I just received my 2018 s max on may 5th.and this is one bad ass motorscooter. Fulfills all my expectations on how much is life can you say that. Quick and nimble handling. This has made me very happy I pulled the trigger and made the purchase... Great bike.
There is some advantage to having turn signals far enough apart so other drivers can actually tell which way you are turning. Not everything is meant to be a styling gimmick.
Wow, what a machine. I’m looking at one of those made in 2020. I went to the dealer here in Sacramento yesterday and they told me they have the last one around these parts. Seems the factory shut down production for Covid. They are HARD to find. The Xmax not so much. I couldn’t really decide but I’m really thinking now the Smax might just be the ticket (Bad choice of words but...) for me. Seems to have a lot more power than I had imagined. What a great enthusiastic review. Very much appreciated!
One of the greatest thing about that scooter is the tachometer. You called it silly. That is the best tool to see how your belt and/or rollers are wearing. Knowing what your engine speed is doing is a great indicator of how your drive system is holding up. I've added digital Tachometers to scooters without a tach. Embrace it!
Great point. Don't get me wrong, I like having a tach and like it even more now for the reason you pointed out. It's just that for day to day riding it doesn't come into play too often since there are no gears to shift. I think this is one of the only scooters in this cc class to have one actually. It does look cool 😎
I’m 5’10” and could not get comfortable in the seat . My legs hit the handlebars to make turns. My 2022 Honda ADV150 just purchased fits perfectly without sacrificing nothing. To me it’s the long distance ride now and then.👍
I have a older Yamaha Vino 125 and you can sit on the back part of the seat if you are tall with no problems. This is harder to do on a stepped seat like this scooter has.
I bought the Yamaha Force 155, a shortened, lighter sport version of the SMAX. Really love the ride. I did change the seat right off the bat for a MTRT seat that a bunch of friends with both SMAXs and Forces recommended. No more helmet hump. Also upgraded it with a JVT CVT kit. There is a 183cc upgrade kit, but for my driving, I really don't need it. Want it yes, need it no.
Been riding my Smax for about a year now. put about 4000 miles in that time and I love it. Side Note: Im a big guy. Im 6'2" and weigh 255. I have no issues with sitting, steering, turning...everything. Getting about 80mpg and my top speed on the 5 freeway here in San Diego was 81MPG. Saving me a grip on gas.
Good news about it fitting a taller rider. I had read if the driver is 5'11" or more it would be too cramped. I'm 6 foot so I'm going to start looking for one. Thanks
I'm 6'2" and 200-210 pounds and I fit fine. However, almost all my rides are under 10 miles at a time so it's not really enough time for me to feel cramped.
@@jackchueh1231 I sold it in November of 22 and got almost what I paid for it with 10K miles on it. I miss this bike and I kinda wish I hadnt sold it. I now live in a east coast city where parking is a bit of and issue, but i'll be graduating to a bigger cruiser soon....Vulcan 900?
The combined braking system of the PCX is a very nice safety feature, especially for newer riders. However, the 267mm front disc and 245mm rear disc of the SMAX are far superior to the 220mm front disc and 130mm rear drum of the PCX. They're actually the same brakes found on the faster and heavier 300cc class Yamaha XMAX and bigger than the ones found on the 300cc Honda Forza, so Yamaha has arguably over-engineered the brakes for the SMAX which is great. They provide much better feel and stopping power IMO than the PCX. Also, the wider tires on the SMAX probably help with the br,aking as well since they have a bigger contact patch with the road for the brakes to work with. Tire width is 130mm rear and 120mm front for the SMAX on 13" wheels vs. 100mm rear and 90mm front for the PCX on 14" wheels (for 2019 PCX gets 120mm rear and 100mm front tires)
@@gatorgreg1565 This is true, but I have never felt any braking issues with the PCX and the combined braking works well in the snow. Anyways, the tires that came witu the PCX were not the greatest and the valve adjustment/check every 5k adds to the cost of ownership. I knoe that the Yamaha does't need this check as often.
Good thorough review, you have me sold on one of these. Been thinking of getting one of these for riding on my military base back and forth to work. With your height and weight stated, I am 5’10 and 240 so I know this 155cc will haul me around with no issue. This would be perfect to use making short grocery store runs or going to the gym with.
