Vlogging with EDS: The Best Week of my Life | Week 81

- I don’t even know where to start when writing a description here. I am still processing this week and am sure I will be for a while. There are experiences in life that change you, and this was definately one of those experiences. This week was spent with so many amazing friends and fellow patients, but it was also full of total strangers who were willing to go out of their way to make things special for us and to educate themselves on a condition that they had previously known nothing about. My heart is full and I am inspired to continue to spread the love. I wish everyone was able to have this experience with me, but I hope that I can share a bit of that joy with you through my video. And I hope also that maybe this video can inspire some of you as well to spread the love within your own communities. I truly believe a seed has been planted and I can’t wait to see what it can grow into. Thank you so much to everyone involved, EDS is very rarely recognized for the all consuming condition that it can be (or at all), so you will never know what it truly meant to be seen.

I legit laughed aloud when you showed yourself in the sun; it’s exactly how I look when I’m forced into the sunlight. I swear I’m a vampire. It’s absolutely amazing to see you so happy!! The photos from the photo shoot were absolutely stunning; you all looked beautiful. I love the concept of the rocks, that’s a beautiful sentiment. The people who put this retreat together for you are incredible. The fact that they thought of so many details like the haircuts and accessibility is just so special. I’m so happy for you to have had that experience! ❤️❤️

I have EDS along with Cranio Cervical Instability and it has been quite the adventure! I found out about it a little over 2 years ago and since then I've been taught a lot about the incredibly strong people who go through this disease. Probably the hardest thing for me was finding out right after I graduated from high school because it put all my plans on hold and forced me to start living a different life. I had surgery to fix the instability in my neck almost 2 years ago and since then I've been recovering and getting used to life. I was so nervous preparing to travel to Dr. Bolognese because I was struggling with doubt and anticipation of what I knew was going to be a very hard couple weeks. But God provided the Ronald Mcdonald House of Long Island which was a blessing beyond words, He provided a family friend who had a trip to that area that same time, He provided a strong church family in New York who prayed for me non stop throughout surgery, and He provided other families who had kids who were struggling who we were able to encourage. It opened a door for my mom to come along side these girls and learn about what they were going through. Actually when I walked into our amazing room at the RM House I was searching for something to make me feel at home and found a book about Clearwater Marine Aquarium which is a aquarium in Florida that I love God definitely kept me at ease throughout. I also over the years of living at home without a job God has given me a love for helping my mom around the house with dishes and cleaning. I feel very grateful to be part of the EDS community and I know He will use this for His glory as He's obviously using your story.

Oh, Christina, the smile on your face was just so amazing to see. You are incredibly inspiring. I am so happy that you had the opportunity to have this experience with such loving and caring friends and their amazing moms. Remeber that you left that guilt behind, don't let it back in. There is so much support there and we have wonderful members who will join you in making EDS known and who will pray for you and give you support one crochet square at a time. We love you! What an incredible week! I’m so happy for you getting to relax and have fun and be pampered and even get in the sea for a swim!!!i bet you feel like a new person after this week and the R2-O2!! You deserved and needed this after those surgeries and your mom needed some time with other moms too. I was just diagnosed with EDS a couple of weeks ago, mostly I feel angry I have been saying all these symptoms since I was a child and I was just diagnosed but the community has been so lovely to me and having my blog and you tube channel to vent has really helped. So glad you had a good week so happy and proud of you! Xx
Miss Adventure because of folks like all of you vlogging and posting I have finally gotten help that really helps after 50 years of faking it because no one got my complaints so I stopped telling about most of it. It's not eds but much like it a collagen diseases with other autoimmune stuff so treating it like what it mimic has improved things and now I have better way of eating that works most days and pt that with the right support I can stand and walk better. Hanging there pray share and keep moving forward. Blessings

The joy on your face was AMAZING when you went swimming!! You’re joy and happiness through out the whole week came through out the video. I wish I was there to do makeup on the photo shoot day, I would’ve been in my element. Everyone looked gorgeous! You looked incredibly beautiful. I loved that they even did haircuts.

