Hey all, thanks for the engagement on this video! With it being my first I'm super happy to see 1k views in the first 20 days!
Correction: Something that I didn't catch until I uploaded was me incorrectly referring to *Nigerian Jollof* as Jamaican. A regretable script mistake I meant to correct, then completely overlooked.
I am new to this so I'll be making quite a few more mistakes down the road I'm sure. Thanks for being here!
It’s Sad How This Series Had No Growth, Just Take Little Things From The Past & Make It A Series Like “Crank Dat Dance & Tyler Perry” I Expected More From This Show 🤷🏽♂️
I like that Glover isn't spoon feeding the audience how they should feel about things or what they should think, he's presenting a complex world that can't be easily judged.
It's never spoon fed people how to think and feel, it took what black people think and feel and put it into a show
This show needs to go back to Atlanta lol
@Bruce mcKutchen ha that's the most ignorantly racist reaction I've heard about the show. You're not alone though and it's going to be entertaining seeing the rest of you snowflakes lose it over Black artists expressing their expriences honestly and unbound by thin-skinned hipsters. Choke on that spoon.
Stop making excuses for a grown man 🤡
@Bruce mcKutchen that’s what you took from it? It’s racist?
S1: They were at the bottom struggling
S2: They were coming up and struggled as they had leave certain things behind
S3: They’re at the peak but they need to understand their new environment and how people move at this stage
This just my own personal take on how Atlanta progressed
How would you say Season 4 ends up? I'm almost done with it
@@devonmunn5728 S4: They're at the top and have been for enough time to be comfortable. Now everyone's looking to switch it up in their own way.
Thats my take.
It's about Paper Boi's Coming up or his roll out as an artist but everyone is on their journey.
Season three feels disturbing and from time to time almost like a horror movie without any actual horror but still has the wierd athmosphere and humor it always had.
As a younger viewer and also for the more unknowing or unaware watchers it always feels like anything could happen, and you never know what’s gonna happen in 20 seconds, 2 minutes or in the next episode.
A perfect season for a perfect show.
I just purchased the season and it's very disturbing as I'm a black man living in Metro Atlanta.I just want everyone to be happy and at peace, but I understand this show entertainment as is everything on T.V.
Yeah there was many moments when I thought it was seasons of black mirror
Visually its very creepy but the plots are so boring on season 3 tbh and sometimes dont make sense
@@burdrchitect1680 I like Season 3, but the final Episode of Season 1 when Earn is walking to his storage Locker and he starts listening to 'Elevators' man it his me big time, he captured that moment so well to the perfect soundtrack.
I was hoping to have more moments like that, when Earn has a break through and makes the right choice where there is a moments reprieve for his character and he is more grounded.
Ironically in that moment he played the lyrics 'I've got more fans than the average man but not enough loot to last me, to the end of the week I live by the beat like you live to cheque to cheque' like Earns living on the bones of his arse trying to make it in the music industry.
as a black american from atlanta who lived in paris for 5 years, season 3 definitely hit different for me. so many things in this season were accurately depicted.
do they eat hands is Paris?
@@dhonun2416 not that i know of. who knows what happens behind the scenes though

This was easily my favorite season… I truly cannot understand why people dislike it other than mabye the stand alone episodes breaking up the main story. Truly a masterpiece
I think they’re too hooked to the family storyline with Earl Van and Lottie lol, it kinda drifts down over the seasons
If you cannot understand why people dislike this season or aren’t to happy/satisfied with it, you just aren’t a fan. It’s one thing to not agree with some fans but if you can’t understand their sentiment, you flat out just not a fan. It’s very easy to understand why some didn’t like this season as much as previous
@@hartfantom bro, don't try to be a damn spokesperson for the fans. you're just a regular person just like me and them
I didn't like it when it first came out and when I was waiting for a new episode every week, and it is still my least favorite season of the show but after rewatching every episode back to back without having to wait, I enjoyed season 3 a lot more, and I enjoy it even more now after learning about some stuff in this video. I still think s1,2 and 4 are superior though.