I’ve been renting a Yamaha N Max 155 in Thailand for the past 3 months. I think Honda has more refined motorbikes but the Yamaha’s seem to be tuned for more spirited driving. I’d love to try the S Max. I’m originally from Kissimmee, cool to see some footage from Orlando.
Had mine for a year now. 5K miles on it and going strong. Here's the good the bad and everything else.... The good: Great gas mileage at about 80mpg. Great handling at even high speeds. I take it on the freeway here in San Diego and its super comfortable. Top speed without redline is about 75mph for me. The Bad: No passing power on the freeway. Its dangerously fast from 0-50, but from 50-70 its just not that peppy. The REAL bad is the upkeep of the bike. Your oil change will cost about $220 every time. They need to adjust the valve and its all labor; the parts and oil are like $20. I guess what I save in gas offsets the maintenance costs. Regular (right now in CA on May 28, 2019) is averaging $4 a gallon. Lastly, the engine is quiet. Not good when tying to get attention of other drivers. Also, with the smaller profile, cars will change lanes in front of you....be ready and on alert! Everything else: Im a big guy, 250lbs and 6'2". I have NO problem on this bike....even with my petite girlfriend on the back. Very comfortable for long rides (longest consecutive ride was 70 miles). Great storage under the seat, but it cannot store full faced mask. I usually carry a backpack, water, food, and extra clothing under the seat. Roomy glove compartment for a cell phone, glasses and gloves....even a small water bottle. Bottom line! Get one! They are fun and very versatile in an urban environment. Park it anywhere, great gas mileage and good storage. In retrospect, I would have wanted the bigger 300cc engine for the amount of freeway driving Im doing. But I'll ride this bike until it dies!
Watching PCX videos I can already tell this Smax has more oomph and character while the PCX is vanilla predictable, more gadget heavy. Not a bad thing but choose which style you like
Hi Greg! I bought my SMAX in November but I am in Vancouver Canada so I won't be plating it until late February...unfortunately this is no Florida! I got the 2015 model which does look very nice along with the red calipers. They had new 2016, 17 and 18 but prices crept up obviously. With no mechanical changes or exterior changes getting the cheaper 2015 was a no brainer. Got it with under 1 mile on the speedo for about 2200$ (cdn). I was going to go with a PCX originally but after reading and watching some videos I decided to go with the SMAX. Also in Canada the PCX is no longer even being sold! Only scooters up here are pretty much all from Yamaha and Suzuki. Thanks for the vid, enjoyed it. I'm not an ATGATT freak but try it out man...can't trust them 4 wheelers out there! Stay safe brother.
Thanks Greg. This video sold me. Was settled on the PCX as the only scooter I considered buying as my first but doing more research and watching this video led me to go check one out at the dealer and ended up buying it today!. I'm 6'1" with a 32 inch inseam. Sitting on it does seem like a smaller amount of leg room compared to the PCX by just a bit but it wasn't uncomfortable at all and definitely not enough to steer me away. Maybe a custom seat with in the future is a possibility to make it even more comfortable. Definitely prefer the classic scooter style compared to the PCX as well. Cheers from West Palm Beach!
Wow that's awesome! What year did you get? We should start a Florida SMAX Owner's Club - LOL. Yeah I'm 6'2" with the same 32" inseam as you and find it perfectly acceptable. I think I mentioned it in my vid, but almost all my scooter trips will be less than 10 miles at a time anyway. My commute is 7 or 8 miles each way and other than that I primarily use it for just going the 2 or 3 miles it takes to get me to the gym, grocery store, sub shop/burger joint, state park, etc. But even for a bit longer trip like I did in this vid I was pretty comfortable. That said, I wouldn't want to ride it to Miami - LOL. Yeah the flat floor is great, as I mentioned in the vid it came in handy when I unexpectedly bought three 12 packs of soda instead of just one -LOL
@@gatorgreg1565 I got the same 2018. Very nice in black. Count me in the SMAX club! ;). I sold my car a little over a month ago as i work out of my home office as it was just not getting used anymore and decided i needed something to run errands, small grocery runs, and short commutes, basically the same as what you use yours for. Thought the scooter was the perfect tool to fit the bill but also have fun doing it. Cheap to own, maintain and insure. Not sure why more people don't own them here in the states (I do know why, it's an image thing - haha) but i love the idea.
