I like the detail of the desperation in Odysseus’s eyes as he tries to swim away and how when Calypso jumps in after him, she does it gracefully and expertly and manages to catch up to him easily due to her being a sea nymph.
I love how you drew Athena's different reactions when she went through Odysseus' memories and saw the other gods! Her very unimpressed and annoyed face at Poseidon was great. What she must've felt seeing her family members mess with her favorite human...
i do headcannon that she agreed with almost every decision he made (not him trying to save his men from a witch after getting his men killed by a dog) but even though she knew ody sacrificing his crew was prob the best thing he could do for himself it's just so far from the ody she knows
Poseidon and Athena have been known to be at odds with each other now and then. Remember Athens? That city got its name after a sort of “competition” that ended with Athena as the victor.
i love how at 3:11,Ody’s eyes look so lifeless. And also?!At the end,the vines around Ody’s legs as a way of telling that he is stuck in that island?!Amazing
Calypso forcing him to bow using vines is great. I've only seen it with one other animatic, and it totally makes sense with how much she's forcing Odysseus to do what she wants.
@@NerdyCountryGirl93 So? People can abuse those they love, and this kind of abuse is because she is obsessed with him (though she doesn't actually care about his feelings). There's a reason r*pe is so common from family members and partners. In this song, Odysseus repeatedly refused ("Hell no," "I won't be drawn to live in paradise"), but Calypso overrode his objections each time. This is further confirmed by Athena talking about how she's kept him "out of [his] control" and how he's depressed the next time we see him.
@@anniefemmas5097It is impossible to coexist. If they abuse, they're not loving. Refering to @linuxsbsc comment, a reason why r_pe most common comes in the family and partnership has nothing to do with their love but with power they have over one. With the selfishness or/and madness of the r_pist. And love with selfishness CANNOT coexist. We can love them but they do not love us if they abuse us. "The power they have" meaning, the trust and also dependence. The trust their victim has in them and the trust of other family members. That's why r_pe comes so often from older family members to younger. Uncle to nephew, stepdad to stepchild, etc. Isn't it the easiest opportunity to take advantage of someone? Having their trust and having them depended? Dependency is also why so many maids were SA'd in the past. Trust is also why some priests take advantage of children. So no, it has nothing to do with them being our loved ones, it comes from the power they have as pretending to be our loved ones. And maybe that, that then it's harder for the victim to realise and overcome their hurt. Calypso doesn't love Odysseus. She never learnt what's love and how to love. She's mad, for what she cannot be blamed as everyone would go mad after that many years of isolation. However, her feelings are still selfish, because she wants him to stay for her happiness, not his or theirs. So that cannot be love, because love cannot be selfish. She saves him from jumping not because she loves him, but because she cannot stand the idea of being alone again. „Life would be so much worse if you had died” she's talking about her life. and there's nothing in him that makes her feelings, it's just the fact that he exists and she isn't alone anymore. It's kinda understandable. But it's still not love.
i honestly think it was extremely intentional what she did, especially with the open arms line. She says it herself that Odysseus ‘talks in his sleep’ so it isn’t to far off that he talked about missing Polites, his mother, and possibly feeling like her failed his crew and, subsequently, Eurylochus
I love how your interpretation shows that Calypso is lost and doesn't know how to act with Ody, a mortal, acting so depressed and so disturbed. In here I believe that she loves him, at least the idea of him and is desperate to live the perfectly "love in paradise" As always, I loved your animatic, love the expressions (Ody face waking up help lololol) Congrats, Ximena ❤❤❤
1:08 the way Odysseus looks at her like "is this fr rn-" when he sees Calypso gives me LIFE. Also I love how Calypso isn't just some cute, harmless girl here, she's a GODDESS, who definitely has power over him.
The beauty! How calypso giggles like the idea of a mortal killing her is so silly, how she literally drags him from the sea and how the divine light fades from her eyes and her broken smile as she realizes no godly magic can fix what's been broken
3:53 I like how you made calypso in the end after seeing ody break down in tears, she too, starts crying its like she's in a mesh of feeling bad for him but also not really wanting him to leave... but anyway, love ur animatics!
I also like that they're sitting back to back. Even though she knows she can't really help him or fix his issues, she's still staying by his side. He's all she has, so of course she would.
