How to Give a Sh*t About Women's Basketball, with Comedian and Super-Fan Morgan Murphy | PTFO

  • It's one of the greatest TV shows in America right now: The Caitlin Clark effect of being David and Goliath at the same time. Angel Reese's ability to provoke and emote. The wisdom and 4D chess of Dawn Staley. And yet, for a TV writer and stand-up comic who's been evangelizing the women's game for decades, this season has been like showing a friend The Sopranos for the first time. Having witnessed March Madness and in anticipation of next week's WNBA Draft, Morgan Murphy and Pablo determine that the ensuing hot takes from sports media's "empire of garbage" may signal that normalization is here to stay.

As a standup, Morgan Murphy's special is probably the best one on Netflix of the last 10 years.

One of the best episodes of Finds Out, and that is saying something because Pablo's show is great.

This right here at 8:00 also perfectly describes the Star Wars toxic a-holes.

As a Star Wars fan that really dislikes the sequels but then saw the toxic behavior regarding the sequels both by fans and the creators…yeah.

Feel like more eyes would be on the WNBA if Morgan were somehow the voice of the league

I have watched a lot of WNBA and have kept up pretty closely with the league for the last 12 years since I was 13. I disagree with Morgan entirely. The women in the league/ past stars making it out like Clark is going to struggle and need a few years to get used to the next level are being jealous and hoping that will be the case. Her game will translate 1-1 as the game is built around shooting anyways and she can shoot and drive off her shot gravity as well as anyone in the league rn

seems like the athletes who came before her are just bitter and jealous that they didn't get the level of attention she does.... instead of being happy for her and happy for the future of their sport, they sit around and find ways to discredit her and cut her down to the public so they can feel better about their own level of national popularity (or lack thereof)
it's actually pretty sad to see

Women should be able to be upset at each other, be competitive, uplift, and put down. These women are competitive. Sue and Diana also want to point out to new fans that the WNBA has been competitive and have always been. And college is a different league.
If this were the 90's when the league first started or if Caitlin was the first woman to play in the NBA, then yeah, hopefully they'd uplift her. But this isn't that. It's another draft. She has to earn her stripes.

Honestly, the way to bring the hype I feel is to stop having exclusively women’s basketball and men’s basketball. How on earth is it “not discriminatory, not sexist” if we decide “ok separate gender leagues.” What about all that talk of “oh we can’t use science to justify gender differences, we are all the same if we work hard.” Suddenly that changes when we get older, without ever being explained.

Taurasi is great...but she needs to retire. Give younger players a shot especially if the WNBA continues to limit roster spots.

    The whiny little karen's resume:
    2023: 9 for 23 in a fifteen point loss
2024: 10 for 29 in a twelve point loss (including 5 for 20 down the stretch)

"if you know Caitlyn Clark but not Maya Moore, that's telling on yourself"
give me a break lol it's cool that womens sports are getting more attention, but drop this righteousness act where you shame people who started paying attention now for not *also* knowing the full history of every womens athlete who came before her... no offense but get over yourself lol i can't tell if she wants the popularity to grow or if she just wants to gatekeep and act like new fans aren't allowed to show interest