Yeah the black is very nice - they say once you go black you never go back - LOL. If you look at it closely in the sun you’ll see it has little flecks of red, green, and purple. So far I’m very impressed with the quality and fit/finish of my SMAX. FWIW, Consumer Reports says Yamaha builds the highest quality motorcycles, even ahead of Honda - see link. Hopefully it carries through to their scooters. www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/04/who-makes-the-most-reliable-motorcycle/index.htm?userWantsFull=true
As far as why scooters aren’t more popular in the USA, I agree with you on the image thing. Ironically, in my experience a puppy is probably the only thing that beats a scooter for meeting and chatting up beautiful young ladies - LOL. If you don’t believe me, ride it around the parking lot a couple times at your local grocery store or upscale gym (without a helmet so they can see and talk to you) and you’ll quickly find out what I mean! I think it is also due to how cheap our gas prices are here in the USA - just look at the whole yellow vest protest in Paris recently to see how fed up the Europeans are with their super high gas taxes - makes riding a scooter much more appealing if gas is $7 per gallon. Here in central Florida and especially down in your part of the state the weather is very conducive to riding practically the whole year round - you will love it!
@@gatorgreg1565 a trip to Miami would make a great video... I am thinking on buying an Smax or a PCX to ride all the way down to key west from Miami. I just don't know if the engine can handle a long trip like that.
Hey Gator Greg, very good review. I just got one a few months ago and I usually just ride it around town. I'm glad to see that it can also handle the hiway, if necessary. I've always wondered how the smaller diameter wheels would handle higher speed. Do you feel any instability, especially on turns, when going more that 50mph?
el velocímetro marca mas velocidad con llantas de menor diámetro esto es porque las llantas chicas hacen la vuelta o giro mas rápido que una grande, pero en realidad recorren menos distancia.
I'm trying to decide between a leftover 2020 Yamaha SMax or the 2021 Honda ADV150. The ADV150 is much cooler/better looking and is more like a bike, being that it has the tunnel, rather than a step-thru design. The SMax is quicker though and has a higher top speed. The ADV150 tops out at 68mph and Greg had this going much faster. I fit on both of them fine and they are both equally comfortable...decisions decisions...
I have a China 150 model 1P57QMJ - (a GY6 engine) The P stands for "(P)air valve horizontal engine. The P series engine has a taller cylinder head and a shallow recess cam seating that gives it slightly more performance than non-P GY6’s engine code." but it's not as upgradable as a Non P GY6 unless you change both the cylinder and cylinder head. I want my next bike to be an SMax but at 328 lbs vs my 194 lbs scooter I'm not sure I can handle it. I'm only 5'3 and 110 lbs myself. It's why I choose the smallest lightest bike I could find for a beginner. I do want the extra top speed of the SMax for the highway.
My other concern is seat height. The SMax seat height is 31.3. My scooter is 28 in which I had to shave down because my inseam is 27 in. I'd have to really be able to mod an SMax seat.
Hey Gator Greg I have a question?? If your daily commute is mostly on suburban boulevards with 35-45 mph why didn't you get the newer 2019 Honda PCX 150 .... I'm just curious because I can't decide between the PCX 150 or the SMAX and my daily commute speed is about the same between 35-50 mph?? I like the looks of the PCX over the SMAX but since you had/have both of them what are your thoughts..... Thanks and I enjoy your videos
In the beginning of the video he talked about having an older, smaller displacement, flat floored Honda 110cc scooter and it made him appreciate the utility of the flat floor. I can't speak for Greg but it seems like that and maybe the performance, we're the deciding factors.
The cameras you pointed at are traffic cams. The red light cameras are on poles by the sidewalk. You can see them clearly across the street to your right. I am going to get the Smax 2019 in a couple weeks.