Excellent details throughout. It is her singing in Odyssey that enchants him, and i think you show that well here as she pulls him from the water, turning "you're mine, all mine" into a trigger phrase. Her controlling the island is a nice touch. Making him bow while while keeping up the kind facade is s nice touch. And at the end, i can't help but notice the length of those vines, where they sprout from the cliff, and the fact that they are just around his ankles. It seems to imply that he jumped in the end thinking even Athena wouldn't help him and that she caught him and dragged him back. She isn't crying because of him. She's crying because he'd rather die than be with her.
3:37 It’s kinda cool that when Eurylochus’s part came up, the shadow got darker and “sharper” cause Eurylochus died upset with Ody (I don’t think that was intentional, but I like to think it was)
I love the details of Calypso's eyes glowing and her using her vines on Odysseus. It kinda gives me 'child with too much power' vibes. Which fits, given we know she's been alone for ages now. Even the end card could be her way of trying to compromise with him: I can't let you die, but we can't go inside. So I'll tie you down and stay here. Keep up the good work!
When he clasped his hands and cried, i felt that, At 4:11 the fact that he wouldn't move and Calypso had to tie his legs so he wouldn't jump was so good. And is it just me or did she give yandere vibes? which suits her character ngl. Amazing work as always.
I love all your animatics but I specially like the detail in the 2:22 when she looks down while saying that "No one can't come or go", showing that she's also trapped there and hinting that all of her acts come from desesperation; not that I think she's in the right but is a special way to show the grey morality that all the characters had form the begining of the musical.
She's the only one trapped there if she had just let him leave the first time. "No one can come or go" is her refusing to let him leave, she doesn't fall into the Grey, she's actively in the black by choice. Circe was Grey
1:23 with the fast cuts between Ody and Calypso's expression about being married XD I love the way every step he takes she's right at his side. He can't escape from her or her island. I know she's trapped there too, she's been exiled and can't leave, so I understand her clinging to the only person to ever end up there alive in 100 years, seeing it as destiny, that he must be meant for her. It doesn't excuse her actions but it does explain them. The final frame where she's used vines to prevent him from taking the plunge is desperately sad.
You did amazing as always I especially loved the bit where Odysseus is trying to swim away. It shows how he was truly stuck and my heart broke for him. I haven't seen any one else depict that yet!
I love this interpretation of Calypso. I've read in some places that in order to keep Odysseus trapped there, she would constantly sing to keep him under a spell. To see that being used here with her eyes glowing as she sings and Odysseus succumb to her spell is amazing.
Athena: Well that's not something you don't see every day (Flashback to the time Poseidon flooded the plains around Athens because the Athenians chose Athena's olive tree over his saltwater spring)
I LOVE HOW ATHENA FALLS THROUGH THE DIFFERENT SCENES AND ALMOST INTERACTS WITH THEM!! Also I love how spaced out Odysseus looks when he first wakes up and sees Odysseus!! You have improved SO much in terms of animation from your prior animatics, everything is just pure eye-candy and the emotions are so heart-wrenching :((
I love how you depicted the entire song! The panic attack, how Calypso was speaking to him face to face, everything. The last frame where she's keeping him on the ledge instead of letting him go made me tear up a bit. Keep up the good work!!
This is so perfect. ❤ You included his wound from the mutiny, which is such a nice touch! And I love Odysseus trying to swim away, only to be pulled by back by Calypso, and his anguish on the cliff... you could just *feel that.* Such an great animatic!
God this song makes me cry every time- ESPECIALLY with such a gorgeous animation to go with it. The anguish Odysseus felt when screaming out was so real. Love the detail of Calypso crying while holding Ody to the ledge with vines to make sure he couldn't jump- she's finally realizing that he's been unhappy for so long and could very well lose him.
OMG so MANY details I love it! It just shows how much you care. Like the faces Athena makes when seeing what happened to Ody. I love the take on Calipso! Using more her powers to restrain/manipulate Ody
the very end when they are back to back and she has him tied up by the ankles to be sure he won't jump... that's heavy.... such a good detail. it's amazing.
Oh. My. God. I don't think I could even put into words how much I love this animation. Athena's design, Odysseus's hair changing, Calypso's hair designs, the colours of the backgrounds and how it slowly gets darker over time, Athena slipping through all the memories, Calypso controlling the vines of the island!? This is just incredible, such a good work and incredible art style👏👏👏
@@halothere6995 Well, Eurylocus did also open the bag of winds when Odysseus told them not to, which sent them further back, but yeah the rest is a bit of Odysseus's fault since he revealed his name instead of keeping his big mouth zipped.
Ody would have never been in this situation had Athena let him grieve polities' death. Instead she hammered down on him in an intense moment which led to him gloating to spite Athena, which led to my goodbye, and everything else.
