Reminds me when I bought my `79 back in `87. Paid 1750 for it. Still have it. Horn and blower motor not working either. It was a simple fix. That's a nice one. I went from the 301 to the 350 and now has a 400. 4 speed manual as well. Love those cars.
Literally my favorite car in the world. I don't care if it's slow, I can change that.
Had 2 79 s one 403 one 350 the 350 was a beast on take off but that 403 on the interstate was crazy
My dad had this one in the 80ies...I loved it with passion and always will...

Very rare black/ silver combo. Only flaw with that car is the boat anchor, I mean 301 inch engine
Yup that 301 was good for fuel economy and served me well through college as my daily driver. However it sucked in the cool factor. It was embarrassing pulling up in such a beast looking T/A with no means of backing it up power wise. That all has changed with the all mighty 455 under the hood. The rumble of my exhaust alone is enough to scare small children! I love it!!!
The 301 was ment for the 3rd gen cars which were 500Lbs lighter they had the W72 301's at 170hp which would have been better than the 145hp 305 chevys they stuck in the 1982 cars.

It came with the 301 Pontiac engine. Either regular or turbo boosted.

For those that didn’t know the 1989 Trans Am was a V-6 the only time ever the Trans Am was a V-6 they borrowed the engine from a Buick grand national v6 fuel injected turbo engine. At the time it would out run the Corvette in a quarter mile 0-60 was 4.9 sec I think correct me if I’m wrong which is smoking back in 1989

The Turbo v6 1989 was the 20th anniversary model limited production most came with 350 V8s that year. And the GN and GNX had diffrent heads the Engine in the TA was under rated at 250HP was well over 300HP

This one seems like a clone, or tribute car. No wheel flares make me think it was born a Firebird, plus the manual windows are an indicator. Looks very nice, but a vin search will tell the tale of this car.
Do you need a full time mechanic there at the lot whose only job is horn repairs?
It does have the wheel flares and all the Trans bits are there. If it is a Firebird conversion, they hit on all the interior and exterior parts. Power windows were not standard on Trans Ams.

No there were a number of engines the TA had over the years the Ram Air III, the Ram Air IV, 455 HO , SD 455 and then the TA 6.6 .
Why didn't they put big motors in these cars? 396 or a 427?
Its a pontiac not a chevy. And they did prior to 77. You could get them with a 400 or 455.

The 396/427 are Chevy engines. They were available 65-70 in different models. The best a Trans Am could have in 80)81 is a Turbo-301.