Honestly I really enjoyed the anthology episodes and wasn't that into the main cast ones since they felt kind of lacking, except for Van's because I liked how they dealt with the mental health element. S3 really made me feel like Glover should have done that Twilight Zone reboot because I feel he nailed the atmosphere and storytelling, and I'm hoping he does something similar in the future.
That's a really good point, I would've loved to see him do Twilight Zone. I haven't seen any of the Jordan Peele episodes though, maybe I should do that.
@@MitraKesava please do, it is vastly underrated
Glover and the twilight zone is like Tim Burton and the Addams family. Weird comparison but it's two things that go together and elevate each other
@@winstonrathey1461 The new twilight zone is pretty bad tbh. It lacked subtlety, and the twilight zone-y aspects weren’t inventive or memorable. It really wasn’t thought-provoking either, mainly because it picked topics that are discussed in a million other forms of media already (e.g. doing an episode on racist cops isn’t too impactful considering I can see actual, REAL LIFE racist cops on the news every day doing messed up things).
On the other hand, a topic like reparations hasn’t really been depicted before. Sure, it’s talked about and debated on TV once in awhile, but I don’t know of any visual depictions of it or narratives/stories that center around it. That’s why the episode about it in Atlanta works so well. It’s more cutting edge and memorable than whatever the new twilight zone attempted to do.
sorry but if you don’t like the main cast episodes, you’re missing out on so much. the point is that there isn’t supposed to be a plot, but to explore what happens in their world and their relationships with each other. it’s funny, interesting, etc
i love how this season blends social commentary & afro surrealism definitely my favorite film style by far! this was nice, i like it here.
My thoughts exactly. Thanks for the nice words, I will work to cultivate something worth being a part of.
@@MitraKesavai think its always have been
I have LOVED this season through and through! It gives me Black Mirror vibes - another show that I LOVE!
I miss the old Atlanta honestly. This season was fantastic but he really could have just created a new show and 100% gotten greenlit if he wanted to do an anthology series about the black experience. I just don't see why they put it under the atlanta title and didnt have a single episode feature the title card at all. It wasn't Atlanta. Was an amazing show and a work of art though.
Just imagine continuing the show he started. He clearly couldn't imagine it lol.
@@thereisonlycis3566 i'm hoping s4 goes back to those roots.
@@N0va me too.
People were waiting for atlanta for 4 years so anything attached to Atlanta would've instantly become classic.
@@johnindigo5477 Exactly though there were good episodes I consider the season a disappointment.
As a black man... I have had dreams like that!
When u see messed up stories sometimes they work their way into your dreams.
Just a way of coping with crazies in the world.
Happy the actors could express that on screen.
Never heard of this show thanks 😁👍🏿
This season’s my favorite tbh. Donald Glover said he wanted the show to be like Twin Peaks in terms of pacing and magic realism and this season perfectly captures that compared to the past two. Feels true-to-form rather than disconnected imo. I feel like ppl are disappointed by it bc they got used to the pacing and more in your face surrealism in season’s 1 and 2 but that’s jus because the writer’s hadn’t yet nailed down exactly what they were trying to do until now.
I personally loved this season. It’s the most uncomfortable so far and that is why I watch the show.
This.
Just you breaking down this season so well, you get my sub!
I love these types of videos and for your first one I can tell you that you do them very well, can't wait to see what more you have to offer. Wish you all the best in ur UA-cam journey
5:00 you hit it right on the head, that was literally the thesis of the entire show. I think what makes season 3 so different is it focuses on white people
Alot people forget glovers goal for Atlanta was to show actual black people how we really are. I think now he's trying to do that more with white America, which is why everyone hates it lol
Either way I loved this especially how you used so many references, I think you won a subscriber
But the thing is, its not a critical look on white people, its a shallow critique.
@@craigj.7035 you think so?
@@craigj.7035 it is a critical look
@@craigj.7035 i would say its a mixed bag of both
Lmao hell no that wasnt Donald glovers goal. U people are really fucked in the head then.
For me the differences between Season 1 and 2 are noticeable but the difference between Season 2 and 3 are drastic. I really enjoyed Season 3 cuz it was the 1st time I watched Atlanta with my mom. As I tried to explain the show's dynamic and normal flow the show kept throwing us curveballs and that was really cool. It kept me from being able to predict or see the ending coming and it was refreshing to just be like dafuq just happened?! Are they eating that?! Did she really just do that?! All in all it was just a different vibe this go round and for my taste thats a wonderful thing.