My gosh that was amazing, not me literally sitting here BAWLING MY GOD DAMN EYES OUT on this thing, good job Ximena, you are the first animatic artist that has made me cry over love in paradise👍😭💔
This Calypso is my favorite, I love the way you incorporated the use of her powers and she's more manipulative but also more expressive about Ody's upset on the cliff. Your expressions never disappoint 😂
I looove how desperate you made the whole situation. From the start, you can see in the eyes that Calypso is clearly also desperate and unwell, and Odysseus' fast spiral from mildly alarmed to desperatly trying to swim away. And the ending when they are on the cliff, both on the ground and so desperate for completely different things. Her for him(or anyone), and him to just get away(to be free in any way).
forever and always ximena will be one of my favourite epic the musical animators because BRO!!! this is spectacular and oh my god the ending with calypso's vines holding odysseus feet down, the movement with calypso when she says goddesses cant die, ximena ily pls dont turn into a fish
Welp, another new day, another new form of crying to this song. I always like your animatics because of how you can express the emotions with so much clarity (That's one of the reason as to why I LOVE your Scylla animatic), the prime example being the clear sorrow and sadness that Odysseus has in the last part of this song. Anyways! Keep up the amazing work, I'll go back to sobbing
3:05 I have several favorite moments of this animatic but something about how you had Odysseus clasp his trembling hands here and then raise them to his face really stood out to me in a good way!! Odysseus's torment depicted in just that motion of the hands and growing into his lament until the end of the song! I loved this. And how sinister Calypso was here!! Love love love love thank you for sharing this you're incredibly talented!!!
This is so wonderful! Calypso is really pretty, and the time dive is perfect!!! (Athena holding a pig, then a skull with a resigned face🤣🤣🤣) I also love how he tries to swim away and she stops him and puts him under a spell(?). And I was really close to crying at the final part😭
THE END CARD??? HOW DARE YOUUUU 😭😭😭😭😭 THE WAY ODYSSEUS WAS CRYING THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE ANIMATIC??? OH MY GOD 10/10 (pay for my therapy 🥹) Edit: Also I was SO terrified of you adding Penelope in the second half, and I don't know if it makes it better or worse that you didn't! REGARDLESS, I LOVE YOUR ART THANK YOU FOR SUCH A GOOD LOVE IN PARADISE ANIMATIC!!
OMG THIS WAS SO GOOD I ESPECIALLY LOVE HOW YOU MADE CALYPSO SEEM MORE LIKE CREEPY AND OBSESSIVE COMPARED TO OTHER ANIMATICS AND THE DIFFERENT REACTIONS ATHENA GIVES IN ODY’S MEMORIES THIS IS SO AMAZING
That last frame though?! Ody depressed as ever with plants wrapped around his ankles and Calipso crying? God its perfect! I mean this whole animation is absolutely gorgeous!❤
Best scenes in my opinion 😁 0:17 Athena must have been like "I raise an idiot".😅 0:21 I love how she jumped into the past❤ 1:26 I Love how Odysseus looked so awkward 😅 2:10 I think you're the only animator that gave calypso plant powers ❤ 2:23 she's totally trapped there too😅😢😅 2:37 wait a second, where exactly did Odysseus want to swim to?😂 3:44 omg he's hyperventilating 😢😢 3:54 calypso is actually crying for him and honestly I'm crying too😢😢😢 Over an awesome, detailed and emotional animatic ❤❤❤❤❤
First animatic I've seen Ody with a mustache in. Good touch. Also glad I'm not the only one who pictured Ody trying to swim away. (Knowing damn well he can't)
How Athena looks at the memories is scratching my brain nicely. The little flick to move to the next, the flick to line them vertically off the platform, jumping off the platform and cycling through the memories as she falls…. It’s just so fun! Adds a very nice energy to it.
1:47 _pauses_ is that the ‘Monster’ and ‘Scylla’ eye shot I see there? Hmm… Fitting … but that end screen where she’s used roots to tie him down. Girl (I also stand by your description 😂)
OH MY GOSHH this might be one of my favorite of your animatics so far, not sure because they’re all amazing of course, but the detail.. the vines on his feet, the way he tried to jump in the water, the desperation on both of their faces, Athena’s different reactions as she watches his memories, the clear power difference, the designs, the emotions … I love everything about this it’s amazing! The panic attack at the end was so beautifully done, I nearly teared up. Great work as always!
