If you're going to sit on top of the riser with all of your weight, this will severely compress the tennis balls, thus decreasing the noise eating effect. I would recommend cutting the area of the board around the drum stool to prevent this from happening (raise the stool a couple of inches to compensate for the change in height of your kit). You can still cover this gap with a mat and sit on top of that, it'll likely look neater that way
Thanks for putting this out there--I can play drums in my apartment again and for a fraction of what I thought I'd be spending! I set it up and tested it with my neighbor--they said my walking over to the drum set was more noticeable than the actual playing! I still plan on adding a rubber mat under the carpet on the riser--which is made up of Flor tiles that actually already have some rubber on the bottom--just to make it a little more robust, but so far, so good.
This is amazing, I was looking at the hundreds of dollars the noise eaters would cost, plus i'd have to wait for them to get shipped, found this video, and now an hour later my downstairs neighbor says he can barely hear anything even if I really stomp the bass and hi-hat. I used a couple spare pieces of wood and about 8 tennis balls to make a platform that just fits under the drums (not enough wood or tennis balls or space to fit under chair) and while it's a little bit wobbly it does the job.
As stated by other users, maybe the fact that youre only holding the kits weight (and whatever force you imprint on your hihat and kick pedal with your legs) without the drummers, makes this cheap version work almost as good as the full version of the tennis riser. Looking forward to build mine. By the way, did you use additional rubber pads or just the tennis balls, wood and carpet?
How did it work? Having the same problem with my keyboard (why I’m here), after my neighbor called the police on me, only to be confused, having to figure out what he was hearing, showed the police and they were confused too. Honestly, not afraid of the police. They’ll just think the guys crazy again. I just don’t want to have to deal with him and have my time wasted again.
I’ve done this platform and I did the mistake of not checking with my neighbour before to see if it work, so I got a massive complaint from my landlord about the noise from the key pedal, I would say it reduce The sound by 75% so I know I’m getting closer of not disturbing my neighbour. So I’ve just ordered the Roland NE-10 noise eater, With Roland’s claims of reducing 75% of the noise or vibration you should do the job now on the kick pedal.
Great guide! I bought two Roland Noise eaters for about 140$ each for my double pedals but they did not help very much considering their price! But it'll try to build this so i have this and the noise eaters, that should prevent the sound do implantat downstairs.'
The ball riser is not the best solution, since it makes the kit wobbling. There is a better solution for e-drums and a-drums. I will make a video soon.
hey, awesome video. just wondering, my main 'problem' is my parents. they hate the noise of the bass drum and because i play metal there is alot of it. will this get rid of mostly all the vibrations and some of the noise? thanks :)
drummingxtreme You will get rid of the vibrations. The best is to add a second isolation like this: ua-cam.com/video/4y_ShSFA5q4/v-deo.html You should also go for a silent beater like this: www.drum-tec.de/drumtec-soundabsorbingbeater-p-1574.html?language=en
Thank you very much for the video! I made one for me and it works well to decrease the vibrations. But my biggest problem is the ambience sound which made by the sticks when hit on the cymbals or rubber pads. It is heard by downstair neighboors. Do you suggest any idea for that? My solution is to use 2,3mm epdm heavy barrier (3kg/m2 ) and 6mm rubber plates together on floor to block the ambience noise. What dou you think? Thanks again.
I would use quiet pads that do not produce as much sound. Quiet mesh heads and quiet cymbals. You could also dampen your room with noise absorption foam. This foam is not expensive and reduces the noise a bit.
Thanks for you suggestion. What do you think with this: vicfirth.com/products/accessories/practice-pads/universal-practice-tips/ I think they can decrease the sound level of wood sticks on rubber pads and cymbals. And also this product could be helpful: www.tama.com/eu/products/accessories/TCP20.html
I tried two of them. Result: nothing changed! Guys if you think that theese rubber tips decrease the volume of stick sounds don't buy them.. The sound still the same level just smoother. Finally I choose the last idea of mine and bought Promark B600 nylon brush pair. From the drum modeule increase the sensitivity levels of all pads and cymbals. Now it is not similar using of drum sticks but no sound is made, that's good for me. Even more i choose the bop or jazz kit from the module than feel more realistic.. Now looking for a silent kick pedal like Yamaha KU100 or HH65 to use the kicks quiet. E-drums dont sounds like aquistics but ambient noise is still a big proplem who lives in apartment! Hope new ideas will share here :)
Great video, I just made this using a MDF 19mm board, but on my hard floor I notice some low frequency resonance from the kick. Would you recommend me to place anything between the MDF board and the floor or should I just assume that this can only be heard in my room? Thanks :)
