I completely missed the actual JT Leroy affair years ago, but the movie was fun to watch.
I didn't know the story behind the movie but now i'm curious, i want to research more
I didn't know there was a film about this! But I liked the novels a lot as a teen, I saw the film, and I even remember the literary scandal. I think there's a lot here that needs to be said about how the literary field in the U.S. cannot just for some reason take a compelling fictional story (where aspects of it have been affecting minors and needed to be told) and sell it--but instead have to have some kind of a controversy (i.e. that the author is a minor and all this actually happened to them) before they will even look at it and the literary industry to this day still takes 0 accountability with how they prioritize shock factor played a part in why the author felt that the only way they could get their work out there was to lie about their identity.
It's actually refreshing and cool af that the real person enjoys the actor cast as them. I dunno, they just seem really cool all around. Fun interview. 👍🏽
I think Stewart's a good actress, always have, but I don't think she was the ideal one to play this. I wish they cast based on voice more than looks. Stewart has many gifts, but accents isn't one of them. They needed someone who sounded more like Martha Plimpton, except younger of course.
She's not the real JT tho. She didn't write anything she was hired to pretend the her.
