GRAVEL BIKE ADVENTURE RIDE -- Testing the limits of the Jamis Renegade

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- After the photo shoot in Breckenridge ( • PHOTO SHOOT WITH PEARL... ) we decided to do a big loop from Breck to Keystone to Dillon to Frisco and back to Breck. But, instead of just riding the road/bike path, we wanted to test out our new "road" bikes (Syd on her Jamis Renegade, Macky on his Jamis Supernova) on all sorts of terrain. So we chose a route that included dirt road, double-track, bike path, road and a bunch of singletrack. And the bikes were amazing!
Hope you guys enjoy this one -- we're super excited for this video because 1) it was a ridiculously fun ride and 2) it's a new kind of a bike adventuring for us!

Thanks. Needing a winter road bike and now I'll be looking at a gravel bike thanks to Syd's bike check.
Love my Renegade Expat! The steel is so much more forgiving than Aluminum or Carbon and isn't all that heavy. Plus, you can't beat the Expat in terms of value for the money. The next model up was almost 2x the price for not much difference.
I just took a renegade out for a demo in Sedona and loved it but u had to keep reminding myself, gravel bike not full sus stop dropping everything it's a demo . Great video 😃
Thought at one stage i was there !!! Nice video , great ride, so suprised no flats, awesome !!!
Have you ever heard of the race called Tour Divide? It goes from Banff, Alberta, Canada to Antelope Wells New Mexico. It’s mostly single track and bush whacking in some parts only 10% of the entire route is pavement and it is a self supported time trial. And you do have to go through customs too. Some of the sights along the route is Yellowstone National Park. Keystone Colorado
You guys are so positive, love your vibes!
😁 thanks!
Love the orange grips 👌😤👍😩
So much arms. lol - looked like a lot of fun!
Yes the arm jiggle is real on these bikes 😂😂
What a fun ride. Thank you for sharing. Great training ride also. Ta da now kick some butt. LOL
you guys are awesome! thanks for the vid!
I love my 2016 Jamis Renegade exile. I know it's just the entry level one, but trust me, after several thousand miles of riding my jamis on all kind of terrain I can honestly say this bike is amazing and big fun. The clement tyres have eaten up gravel, miles of loose rocks, forest trails, road... and they still look like new after a wash. Well done Jamis for designing one of the most underated gravel bikes out there
Glad you're enjoying it too! Such a fun bike!
Great video. Peace
Gravel bike adventures are awesome, as long as you know their limits - singletrack is all good, so long as it's not super steep. Without those wide tires you just can't stop!
True, with smaller rotors and skinny tires, lack of braking power was definitely the sketchiest part!
No way slap some on 40c WTB Nanos and I go pretty much anywhere
With the "gravel crazy" going strong I hope that more 27.2 dropper posts will show up. It's really the single thing that's freaking me out on the downs on my gravel bike... oh yeah and my tires but I picked them to be fast on the roads ;) so that's probably my fault. By the way... which tires are you running and how much PSI. I assume that you run the tubeless, right? Anyway.... thanks for the entertaining video
Vittoria terreno dry cyclocross tires. 65 psi ish!
And yeah, tubeless!
You're about 30 psi too much!
There's a fine line between comfort and grip (way better grip on less pressure) and pinch flatting on every rock!
Great and stable video. What camera and mount have you used?
We use the Rylo chest mounted. No gimbal necessary!
No way to beat the drops! Tomac knew better!
This Renegades look so fun!! Need to pick me up one! Great video guys!
Yeah, it's a great bike!
So what are you running for your computer? Keep up the good work.
Stages Dash
Picking up a Renegade tomorrow. Live in Frisco...looks like the perfect do-all for this older guy.
It's awesome!
This was the best gravel bike video I've watched all week, thank you for providing the footage. It truly helps in these awful winter months.
Soo lovely, thank you! Can't wait winter to pass, wanna ride my trails so much. Such feel when I watch it in the beginning of February, in Russia... Giggle
Great video. Loving the gravel bike adventure
It was an adventure for sure!
that Strawberry Lemonade look refreshing grate stuff and food, nice place grate scenery around your place like the cycle cross bike my Uncle is looking to get One will have show your Video to him looks like you had grate fun on the bikes ;0)
i slide around on my knobby tires, i dont know how you guys do it with those thinner gravel/cyclocross tires. I guess I need to practice more.
What tires are you running?
Great action!
Vittoria terreno dry cyclocross tires!
Whoa! Small world! The three guys you passed and talked to at 11:20 are riders for The Ability Experience. Three teams (of about 20) college men ride from three spots on the west coast to the US Capitol each summer, and spend their nights at community centers that support people with disabilities. I was watching your video for the Renegade and was like, "whoa I know those guys!" Small world! www.abilityexperience.org if you wanna learn more.
Haha! Small world!
Re-watching this video in February (in Maine) to remind myself that summer will come eventually. Always love the great content!
I just got a gravel bike I need to try that great video 👍😊😎
That first hike a bike section leads to a great mountain ride (Blair witch). You should definitely circle back for that sometime on a MTB :)
How much does it weigh?
Haven't weighed them!
Great video. We will have to check out some of those trails. Did you really leave your mountain bikes on the van while you were riding? What do you use for locks?
We have a kryptonite lock so you'd need something serious to get through it. Not impossible of course but pretty secure.
Great gravel bike video, have to go up to breck and try some of the trails.
Now it is time for some hardtail ride after this, maybe compare the two
jaja i did the same is really awesome, isa great video ✌👍🚲
Fun video, those reflectors on those kids were so big, shame that you need to do that on the roads out there but well done to them for keeping safe.
Must be so good when you get back to the van and the bikes are still there!
Yeah, the reflectors were cracking us up too!