1. Were you able to source those Japan market Turn Signals for your s-max? Please share about your findings. 2. What is the latest with your Scooter any upgrades or did you let it go? Thank You
I’m deciding between the pcx150 and the Yamaha smax. Since you’ve had both which is more reliable to you overall ? Have you had any issues with either one ? Far as steering, tires, ect ? Which would you recommend and why if you had to choose the pcx150 or Yamaha smax scooter ?
About a month ago - I miss it a little but I don't miss gearing up with a helmet and leaning over in the heat - LOL. She was a great bike and didn't do anything wrong but after I got my convertible a year ago I was riding her less and less and taking my vert more and more. I was fully geared up for my scooter ride in this vid since I was planning to take it on a high speed highway run, but normally I'm in shorts and flip flops when I ride a scooter in suburbia. Wearing ATGATT on a scooter is sort of like wearing a condom for a blow job - I'm sure it's much safer but it's a hell of a lot more fun to go without (cue the ATGATT lynch mob - LOL)
So, Yamaha's faster, but less safe. (No combined brakes and no full-on ABS) As a guy who crashed his Buddy 125 by locking the brakes during panic braking for deer, I can say there is REAL value in ABS and linked brakes. Great scooter though.
How does it fit larger riders? I've read that legroom is tight for anyone over 6 foot. Is it a problem? Does one need to buy the expensive Corbin saddle if they have longer legs?
Yes it's comfortable two up and will max out at just over 80 mph (indicated) on flat smooth road in a tuck. But if you watch my video you'll see it can cruise steadily at around 75mph (indicated). It's fast enough that I felt safe and comfortable cruising along in the right lane of a highway with a 70mph speed limit. The few cars that were passing me weren't blowing me off the road or anything.
When you say you were "filtering" aka lane splitting, keep in mind that it is only legal in California (in the US), not Orlando, Florida. Otherwise I really enjoyed your review, very informative.
I am still undecided what to get between yamaha smax and xmax 300 , I like the flat floor of the smax but I like the power of xmax .I dont know the price gap difference..If I ask you what do you prefer? thank you..
I have the Smax and the gas mileage alone is much better than the Xmax. Of course you get the better freeway experience with the Xmax, but the Smax holds its own on the freeway as well. I think the biggest question you need to ask yourself is "how much freeway/highway driving will I be doing". The Smax is fine for short freeway drives (its fast as hell from 0-50 but has little passing power over that). Top speed on my Smax is 70-74. But I live in CA and the freeway speed limit here is "as fast as the guy in front of you". 80% of the time I have no problem, but last night I drove home at 1am and I wanted to be passing the drunks, not staying in their blind spots. My suggestion; what will you be driving 60% of your commutes? If its back-roads, get the Smax. If its freeways with over 65mph, get the Xmax. The price difference is quite substantial between the two bikes and the gas mileage isnt anywhere near that of the Smax. Hope this helped!
I've never ridden an XMAX but I have sat on a couple of them. I must say they look pretty cool in the new matte black for 2019 and I bet they haul ass (for a scooter, LOL). They are much more expensive than the SMAX but they do have some very nice features like the keyless ignition for example. And while it shares the same size disc brakes as the smaller SMAX, the XMAX gets ABS unlike the USA model SMAX. That said, I think I would prefer the SMAX for my needs. I ride mostly on suburban boulevards with 35-45 mph speed limits. In that environment the extra power of the XMAX would be a waste. From 0-50 my SMAX feels very quick. I think it's also about 75 pounds lighter than the XMAX so SMAX is probably a bit more nimble. But to me the main advantage of the SMAX is the flat floor design, it really comes in handy as I discuss in the vid. It also makes it look more innocent for lack of a better word. This lends itself to me being able to park it wherever I want, like right on the curb directly in front of restaurants, the gym, and stores, etc. I don't think I'd be able to get away with that in the XMAX cuz it looks much bigger and kind of like a motorcycle. The SMAX on the other hand has the classic scooter look going for it.