I loved this season and you did a good job capturing the essence of it in this video!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. I certainly tried, but I know I could've done better.
Here's a new hot take on Sesson 3. It hits different because it's an Addendum to Season 2. It takes the bizarre of season 1 and expands on it as well. It goes into Afro Surrealism.
One UA-camr stated that the characters know something is wrong. Its further emphasized by the first scene of the season with the black man something doesn't seem right.
Think of the beginning of each season is the start of a thesis and the end is a "Well, what have we learned?" Season 3 ends in a bizarre sour note taking its own formula and turning it on its head. But you can say "Rich Wigga Poor Wigga" can be the "What have we learned." Moment with Aaron literally giving us the audience a glance. To wrap up the season. But at the same time it erupts Van's character as an addendum to "Helen" and "Champaign Papi." We also have to realize that some of these anthologies weren't all dreams. They happened. It leaves the question "What state will Georgia be in when they return?" Remember that this world is different where Donald Glover exists as a seperate entity than Earn, Justin Bieber is black, Michael Vick, races people outside of clubs as a hustle, and invisible cars exist.
Most importantly season 3 is Wish fulfillment.
Really well done, and nice to know I''m not alone in my love for this show and this season.Completely caught me off guard. So deep and so beautiful. Liked and subscribed.
I’m happy ppl like u exist.. gives me hope ✊🏾
Aww thanks! Appreciate the comment.
I was looking for a video of this season and man, I found this and it was a really good one. Loved it!
This season is my favourite and I’m suprised that’s an unpopular opinion. The anthology break was refreshing and bold
Those episodes were dumb af lmao. The one w the white guy having to pay the lady out of every paycheck was so ridiculous and the themes didn’t make sense

Superb video. Impressive since you're new. Keep making Atlanta stuff if possible, it's my favourite show out rn.
Great video essay, thank you. I loved this season as well for how it took big creative risks and dug into topics that need to be discussed. 👀Could you do an analysis of seasons 1 and 2?
I can certainly try lol. Season 2 is a pure piece of art for me so I'd have to really think about how I'd want to approach it. My next few videos are going to stray around some topics adjacent to traditional media analysis such as internet culture (which is my next video). So it might take me a little while before I get back to an Atlanta video but it will definitely happen.
Loved it! The sinterclaus episode definitely taught me something, and that New Jazz episode was great.
Nice start, I look forward to your future content.
Thanks! I’m working on it!
Great essay on ATLANTA this was a phenomenal season to touch base on social economic different, awareness, diversity, ignorance everything Donald put into this season was gold Hes an "Allstar"
Completely agree!
Love it glad u did this I tried explaining to my gf about the topics of episodes as we watched them and it basically fell on death ears but this will help educate much appreciated
Outstanding video recap! Loved this.
Great video man! All the best on UA-cam
Thank You for this bro. I'll watch this show now. I've seen about 5 episodes all together. This is genius 💎
Damn, as far as a comment goes I can really appreciate the care and time you put into you videos, glad I came across it. looking forward to what you got in store for the future!
Be well
Thank you! I actually made quite a few mistakes and my editing could use a lot of work imo but I appreciate the kind words. My goal is to continuously work to fix the mistakes of my previous work for my next piece for consistent improvement.
Great job, great video. Keep up the good work. I actually don't have too much feedback because the only thing that could be improved is the technical quality which is low due to the fact that you are new to this. But this isn't a necessary improvement, this video is already better than 90% of video essays I see. You could have extended this honestly and made it like 2 hours long and I would definitely have watched the whole thing. Keep doing what you're doing!
Bro you're amazing at this! Keep it up! I really enjoyed the video!
Thanks that’s very kind. I made some mistakes and have a lot to improve on but I hope I can offer something to the film essay commentary space.
good video man! good luck with this youtube thing!