Great video! I have one question though: is it as good as the "2 wooden plates + full tennis balls sandwich" method? Or maybe almost as good? Because I don't have any gear and I rather buy the least possible. Thanks.
Would it be possible to create your own "noise eater" using this method? Instead of using an entire wooden platform, just use a piece of wood large enough for the pedal and kick pad? Just a thought, since in the video, it says the only negative side is the size of the plate. you would only need to figure out a way to keep the wood from sliding off the tennis balls
Great video ! Thank you ! I'll try it soon ! With 100 euros the unit, it's just a joke from Roland even if we buy 1 or 2 for the different pedals. Why don't they just make a full anti noise carpet ?...at 100 euros i would have bought it...Thanks again for the tip !
Thanks! Yes, it's ridiculous. If I would have to buy noise eaters for my kit, I would need 3 NE-10 boards and 7 NE-1's. Would cost me around 450 euro. For pieces out of rubber and plastic. The only advantage is their size.
Roland needs to keep up its facade of being elite and hi-tier in order to make it seem more "reasonable" to buy a glorified set of trigger pads and a low-grade computer for $6000-10000. They are the kings of ripoffs in the drumming world.
I did a video about comparing all pads. The PDX-100 is the winner:) I think it is the best one, considering the price, size and the double mounting system.
Don't the tennisball move around when you play drums? I can imagine when you sit on the drumthrone, the weight is higher on the tennisball underneath the chair, then it is on the corners of the wood.. So this might lead to the wooden plate not be level anymore? What is your experience on that?
Hi, I placed more tennis balls underneath the stool than on the corners. They compress a bit but not to much. The plate and balls are not moving at all. The amount of tennis balls depends on the weight of the kit/gear and the persons weight. The whole constriction is shaking a bit while playing, but not enough to trigger any pads accidentally.
Another way is to just raise the height of your drum throne. This is only an option if you haven't got it on max height already of course and have it placed beside the raiser so you're not sitting on the raiser itself. Also, by not having your throne on top of the raiser allows you to make a shallower raiser that could be a good thing for people with limited space or if you have to transport the raiser at some point.
Their are both working, but the one with entire balls need a wooden board with holes. You need a special saw/drill to make them. I thought it is easier to cut the tennis balls than drilling holes. But like I said, both systems are working.
I actually worked:) thanks. I have a question: Between a tennis ball riser and the Roland NE-10 noise eaters, which one allows more vibrations to go to the neighbours below? And which one gives you more stability when playing?
I wish I knew that before spending so much time and money around my drum riser. Tennis balls, foam, two layers of wood, Roland drum mat, rubber mats, yoga mats...geez. And in the end, everything (rack, pads) shakes when using kick or hi-hat pedals. If you add more tennis balls to improve stability, the vibrations to the lower floor grow. Sometimes I feel like throwing everything away and go for something like the Roland NE-10 and forget about it. Its annoying to play drums and think at any moment some neighbour will knock on your door complaining (because it happened with half tennis balls and one layer of MDF + mats). Cheers! Thanks!
well.. i´ll buy the td 25k (without v) and i am very confuse with the kick pedal, i wrote you on another video about what beater you recomended for the less noise posible with the KD-9 x, so, i need a good combo with the NE 9 and the best beater, if you could help me to do the less noise posible i will be very greatful i gonna delete my last question in the other video thank you so much
If you really want to avoid bass drum noise, you'd go for a KT-10. The feel is not as good, but it is really quiet. A KD-120 is also not bad. The KD-9 is still kind of noisy.
+Vdrum Tips really, i prefeer use the kd9, i can do some noise but i need the less with this one. i think i will follow your 1st recommendation, k9 + ne 10 + r drums soft beater! i think this is the less noise configuration for the k9, thank you for your videos and sorry for over explaining, but when you will pay a lot of money you need to know all of everything! Thank you again!
Hi! Many thanks for the review! Under the legs I would suggest not put plastic washers and silicone anti-vibration pads for washing machines, which will be the best one ;0))
Marcel Price Yes, I put antivibration supports under the legs of the frame (drum-stand), bass drum, pedal vk.com/albums10412416?z=photo10412416_314036132%2Fphotos10412416
Marcel Price About $ 10 per set, but I think that in Russia the price - much exaggerated ;0) mallstreet.ru/image/for-washing-machines-zool-anti-vibration-supports-for-washing-machines-white-zl-350-b1-52960.jpg
Maxmainstrim Thank you very much for the link:) We'll see if i can find them in a hardware store. I checked out your pics. You play a strange kit there with Roland triggers. What is it? :)