@@gatorgreg1565 Hey Gator Greg I have a question?? If your daily commute is mostly on suburban boulevards with 35-45 mph why didn't you get the newer 2019 Honda PCX 150 .... Hey Greg, was wondering if you could help me out. I've been driving a kymco people 200i and have been thinking about switching it out for either an xmax or an smax. How did you find the smax at highway speeds? My kymco has nice 16" wheels (which makes me a bit wary of the smaxs 13s) but it has very little wind protection, so once I hit 50-55mph, I'm getting pounded by the wind and tend not to feel as stable as I'd like. Although most of the time I'll be driving it at slower speeds, I do have a regular ~10 minute highway jaunt (55-60mph) so want to make sure the smax would be comfortable doing that regularly. I also do the odd 2-3 hour stint, mostly highway (60mph) a couple times a year so want to make sure the machine I get can handle it comfortable and safe enough. Wind deflection and stable feeling on the road are the biggest factors for me in that regard. **for reference I'm 5'8" ~160lbs
If you want it brand new you can find them in Most motorcycle dealers that sell yamaha. I know there is a cycle sport center in Orlando that sell yamaha motorcycles and scooters; however, i have never been there.
Kymco doesn't sell the Racing King 180 in the USA but I looked it up and found it on their Philippines website. Looks like a very good scooter and I like that it has a flat floor design. Should definitely be faster top speed than the SMAX with the bigger engine so if you're gonna do a lot of highway miles that would probably be a better choice. I like the little Kymco song, LOL ua-cam.com/video/DjpDxyuVYcE/v-deo.html
In the dry yes. However, the other day I got caught in a rainstorm on my way home and I was a little worried since I normally don't ride in the rain and my last bike had ABS and traction control - but I made it home in one piece with no problems.
I don't know much about the Vespa but they look sexy and would make a great chick magnet (think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, LOL, see link below). I just looked it up though and the reviews say it tops out at only 59 mph and has 12.9 hp. The SMAX has 14.8 hp and will top out at just over 80 mph and cruise at 75 mph (indicated). So if you want to have the flexibility to take it on a highway I'd say the SMAX is the obvious choice between the two. But if you're just cruising around in suburbia I'm sure the Vespa would be fine. I'm thinking the SMAX is probably gonna be more reliable than the Vespa. FWIW, Consumer Reports did a survey and Yamaha was ranked as the most reliable motorcycle manufacturer, slightly ahead of even Honda. ua-cam.com/video/ExVWQ_I-elI/v-deo.html
HOW do you ride with no hands on a scooter with an automatic tranny? As soon as you let off the throttle you decelerate.. at least that's how my scooter works.
Agreed - it would be nice to see ABS as an option. However, see my comment to Jaguar below about the brakes - the SMAX brakes are much better than those on the PCX and have the same size discs found on the faster and heavier XMAX - they have the feel and stopping power of a small sport bike IMO. As far as I know, there have been no mechanical changes to the SMAX in the USA since its introduction for the 2015 model year. Color choices were blue and titan in 2015, red and gray in 2016, raven in 2017 and 2018, and red for 2019. Only the blue 2015 edition had the cool red brake calipers. In some overseas markets I've seen that the SMAX (aka Majesty S) got a facelift to include LED headlights (and I think ABS) around 2017 or 2018. But the specs for the 2019 model in the USA appear to be the same as the 2015.
I ride my Smax on freeway and back roads. My longest, single drive was 80 miles with absolutely no problems on the freeway. Comfortable and stable, but you'll be in the slow lane for most of the drive. Not much passing power, but its lethal between 0-50mph.
Nah, that sounds like a fun trip actually. If you break it up with a couple of stops along the way (maybe one for gas and one for food) you should be fine.
I don't know what city this is. Our city removed the red light cameras. It turned out that a company that installs the cameras collects their money first. All the left over money goes to the State. This is why red light cameras find their way into most cities. One of the problems turned out to be that company that installed the red light cameras intentionally made the yellow lights a half second shorter in order to catch more people running red lights. There was a lot of talk about this company and in all the debate about the safety of red light cameras. It turned out that shortening the yellow light made those intersections more dangerous. In fact if you wanted to make all intersections safer you would increase the yellow light by a full second to give everyone a chance to clear the intersection. Increasing the yellow light's time by 1 second also resulted with virtually no red light runners. In my honest opinion red light cameras don't make it safer. I wouldn't mind them installing red light cameras as long as they also increase the yellow lights time from 4 seconds to 5 seconds. They'll never do it because doing so would render their red light cameras wouldn't generate revenue at that point.
