“You spin me right round…” and now after watching this I’m “saved by zero…”. Not sure why I just hear these songs as I watch this. LOL. Great stuff Mark! I’ll give these ideas a go!!!

Wow! Great description of the cause of this issue. I struggle with this especially when I try to really get some extra distance from a drive. Your solution is something I am trying to do, and the explanation of the cause will make it easier to integrate.

Thanks Mark. I have always had a problem coming from the inside and this video has been a revolution... You naturally do it by keeping your back the target as you describe... Happy days🎉

always appreciate your teachings Mark. How does this advice differ from a recentering move which I guess is more of a weight shift during the back swing versus shift at the beginning of the downswing?

Thanks to you my driver is the best club in the bag. Set it up correctly and hit as hard as possible and that leaves no room for trying to muscle the club around. I get the ball in the fairway much of the time. Unfortunately I can't hit an iron with any power. When I try hitting hard I top the ball. I think the is mostly because of age (72). The days of 155 yard 7 irons appear gone. The good thing is the advent of hybrids. Lots of work to get the range correct.

What I would like to see is not just the pro chest rotation but also the hip rotation, I do wonder whether the pros have earlier hip rotation which in turn then drives the chest rotation.
IMO the reason why many golfers get an over the top movement is they have bought into the "pull the chain" idea in transition so they are pulling the club grip straight down (or close to straight down), that causes the causes the club shaft to become more vertical and results in the momentum of the club head being over the top. If you pull on the grip more out than down the shaft shallows and the head follows (it also gives you room to swing left which straightens the club path). Obviously if you are excessively pulling out compared to down that brings in a different set of problems

If there is a race it is between the shoulders and the arms. Amateurs shoulders turn outraces the arm swing. Pro’s arm swing beats the shoulder turn. Sequencing.

Was only working on this today, after taking some videos and seeing how far my hands were moving out towards the ball. Not keeping my driving in play is killing me. Hopefully this makes a difference!

Nice. Is this also why I tend to heel the driver?? Whenever I try and use the ground I end up totally jumping and either sky it or massive top!

I started pushing off my left foot to gain more distance and quickly realized it made my drives more piercing and straight!.

Mark do you think this works at any age? I'm about to turn 60 and wonder if it's still possible to gain speed and ground force energy at my age.

Hmm, when I slide a little foreword I struggle to close the club face. Have to work on this

Could blocks and duck hooks be due to not getting to zero fast enough? Or keeping back to target too long? in another sense

Do you see that some amateurs try to do this sliding pattern with their shoulders as opposed to the hips?

I hit my best shots when I'm fully loaded at the top and I feel like I "sit down" before the club begins to moving back to the ball. This makes me feel like I'm moving my lower body forward and slinging the club around from that.

Hi Mark, or indeed anyone else. Is anyone having difficulty with the newsletters working? Clicking the link sends me to a “video unavailable” message. Trying to work out if it’s user error/idiocy or if my interweb machine is broken forever

The problem actually has lied in the teaching.
In the 90’s, thanks to David Leadbetter and few others, the desired was to have chest/shoulders parallel to the target line at impact, but hips open. Kind if the correct metafora, but totally opposite to accelerating thru impact!
I had just two pro lessons back in the day, and both of them tried hard to stop my throwing motion and introduce crossing over to keep the shaft on that one plane, which really never have worked and no top professional golfer with any succes have implemented.

Ok, so how do you prevent topping the ball when your chest or rotating past your arms like this? I feel like this might help fix swing path, but then my club head will be more elevated somehow causing tops.