Wow - just wow! So glad you and your Mom could share this trip together. :) Totally awesome, and inspirational. Side note: I have been using a cpap for three months now, and being able to get decent oxygen while sleeping has made it possible for me to function soooo much better! As you continue to use your oxygen concentrator, you will notice even more positive changes happening for you. It's incredible what oxygen can do for you. :D Finally, those little bottles of sand were the perfect gift to your friends and helpers. Every time they see that sand, they will remember that special sandy retreat. And of course, your video!

R2o2 is a perfect name. So glad about your vacation ours was a psuedo one forced upon us by my dogs surgery and my mom s death. We celebrated her entrance into Heaven and a bunch of family birthdays so it was bitter sweet. Really nice to see you doing well on the O2. So cool you could travel so far. Nice vacation place. The retreat so far looks great. I am so happy for you I am laughing smiling and crying it is all so nice. Continued prayers and blessings. I used a sand chair on cape cod years ago. I live in The U.K. but have been to the USA many times. I love Vermont a lot and New England generally. I would love to go back one day.

Oh yeah by the way.. i found an amazing elephant skirt. Its long and made of the same comfy material as our pants. Let me know if you want the info for it. I got the black one and it matches my pants perfectly. :) Oh name for your new zebra, Ziggy Stardust.

I had my first knee surgery when I was 9. We went to the beach almost every year with my Aunt and Uncle, and that year was no different. I went with my big clunky knee brace (this was 35 years ago) and crutches. How I managed to get up over the little hill and down to the beach I have no idea! I was determined to get there and into the water. So there I was, with my big brace that was the full length of my leg and crutches, probably in about mid-calf deep, and the sand shifted under my feet. Down I went, face first into the water and sand, swallowing a huge gulp of water. 😂 I couldn't get up by myself, and the others were laughing so hard that they couldn't help right away. I ended up vomiting and I didn't go back in the water again that day. I laugh thinking about it now, but I did NOT think it was funny back then! 😂😂😂

I am so amazed at how far you've come with your mast cell symptoms! To be able to sit in a restaurant surrounded by food smells is incredible considering not too long ago even being rooms away if the smell got in it could set off a reaction. I'm so happy for you to be able to enjoy that time with everyone

I loved what you guys did with the rocks! It reminds me of taschlich! It’s a Jewish tradition where at the new year we go down to the water and say a blessing, we then throw bread in the water which is symbolic of our regrets and wrongdoings of the past year. It’s like a weight coming off your shoulders

I was excited to see you post because this is the first time I get to post that I officially have EDS. I was diagnosed by my Rheumie a while ago but she wanted it confirmed by a geneticist. I was on a waiting list for 17 months to just get an appointment with the Baylor EDS clinic and then two more months and them canceling/rescheduling one time. Finally, I had my appointment and now I have to wait 6-8 weeks to figure out if I have Classical or Hypermobile because I have the symptoms of both (I thought I was going to be straight line Hypermobile but nope - SWERVE). Crazy. I felt that you’d of all people would understand. Now I am to find out if I have any other genetic issues as well plus see a number of specialists. I’m excited and scared.
So... so... happy for you sweetheart ❤ You guys deserve this special treat. I'm so thankful your body was doing a bit better over your vacation too... :-) Yay!!! Love Nicole xoxo

If you tell your oxygen supplier that you travel a lot for medical appointments you should be able to get smaller portable tanks. They'll give you 2 or 3 and those should last until you get home. I agree the concentrator ways a ton, and my rep had to carry it up 3 flights of stairs. Poor guy.

it looks like you had a great time!! we are from North Carolina. what beach was that? the sound of the tree frogs made me laugh. we had so many of them in our yard that we couldn't talk over them they were so loud hahaha. we don't have them in Atlanta like that. when we lived in North Carolina our closest beach was Wrightsville Beach in Wilmington. my mom's house that I lived at when I was a teenager was 3 miles from Carolina Beach. it's pretty there but I didn't like living there, it's nice to visit.

I love this video so much it’s so beautiful. I wanted to know was this part of an organization where POTS patients meet up every year and just have a good time despite the illnesses? I actually wanted to try and find something like that where you just spend a whole week with a whole bunch of patients just like yourself and have a good time make some new friends.