@@jaydoesanything7652 I'm going to assume, at least I hope, that the OP meant do they need a motorcycle endorsement to ride this size scooter. I live in Pennsylvania and in this state we do. Can ride a 50cc or less with only a driver's license, no motorcycle license needed. Large than 50cc you need the endorsement.
I don't know where you live but I can say that Florida has the same law as what Scott described above for Pennsylvania. So yes, not only will you need a driver's license but you'll also need the motorcycle endorsement to legally ride tthe SMAX. The SMAX is fast enough to get you in serious trouble if you don't know how to ride so you'll definitely want to take the motorcycle riding/safety course that most states require to get the motorcycle endorsement.
@@gatorgreg1565 love your videos man! My wife and I were seriously considering SMAX's but ended up getting a really nice used Suzuki Burgman 400 instead. I'm hoping she will start to learn how to ride it and eventually want her own machine. We both appreciated your thoroughness and attention to the details that matter.
62 is a very good speed for that cc though, and in all honesty would be plenty fast enough for most of the roads I take my SMAX on. I think the Zuma gets around 100 mpg so it definitely has some advantages. It's pretty cool though to be able to blast up over 70 mph with ease on my little flat floor scooter, LOL
I owed one last year and sold it after only 600 miles because of 2 tier seat. Forces you to sit like a monkey f*cking a football. No real aftermarket options and didn't want to make one on my own. Went back to Zuma 125 with flat seat
Is that GPS verified? I know Yami's spedos are optimistic. Top speed on mine per the GPS 73 mph on my Zuma 125 with a 158 cc Big Bore Kit in it. Not bad but I'm 200 pounds.
That SMax does an indecaded 80mph but the actual Final is more like 70-71mph . But as far as Fast Flat Scooters take a look at the KYMCO PEOPLE GTI 300 it has 28.9HP 30FPT, with a actual Final of 85-90 rider weight dependant, oh & it weighs 367lbs. I have one myself a 2016 . Check this out. ua-cam.com/video/hZrKc6sFH40/v-deo.html
Very nice! I guess I should have said the SMAX is the "fastest flat floor scooter currently in production" - LOL. Looks like the Kymco People GTI300 was discontinued after the 2017 model year and its replacement, the X-Town 300, doesn't have a flat floor - link to info on the People GTI: www.motorscooterguide.net/Kymco/People-GT/People-GT-200i-300i.html
Yes im aware, & i though it is a Lame Replacement in my opinion. It is less expensive than the GTI 300 hast a 278cc engine with 24bhp , & as you mentioned no flat floor.
My SMAX shows 81 MPH but GPS indicated 76. So, 76 it is. The difference is 4-5 MPH at high speeds, but the error decreases at lower speed. If I ride 60 MPH, GPS would show 57..
I just received my 2018 s max on may 5th.and this is one bad ass motorscooter. Fulfills all my expectations on how much is life can you say that. Quick and nimble handling. This has made me very happy I pulled the trigger and made the purchase... Great bike.
Glad you're enjoying it! Yeah from 0-50 this thing rocks (for a scooter, LOL)
There is some advantage to having turn signals far enough apart so other drivers can actually tell which way you are turning. Not everything is meant to be a styling gimmick.
Agree. I have a 2015 S-Max and frankly prefer the outboard signals
I have this exact same scooter. Love it! gets me around San Diego getting about 85MPG. Don't hate! I'm getting around nicely!
Awesome! Yeah San Diego would be a great place to have a scooter with the weather you guys have.

@@emmanuelzuniga not really. Just stick to the slow lane. Not much passing post. Still useful on the freeway.

Excellent review. Love the extra speed over a Piaggio Liberty.
I like the looks and this little bike will fly. The water cooling is huge.
I had been trying to decide between this and the PCX. Excellent video. Thank you so much for making it.
Same. Which did you end up going with?
I miss the flat floor I had on my 2009 Vino 125cc. But my new 2022 Honda ADV 150 checks all my boxes for ride and speed.
Can't believe there isn't more hype for this scooter. Great vid with all the info a prospective buyer NEEDS TO KNOW!!! Ride Safe & GOD BLESS!!!