I honestly was a lil turned off by season 3. I recognized that there was a deeper meaning and a connected theme but I just couldn't figure out. Your breakdown has been an amazing help and I'm going to rewatch it now 🤝
Good format! Well done!
great video!! i loved this season so much
Great Video and I love season 3 and excited to see how season 4 will be
Thank you! I'm very interested to see the direction season 4 takes. I do understand where some of the people that didn't enjoy it as much are coming from although I'm inclined to disagree. I think seeing how DG and the crew choose to wrap up the series will be the signifier for how much staying power we can expect to see from it.
Great start, keep it up brew!
Thanks, will do!
Great video so far, also the background on the lake story is literally the real story of Lake Lanier
This breakdown is on point. So much so I am going to re -watch season 3
Very much appreciated! Let me know what you catch on the rewatch.
I think we saw a lot of progression in the characters of the show. We see their friendships evolve without losing loyalty. It exposes the come up and bribing of selling out to the culture in the journey of a rapper and his/her friends. This has happened to so many rappers. This ser toies exposes everything people turn a blind eye to
This was an excellent take on atlanta... I appreciate you doing this video.
Thank you so much for the feedback! That means a lot, I was pretty nervous putting it out and I’ve looked at it so much that all I see is the mistakes now 😅
Damn this was good. Great writing and hittin' the edit marks. I feel like you had a copy of the Show Bible. Subscribed.
Wow. That's very kind of you to say. This was my first attempt at a video essay for UA-cam however I did attend film school for a year about a decade ago so I understood the basics of what I was trying to do. It took a lot of research and using other peoples sources to put it together so I only collected stuff together. Thanks for subscribing!
I don’t know if you missed it, but there is a post credit scene in the final episode that ties the main storyline together with the “black mirror-esque” episodes. It blew my mind.
Explain
perfectly put, looking forward to more!!!
we got healthy doses of surrealism throughout, but mostly just a couple episodes focused on it. these season it's like over half the season is focused on it. can't wait to see what your take is on all this
I enjoyed your commentary on this and take.
Wow thank you that means so much as this is the first video essay I’ve ever made!
Watching that woman fight back tears broke my heart… Thinking you’re protecting the children all to find out the opposite HAS to be a gut punch

I hope this doesn't get buried in your half a thousand comments, and I know I'm just one person, but I thought your analysis on Atlanta was brilliant and with Mr morale getting closer and closer to becoming possibly my favorite Kendrick album I would love to hear your thoughts on it so yes PLEASE DO IT
I didn't know some of the episodes are based on true stories. even though season3 has less narrative about paperboy, I really enjoyed how they brought various thoughts into visualized episodes. some are bit gross, intensive but deep and intersting at the same time. I have a respect to the writers and producers. can't wait to watch the next season! and by the way thanks for your recap!!

i loved it. It was so Atlanta. You never know what to expect and I love that
Nice to see you trying video essays, this is a great job for a first attempt! I would look into adjusting your mic settings as the audio got a little muddy at times, also certain sentences could've been annunciated better. Still really good job for a first try. Keep going!

I love the parallels to real life events
Ha! Love that you used Tony on his horse in the living room from _The Sopranos'_ "Test Dream" for the Surrealism tag... I loved the third season of _Atlanta,_ as well (except for the last episode, unfortunately 😕)!
As a light-skinned Arab-American, who is sometimes considered "white" and sometimes considered a racial slur, I couldn't agree more with this season's "thesis statement", as you properly named it. It's what I've thought so often, but never stated so well!

I was born in Gainesville GA. Grew up skiing and swimming in that lake. In 5th grade a classmate (a black boy named Ramon) drowned. The next year everybody got swimming lessons. I didn't know about the displacement until this.
This was probably my favourite season
The problem in Surrealist works is that once you go there, there is no turning back, its almost like "It Was All A Dream" trope. Did that happen or was just another surrealist bit? What is the point in that on the story?
I can certainly see that argument. I still think there was an intended meaning behind the surrealist moments, but that could be completely misguided. Thanks for sharing your opinion on my video!
@@MitraKesava The problem is that's the entire season. They basically threw away everything established for an art piece.
Not really. They had a healthy balance of realism and surrealism. If u didnt like it thats fine.