I own a 2box and I have it over a surface of like 1" of rubber and 2-3 mats but it still makes noise. Since I live in the top of my building my problem is the vibration transmited way down. Do you think this could reduce it enough for me? I guess for me this one is better than the pedals stands since the 2box has the kick pad in the rack and that wouldn't work without isolating the whole structure. I've seen some videos using 2 layers and the whole tennis ball, What do you think about this? Thanks
Hi, I am building a new podest at the moment with a different technology but way more effective. I would suggest you to wait until I release this video before building anything.
Hey dude. I made a kick test with a piece of wood and 4 balls stucked in holes and the difference is really big in terms of vibration of the kick (you could even jump over it and there was no vibration in any part of the flat). It broke down with too much weight so if you're thinking in building something similar you've got to think well about the gaps between balls; even more if your kit is heavy as mine. Anyway I'd wait untill the new video is uploaded before starting building nothing and maybe we can have a better solution. Keep it rocking! By the way, do you know when you'll approximately have it?
Hi, yes totally right. The platform has to be very stable. My new podest is as strong as a rock. I am using 24mm MDF sheets, there will be no bending and the "pillars" are a special industry isolation foam, made for my kits specific weight. I am about to build it now. Just missing the carpet at the moment. It will hopefully be released before christmas. I would suggest you to wait for this, since it is the proper way of building a platform.
Thanks for the video! It is the easier riser I have seen so far. I have a neighbour who complains everytime I play drums. Can anyone confirm that with this riser neighbours around stop hearing the drum bass beats??
Hi Javier, this device helps to reduce the noise. But you can still hear something. It also depends on your kick drum. If you have a neighbor like this, you will probably need something totally different. Do you know the KT-10 ?
Marcel Price I didn't know it, the Roland KT-10 looks like a good idea, thanks!. In regard to your video, maybe it will reduce more noise if you place the player's stool out of the noise reducer. I read that the weight of the player compresses the tennis balls and jeopardizes the proper aborption of the beats.
Javier VS I never tried the kt-10 myself, but I think it is the best and quietest solution. You are right with the stool. Therefore I placed more tennis balls underneath the stool. I am already working on a new construction which separates the kick pads/pedal part from the rest. it is also made out of tennis balls, but i am not finished yet. It is really hard to find a good solution for a double pedal and hi hat stand.
Marcel Price I am looking forward to see your new construction! To separated the kick pad from the rest of the drums looks like a wise idea. Is it the hi-hat stand really a big problema when it comes to ground vibes?
+hobazzz This construction reduces noise, it does not eliminate it completely. The only way to solve your problem is buying a quieter kick pad. What pad do you have?
You really don't need to go through all this expense and trouble. I got 1" rubber interlocking mats for home gyms from Xspec on Amazon. Downstairs neighbor says 0 vibrations now. 12x 2x2ft squares for $100
@@mickyrhythmvendor Yes, it did help a lot, but not to a point where I could play hard after 11:00 pm. I ended up finding a used roland one really cheap, it does the same thing, but look nicer. I gave the DIY to a friend who is a pro drummer that also plays e-drums in an apartment and he was happy with it!
The only solution that worked to me was to hang the drum stage from the ceiling, since my neighbor downstairs is a psycho. I have literaly no vibration on the floor. Although the video is in portuguese, it can be understood by the context: ua-cam.com/video/lNij49bAIDM/v-deo.html
You can still cover this gap with a mat and sit on top of that, it'll likely look neater that way
+Silvio Great idea, that would make sense!
Thanks for putting this out there--I can play drums in my apartment again and for a fraction of what I thought I'd be spending! Great, exactly what i needed! you have yourself a new subscriber!
This is very helpful! I am thinking about using both the Roland noise eaters for kick/hi-hat and your solution for the rest of my drum kit.
Yes, the Roland Noise Eaters are a very good solution.
Finally a good video on noise reduction for ekits. Nice french accent too. :)
Thanks Dominic, the accent is supposed to be german:)
Good video
Thanks:)
I'm going to try this for my weighted digital piano, hold this works. Thank you.
How did it work? Wait with building this. It is not the best solution either. I am building a professional podest soon, that really helps.
Very useful! Thanks for sharing this!!!
Great video! Would this work with an acoustic set? I would assume the answer is yes but still wondering, thanks
The ball riser is not the best solution, since it makes the kit wobbling. There is a better solution for e-drums and a-drums. I will make a video soon.
Thank you! Subscribed =)
What is that little box on the right of the Console, under the High Hat ??