Be sure to check out my "Yamaha SMAX Review and Night Ride Test / Ice Cream Run" video located here: ua-cam.com/video/a164-NRZcmE/v-deo.html
Thanks
@@leonz6429 Just left a 5k mile review below. Check it out. I still love this bike and its super practical for almost everywhere I need to commute.
I'm 6'2" and 200-210 pounds and I fit fine. However, almost all my rides are under 10 miles at a time so it's not really enough time for me to feel cramped.
Do you still have the scooter? Took mine on the 91 freeway first time… kinda a hairy experience with the legs not squeezing the gas tank.
I remember looking at this bike, but I got the PCX due to the larger wheels and the combined braking. But this was back in 2016.
@@gatorgreg1565 - Many Smax users switched tires to 150 in rear and 130 in front.
I have been looking at midrange scooters. This may be the one. Excellent review. It helped in my choice.
Thank you for your comprehensive review
That’s highway robbery on the oil change cost. At $220
Holy Moly - Can't believe you hit 80mph with 150cc. That's awesome.
That's 80 MPH indicated which is about 72 MPH in actual speed.
Pretty kick ass scooter! I love the step through design over the PCX150. Think I'm in the market for 1 now.
Looks almost exactly like the asian market Nmax,,,,I live in the Philippines and own a Nmax...its a great little bike
Do you still have the SMax? Any issues pop up? Great video and review.
I used a dremel tool to cut away the plastic on bottom of seat to eliminate the hump. Now my backbone doesn't fight that hump anymore.
Hmmm... I have a dremel, I might look into doing this, thanks!
Happy christmas and happy new year 2021 from slovakia!!!
Im in the market for either the PCX or the SMAX. Im 5"8 32 inseam. Which on will fit me better? Which one has a better suspension?
I'm trying to decide between a leftover 2020 Yamaha SMax or the 2021 Honda ADV150. The ADV150 is much cooler/better looking and is more like a bike, being that it has the tunnel, rather than a step-thru design. The SMax is quicker though and has a higher top speed. The ADV150 tops out at 68mph and Greg had this going much faster. I fit on both of them fine and they are both equally comfortable...decisions decisions...
We really miss you, Gator Greg! Would love to see some new content on your latest adventures and an update on the Smax. Hope you are well!
Great review. Not ay all boring and good observations
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Did you get the SMax?
1. Were you able to source those Japan market Turn Signals for your s-max?
Please share about your findings.
2. What is the latest with your Scooter any upgrades or did you let it go?
Thank You
@gatorgreg1565, where can i get the windshield on your bike?
I am research Yamaha Smax 155 Thanks telling me more this scooter!
Looks like a great small bike even to go on the highway awesome
When did you sell the interceptor? Do you miss it? This thing is pretty fast.
Just curious how your full face helmet fits? I have an SMax as well and can’t get my BILT Charger helmet to fit inside
So, Yamaha's faster, but less safe. (No combined brakes and no full-on ABS) As a guy who crashed his Buddy 125 by locking the brakes during panic braking for deer, I can say there is REAL value in ABS and linked brakes.
Great scooter though.
Yeah it would be nice to have ABS, there are a lot of deer that wander around my subdivision, especially early in the morning and late at night.
65mph is top speed GPS speedometer reads 5mph fast . I've owned one of these 2.5 years put over 5k miles on it
Your a real tool for weaving between cars like that!
How does it fit larger riders? I've read that legroom is tight for anyone over 6 foot. Is it a problem? Does one need to buy the expensive Corbin saddle if they have longer legs?
Two other fast flat floor scooters.. genuine hooligan 170i.. and the genuine Buddy 170i... Both come pretty close in speed to the s Max
I’m wondering how you see the gauges past the handlebars when riding??
I do hope this scooter Will be released in Indonesia as soon as possible
Scary fast?
A 180 cc Italjet Dragster with a 200 cc head and all mods WITHOUT nitrous oxide is 40 hp.
A factory 155 cc Yamaha Smax is 15 HP.
11:35 Regarding your reported speeds: Is the speedometer optimistic? Thanks.
Yes, it's optimistic by about 8-10%.