I KNEW your version of Love in Paradise would be immaculate! I knew that you would give us the most broken, and gut wrenching expression on Ody’s face when he lets out that scream at the end and leave our hearts shattered into bits 😭💔 This was wonderful, beautifully heartbreaking! The way you made Ody age, the beard!? The vacancy in his eyes, the desperation, the grief. Oh the grief! 😭 our poor Odysseus, these single frames at 3:30 and 3:46 absolutely WRECKS me, his scream, the way he falls to his knees *sobbing*
I do love how you're portraying the more forceful element of this part of the story, Calypso outright not giving Odysseus a choice and using her powers to influence him and make him stop resisting. But the way you portrayed his complete breakdown on the cliff is absolutely perfect, complete with Calypso worrying and not really understanding what's going on. Beautiful animatic!
YESSSSS, new animation! I love how you didn’t make Calypso this sweet little thing. She’s giving a little crazy, and it works perfectly. Also the little hand wave motion for “when you washed up on my isle” is perfect. ❤
Such a cute Athena going through the memories, one of the best depictions of Calypso (that she's my wife scene and her crazy eyes and scary body language/magic), and that ending!! You spoil us!! 1:53 was such good visual characterization and 2:36 was terrifying in a way I wish more were!!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE LOVE IN PARADISE ANIMATIC BY FAR WOW!!!! How Calypso at the end realizes she's powerless to help Ody and no matter how much she loves him, she'll never be able to relieve him of his trauma. I also like how when he looked at Calypso at the end he saw his loved ones, people who loved him so dearly that died at his hand (or that he made suffer) and when it pans back to him, he looks absolutely distraught. Her eternal love for him reminds him of the others who loved him eternally, who would've gone to the end of the earth for him. and what did he do in return? He let them suffer. He let them die. I think your illustration of that is super powerful and not something I've seen done by anyone else. Keep up the good work!
WAHHH I LOVE THIS LOVE THE EXPRESIONS YOU GIVE THEM I like when people picture her actually make her make him bow and generally using nature to her favour. And the scene with swimming?? Most people show him running towards the water but he usually just stand there, and portraying him actually trying to escape is woah. I like that take. He's so scared and desperate to keep going through home. And basing on a pose in which she drages him out of the water it looks like he has passed out/she has knocked him out? 👀
0:17 Athena couldn’t help but cringe yet again at that moment 😂
He posted cringe with that one
I can just hear her say "Gods, that was stupid"😂
"...do I really wanna help you?"

That’s a cool fact :)
The last frame, Calypso wrapping Odysseus feet with vines, nice detail.

@@PuccaLover15570 men would be alive, Eurylocus would be alive. Whatever Eurylocus did was a result of Odysseus’s arrogance.
@@PuccaLover15 Yeah, if Eurylochus didn't open the wind bag, Ody's mom would still be alive.
My gosh that was amazing, not me literally sitting here BAWLING MY GOD DAMN EYES OUT on this thing, good job Ximena, you are the first animatic artist that has made me cry over love in paradise👍😭💔
Real
AFJASDJFSFJJA athenea in 0:17 like " omg he just doxed himself"
This Calypso is my favorite, I love the way you incorporated the use of her powers and she's more manipulative but also more expressive about Ody's upset on the cliff. Your expressions never disappoint 😂
I looove how desperate you made the whole situation. From the start, you can see in the eyes that Calypso is clearly also desperate and unwell, and Odysseus' fast spiral from mildly alarmed to desperatly trying to swim away.
And the ending when they are on the cliff, both on the ground and so desperate for completely different things. Her for him(or anyone), and him to just get away(to be free in any way).
1:01 😂 hi Cal, i like you already
Interesting detail that the last page is torn because if Athena doesn't intervene, Ody's story ends here :(
forever and always ximena will be one of my favourite epic the musical animators because BRO!!! this is spectacular and oh my god the ending with calypso's vines holding odysseus feet down, the movement with calypso when she says goddesses cant die, ximena ily pls dont turn into a fish
Welp, another new day, another new form of crying to this song. I always like your animatics because of how you can express the emotions with so much clarity (That's one of the reason as to why I LOVE your Scylla animatic), the prime example being the clear sorrow and sadness that Odysseus has in the last part of this song. Anyways! Keep up the amazing work, I'll go back to sobbing
god the kinky face when Odys pushed her away lol
Definitely my favorite animatic for this one. Your art has always been some of the absolute best in the epic fandom. Well done!
The way you draw Ody crying broke my heart 😭 (I love this video it’s a masterpiece)
Amazing work! I felt the pain and anguish. And the slight sadness in Calypso when she said "no one can come or go..."