I don't understand sorry. Can you send me a link where I can see this method?
I think it makes no difference. Both methods work.

hi did you build the half tennis ball riser?....how was it?... cheers .

More vids please do a review on the Pdx100
I did a video about comparing all pads. The PDX-100 is the winner:) I think it is the best one, considering the price, size and the double mounting system.
I know but do a vid on how you have all those trigger pads on the module you have I thought only the td 30 could do that
Don't the tennisball move around when you play drums?

Hi, I have a question for you.
I saw other platform projects using entire-intact tennis ball.
Do you know which solution works better?
Their are both working, but the one with entire balls need a wooden board with holes. You need a special saw/drill to make them. I thought it is easier to cut the tennis balls than drilling holes. But like I said, both systems are working.
Thanks for idea
Tanks a lot
Amazing job
A link for the tennisballs pelase.
Great video by the way.
+Red Agstreat Bought them in a shop, no link, sorry:( Just search some with a rubber core.
+Vdrum Tips okay. How about the size of the Plywood? Xcm x Zcm x Ycm
In my Case 1,40m x 1,80m x 22mm. But this depend on the kit.
How do you prevent the vibrations of the platform climb the rack and trigger the cymbals? (when using the kick pedal)
+Filipe Silva With the XTalk and Treshold Setting in the module.
+Vdrum Tips Oh thanks! I'll try it out:)
I actually worked:) thanks. I have a question: Between a tennis ball riser and the Roland NE-10 noise eaters, which one allows more vibrations to go to the neighbours below? And which one gives you more stability when playing?
The NE-10 is definitely the better choice. But it is expensive.
I wish I knew that before spending so much time and money around my drum riser. Tennis balls, foam, two layers of wood, Roland drum mat, rubber mats, yoga mats...geez. And in the end, everything (rack, pads) shakes when using kick or hi-hat pedals. If you add more tennis balls to improve stability, the vibrations to the lower floor grow. hi, i need your opinion about the NE-10 only on the kick and hi hat, does it really work?

why you just dont buy an evamat or ruber sponge mat, it cost more cheap and very efective, also had good loking aesthetic
The eva mat does absolutely nothing compared with the riser... I've tried them both, and the difference is huge!

I have a small e-kit mounted on one tom stand, would you recommend 3 small platforms for each leg or one big square on to cover all?
i did exactly like the video but my neighbor still complaining:( ... i need help plz, is there anything i could do to eliminate the bass drum noise ?
+hobazzz This construction reduces noise, it does not eliminate it completely. The only way to solve your problem is buying a quieter kick pad. What pad do you have?
+Vdrum Tips thanks for responding.. i have the KD-9 of the TD-11KV
The KD-9 is not really quiet. I recommend a KT-10, since you seem to have big trouble with your neighbours.
+hobazzz I found Triggera Krigg trigger to be the best solution to eliminate the noise from the bass drum pad. It installs on any acoustic drum pedal.

You really don't need to go through all this expense and trouble. I got 1" rubber interlocking mats for home gyms from Xspec on Amazon. Downstairs neighbor says 0 vibrations now. 12x 2x2ft squares for $100
Rubbish
And the dw kick
I’ve made one for my kick drum pedal, why do both pedals need to be connected? I would think it wouldn’t be necessary...

Did that help to reduce the sound of the kick pedal?
@@mickyrhythmvendor Yes, it did help a lot, but not to a point where I could play hard after 11:00 pm. I ended up finding a used roland one really cheap, it does the same thing, but look nicer. I gave the DIY to a friend who is a pro drummer that also plays e-drums in an apartment and he was happy with it!
Why not use a 1" thick rubber horse stall mat? I put these under my treadmills for the same reason. No construction required.
Fine if it works.

DEUTSCHLAND, LAND OF THE DEUTSCHE!
Why do we need to be quiet?