Did you ever connect a scanner to your smax or do you know how it's done?
Hi on a flat road with a head wind what is your top speed?
How does this do on the highway with 2 people and is it good for touring with a passenger?
I had a hard time to hear your deep breath, you need to see your doctor to check you rhythm of your HEART buti anyway its a nice video for SMAX
Is it worth getting an SMax for my delivery job?
I hate putting tons of miles on my car and the gas and parking with the car is killing me.
I would say yes. Specifically if you get a topcase box. You can save a lot of gas, and it is easier to find the address when you're not sure.
When was the last time you had it up to 80 mph. ?
Nice thinking about buying one just sold my 125cc Zuma today what’s the top speed on one of this an is it comfortable for 2 people thanks
The few cars that were passing me weren't blowing me off the road or anything.
we need a SMAX update.
Anyone know the fuel capacity on these?
7,4
How often do you have to check your values? Thanky
Good question!! I'd like to know also
nice -great /thanks much
When you say you were "filtering" aka lane splitting, keep in mind that it is only legal in California (in the US), not Orlando, Florida.
Thanks for your all feedback and insight.

**for reference I'm 5'8" ~160lbs
did u listen to this video cause he told u already. damn were u stoned or tweaking tell the truth lol.
Where did you buy these scooters here in Orlando Florida
If you want it brand new you can find them in Most motorcycle dealers that sell yamaha. I know there is a cycle sport center in Orlando that sell yamaha motorcycles and scooters; however, i have never been there.
How many years will a scooter last you?
I need this wone can you please give me location and you guess nobur

I'm stuck between getting one of these and getting a Kymco Racing king 180i.
I like the little Kymco song, LOL

If you'll had potholes and jittery roads like we have in Memphis I don't think you'll be doing no hands lol
Hi Greg. Do you feel safe riding without abs
In the dry yes. However, the other day I got caught in a rainstorm on my way home and I was a little worried since I normally don't ride in the rain and my last bike had ABS and traction control - but I made it home in one piece with no problems.
Have a chance on a smax or 2015 vespa sprint 150 any thoughts?
Sprints are great. As long as you don't need any body work. Cha-ching!!
HOW do you ride with no hands on a scooter with an automatic tranny? As soon as you let off the throttle you decelerate.. at least that's how my scooter works.
I CAN REACH ONLY 108 POR HOUR IN MY 2016 VERSION MAYBE THERE IS SOME SPEED LIMITER
Wish this had abs. What does this year have over the intro 2015?
@@gatorgreg1565 Thanks. Might get a 2015 this weekend. Excited.

Hey Greg, I love my Smax. I was thinking about driving up from Jacksonville to Orlando using some back roads. Do you think that’s too long of a drive?
I've seen the Colombians making the route Bogotá-Medellín (420 km.). See your self ua-cam.com/video/Uq4GNanGORE/v-deo.html
What is the handlebar width on this bike?
I have no idea, sorry
Gps top speed please
Do I need driver license for this motor cycle ? I am going to buy one 2019.
Isn’t it common knowledge you need a license to ride on public roads?

62 is a very good speed for that cc though, and in all honesty would be plenty fast enough for most of the roads I take my SMAX on. THE BEST SPEED IS GPS 126 KM/H~~~MY YAMAHA SMAX 155 !!!
Is that GPS verified? I know Yami's spedos are optimistic. Top speed on mine per the GPS 73 mph on my Zuma 125 with a 158 cc Big Bore Kit in it. Not bad but I'm 200 pounds.
Mine reach only 107 o don't know why
Already put escape I mal variatore
What’s the mpg?
I haven't calculated it myself but Yamaha claims 81 mpg on their website:

Thanks
do a search for "fuelly yamaha smax"
Fantastic Review! Very Informative and Entertaining... Cagers! HaHaHa!

By the way very well done video bro liked it.
My SMAX shows 81 MPH but GPS indicated 76. So, 76 it is. The difference is 4-5 MPH at high speeds, but the error decreases at lower speed. If I ride 60 MPH, GPS would show 57..
Thank you!

Tried to watch but all that heavy breathing made me uncomfortable and had to peace out.