I can't get enough of my gravel bike
Its funny they have come out with such unbelievably capable bikes these days that the trails have become nuts to make it fun. If you take away suspension dropper posts and all that just a dirt road can be more thrilling than a double black diamond. I dont know how I have not broken my renegade but I have done everything from road to crazy mountain gravel descents to single track to a 500 mile bikepacking trip. It just eats it up. Looks like y'all were having a blast! Right on.
Yes the gravel bikes are a great way of making easy singletrack challening again. And yes the Renegade is an insanely capable bike. I'm so in love with it!! -S
Looks like a good time. The previews from that shoot I've seen look really good. Looks like you two rode the new versa kits off the set. What a cool ride
SYD, what your height and frame size Jamis Renegade?
5'11" (180cm) and I ride the 56cm Renegade
SYD and MACKY I ride the 54cm Renegade Expert.
What's the point of using a bike like that in terrain like that? You're so focused on keeping the bike up and trail lines that you can't enjoy the scenery for a second. If I had the opportunity to ride in a place like that I would want to enjoy nature more than the bike. I have ridden my cyclecross bike on single track and it was not fun.
It's a technical challenge. Gear + terrain + skill. I don't think everyone rides to enjoy their surroundings at all times. At least, not the cycling enthusiasts I've watched. Many want a challenge and push a bike to its limits. I love watching these types of videos.
Road bikes are not worth a crap off road. It's just that a mountain bike sucks so bad on the pavement. Where a "gravel" bike really excels is crappy paved roads. It's ok on a good dirt road, but you're better off with a mountain bike on most dirt roads. If you're going to ride a not so well maintained highway, with cracks, bumps, pot holes, etc., then a gravel bike is great. The more videos I watch, it's more and more clear that a cross country mountain bicycle with full suspension is better on a dirt road. I've road a hardtail mountain bike, full suspension, and hybrid bicycle down a rough dirt road and all of them are fine. A road bicycle is not.
How long are you guys ridding in Colorado. Great video love you guys. 🚴♂️👍
We were there a couple weeks ago. Our videos run a couple weeks behind
This is Gold me and my mate took our road bikes on a mtb trail once was so much fun keep up the good work
It's fun and such a great new challenge!
Looks like a blast. was thinking of getting a Jamis Gravel bike (Renegade) and was wondering how big a tire can ya put on it?
I think a 40c.
The website says 700c x 42 or 650b x 47
I enjoyed your video very much. I think it’s only fair to tell you that the reason I’m watching this video is because you are riding Jamie bicycles which I also own. I recently purchased the Renegade Expert , about three weeks ago and I already own a Super Nova Cyclocross bike. Look forward to your next video on Jamie Bikes.
So with a dropbar, you gotta go on drops when you might need to brake aggressively?
Not necessarily, you just have better leverage that way. The newer Shimano GRX has redesigned levers that make it easier to brake hard from the hoods.
Are you running the stock cassette on the renegade or have you changed for the climbing?
That looks like it was a blast. Hope you guys have gotten in some good rides, this week is going to be sketchy in CO. Had to cancel my Little Scraggy ride on Saturday lest I become a rolling lightning rod.
Yeah, been storming here in NM too.
That's good though, you guys need it bad.
Yup, no complaints here!
Bravi ragazzi bellissimo video. Questo dimostra che la gravel è una bici molto divertente che permette di fare tutti i percorso… o quasi…. Bravi bravi bravi
Are you filming with a rylo?
Yup. It rocks!
I'll never understand the use of drop bars outside of the velodrome (and road, only due to uci rules). Nice bikes. So what is the difference between the gravel and the cx?
Slightly different geometries is the main difference. The CX bike is racier and the Renegade more relaxed.
Wait. You don't understand road bikes, only track bikes?
Riding drops and skinnies and gravel bikes? Awesome!
😁
Gawd that looks fun.
This video just convinced me to get the Jamis Renegade!
It's a great bike!
when will you post the video about Pajarito?
Either next Monday or the following
Got a Jamis Renegade this spring. I've out about 900 miles on it and everything has held up well but the bottom bracket. Even after servicing, still noisy. Great video!
Awesome bike, isn't it?!
Strawberry lemonade? That's a new one on me!
So yummy!
Yeah, it should be strawberryade... Ok. I''ll let myself out.
I love the variety. The mix of your personality is attractive. Keep it going!!!!!
Epic! A little of everything!!
Can those tires be converted to tubeless?
Yes we're running tubeless!
I want to go there its beautiful ,thanks guys
Well, I'll never understand how people can ride using drop bar on such terrain....
love you guys
What brand and model glasses are you wearing I didn't see it on the website
They're the Shimano Technium. Here's a link: bit.ly/2HVJyhA
Yaaay 😁
Great!
That was frickin awesome
Ok. Thats the bike i want
It's an awesome one!
Pass some rodies!! Be more awesome!!!
This looks amazing. Where exactly is this? In the USA? Canada?
Breckenridge, Colorado, USA
@@sydandmacky looks amazing. I really want a gravel bike, but i dont have many good places to ride me nearby in CT
No back roads near you? That's what we love about gravel bikes, you get to explore all the stuff that you can't on a road bike (rough gravel) but also ride stuff that would be slow on a mountain bike (pavement)!
@@sydandmacky lots of back roads but not alof of gravel. We have a pretty long gravel rail trail but thats about it. Im thinking about getting an orbea terra with sram rival. It would make for a good commuter bike with road tires and also a good trainer bike. My road bike is an s works tarmac with sram red etap so i hate putting that on the trainer 🤣
Tech is good
So cool... you ride that faster than many does on their MTB!!
They forgot the gravel.
The constant herky jerky editing/stringing words makes it so hard to watch. Otherwise looks like a good time!