@@L-ghtlessSky this guy gets it
I love how in this one frame (3:29) Calypso tried to use her powers on Ody but the man is tired to even be CONTROLLED by her.
These expressions are SO beautiful! The ending with Ody reliving all the deaths he's had to deal with was heart-wrenching. Amazing work!
Big fan of your animatics! The scene with Odysseyus and Calypso on the cliff had my heart heavy
THE END CARD??? HOW DARE YOUUUU 😭😭😭😭😭 THE WAY ODYSSEUS WAS CRYING THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE ANIMATIC??? OH MY GOD 10/10 (pay for my therapy 🥹)
Edit: Also I was SO terrified of you adding Penelope in the second half, and I don't know if it makes it better or worse that you didn't! REGARDLESS, I LOVE YOUR ART THANK YOU FOR SUCH A GOOD LOVE IN PARADISE ANIMATIC!!
Wow, the way you captured Odysseus's agony was so powerful! The vision clouding was such a potent effect.
I LOVE YOUR CALYPSO AND HOW SHE ACTUALLY USES HER GOD POWERS LIKE YOU CAN DEFINITELY FEEL HIS DESPERATION XIMENA YOU DID IT ONCE AGAIN!!
That last frame though?! Ody depressed as ever with plants wrapped around his ankles and Calipso crying? God its perfect! I mean this whole animation is absolutely gorgeous!❤
Best scenes in my opinion 😁
0:17 Athena must have been like "I raise an idiot".😅
0:21 I love how she jumped into the past❤
1:26 I Love how Odysseus looked so awkward 😅
2:10 I think you're the only animator that gave calypso plant powers ❤
2:23 she's totally trapped there too😅😢😅
2:37 wait a second, where exactly did Odysseus want to swim to?😂
3:44 omg he's hyperventilating 😢😢
3:54 calypso is actually crying for him and honestly I'm crying too😢😢😢
Over an awesome, detailed and emotional animatic ❤❤❤❤❤
Ok, but I think your version of Odysseus' screams are my favorite- they look so good and you capture it so perfectly
EPIC WOOOOOOOHHHH THE QUEEN IS BACK BABY
I'm glad someone finally animated this. Thank you. This is one of my favorite part of the epic
Ok but just Athena's part made me go feral dkwndwkjds- THE WHOLE THING IS CRAZY GOOD!!
Also the little ody at the start and his wake up face😭😭😭😭 so funny
YEEEEEEEEEEEEES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU lol.
Your art style is so amazing! Thank you so much for animating this ❤️
1:47 _pauses_ is that the ‘Monster’ and ‘Scylla’ eye shot I see there? Hmm… Fitting
… but that end screen where she’s used roots to tie him down. Girl (I also stand by your description 😂)
The way she fall as she watching everything 😂

*To save Ody or not to save Ody, that is the question.*
We love a chance to see Odysseus shirtles- I mean to see his inner turmoil
(Amazing work as always!)
I KNEW your version of Love in Paradise would be immaculate! I knew that you would give us the most broken, and gut wrenching expression on Ody’s face when he lets out that scream at the end and leave our hearts shattered into bits 😭💔
This was wonderful, beautifully heartbreaking! The way you made Ody age, the beard!? The vacancy in his eyes, the desperation, the grief.
Oh the grief! 😭 our poor Odysseus, these single frames at 3:30 and 3:46 absolutely WRECKS me, his scream, the way he falls to his knees *sobbing*
the emotion in their eyes, you did such a fantastic job!!
Please! Someone give that man a hug and let him go home T-T
Beautiful video, I loved it! Too good and amazing talent, simply a masterpiece
I love how obvious you made it that Athena hates Poseidon 10/10
I was going to comment on athena's immaculate facial expressions. But no. ALL of these facial expressions are peak. Hats off, another banger
No thought, only EPIC: The Musical Wisdom Saga animation.
I love how you made Calypso’s expressions change when she mentions that “nothing can come or go” from the island showing how lonely she is
I never realised before that it was Calypso's "Open arms" that triggered that line from Polites...
You know you don't need to starting with funny and end with Depression 😭
When PTSD is stronger than Calipso's spell
WAHHH I LOVE THIS
LOVE THE EXPRESIONS YOU GIVE THEM
I like when people picture her actually make her make him bow and generally using nature to her favour.
CALYPSO IS SOO TOUCHY TO ODY HERE AND IT MAKES ME LOATHE HER EVEN MORE DESPITE HER SITUATION
GOD EVERYONE IS SO GREY
