This is such a treat. Brandi is killing it, Sarah sounds and looks so lovely, Ben Folds is happy to be included on the shakers, and not just one, but all five Punch Brothers make an appearance!
As soon as Brandi opened her mouth I started smiling and couldn't stop. Love the yodel sound.

This is a wonderful version of an old song, Brandi Carlile gives it joy, as do the other musicians I find myself listening to this every day or so.
My current favorite.
I'm addicted. Damn, that gal can yodel. This is so good, I wish Brandi would tour with these guys or some variation thereof, or at least make an album...I'd buy one for me and one for all of my friends.

Brandi does a superb job on that song.

One of the best covers of the song, love the harmonies after the bridge.
Brandi killed it dead. Back-up was also top-shelf.
Sarah Jarosz was the other woman. She's pretty solid when she sings solo, but she's also an amazing harmony singer.

I loove it for sure!!
I love how her voice cracks at the start, then smooths out, she is amazing.
I love the joy of all the accompanists while she sings.
And I fear that this kind of performance will go away in the post-pandemic world. Something that is source of joy becomes a possible threat one's life.

I think they’re all smiling because they’re realizing how wonderful it sounds. That may be my favorite version ever of that song. Brandi has always had a bit of yodel or voice cracking in her most intense songs. It fits so perfectly here

When Hank told his musical associates(band members,studio owners)that he was going too record and release that song they all balked.they were totally against it.Well he did and that song sent him too the top of the charts.
Hank was the best. he has a permanent seat at the table reserved for the best of the best

I once heard someone remark that, as a work of art, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" ranks up there with a Rembrandt.
Hank’s face is definitely carved on the mt Rushmore of all time great male C&W artists, too bad there’s only room for 4, I’d add George Jones, merle haggard & Johnny cash. Not easy to pick just 4 among all that talent, i can’t find room for Willie, Waylon, Marty Robbins, or buck Owens

I thought of this as a Hank Williams song also, but it was written by Cliff Friend and Irving Mills and was first performed in the 1920s.
+Kevin Spencer FYI: "Lovesick Blues" is a show tune written by Cliff Friend and Irving Mills. The song first appeared in the 1922 musical Oh, Ernest. It was recorded by Emmett Miller in 1928 and later by country music singer Rex Griffin. The recordings by Griffin and Miller inspired Hank Williams to perform the song during his first appearances on the Louisiana Hayride in 1948. Receiving an enthusiastic reception from the audience, Williams decided to record his own version despite initial push back from his producer Fred Rose and his band.
Thanks for the info Kevin and Bill. Imho, it is a song which Hank made his own. You can't possibly think of this song without thinking of the great Hank Williams.
