar budget and a ton of CGI to work with, but it's an entirely different thing to make everything by hand and be able to tell that all of the characters are actually there.
Billie Burke was married in real life to Florenz Ziegfeld. In the early 20th century he was a world famous businessman and investor. He was known as a famous early vaudeville and showbiz impresario. He was the founder of the famous Ziegfeld Follies.
@@michaelverbakel7632 Very true! Sadly, he'd died by the time she played Glinda, but she was still treated like the showbiz royalty she'd become as his wife.
When i first saw the munchkins I was always impressed in how well the civic guard/militia marched in rhythm and I could tell that a professional drill instructor had put them through the paces. I always imagined that if the evil witches took over their realm those little munchkin soldiers would have turned out into great guerilla fighters....but that's the wistful thinking of a 12 year old kid watching the movie on TV.....
In the original book the movie the wizard of oz is based on there are actually 2 good witches there's addaperle the good witch of the North who rules over the northern region of oz and glinda the good witch of the South who ruled over the southern region of oz for the movie they decided to make both good witches into 1 character and in the books ending glinda didn't show up in Emerald city to tell Dorothy about how she could use the magic slippers to get home Dorothy and her friends had to travel all the way to glindas side of oz to ask for her help
Addapearle was the name given to the Good Witch of the North in "The Wiz." In the Oz books, her name is Tattypoo. And MGM didn't so much combine the two GW's as much as flip-flopping their realms.🙂

What happened was just this:

The wind began to switch, the house to pitch
And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch

To satisfy an itch, went flying
On her broomstick, thumbing for a hitch

The wind began to switch, the house to pitch
And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch
Just then the Witch, to satisfy an itch
Went flying on her broomstick, thumbing for a hitch
And oh, what happened then was rich
The house began to pitch
The kitchen took a slitch
It landed on the Wicked Witch in the middle of a ditch
Which was not a healthy situation for the Wicked Witch
