MattewGame here, thanks for reviewing my level. I'm sorry for not crediting the og game. I love recreating really complex mechanics in gd, but I really struggle with creativity in the past months (I might be burnt out) so I try to recreate what I love about the games I play
Apparently the level creator has gotten death threats for copying another game. One of the things they said in response was "i hate this community." I'm so heartbroken about this. The guy wanted to make a recreation of a game he loved just because it's something he enjoys doing. People are being so vicious towards this guy for simply doing what makes him happy, it's so disheartening.
One neat thing about Quarion is that RobTop actually beat it!! Rob beating a demon level happens like once in a blue moon and for it to not only be a long platformer level but also getting the mythic rating really goes to show how much he liked it
Mythic levels should be rated Legendary and only rated mythic from a vote from the community at the ene of the year. All mythics are then revealed during the annual gd awards
really love how in depth it is to the point of addressing the little details and eggs that make each level unique besides just having the overview only, as kind of like a "what's the mythic factor to this?" amazing job on this video and it's peam

Towerverse is a great level, it’s a shame that people are so focused on the little blue flame behind the difficulty instead of the actual content of the level. It’s one of my personal favorite platformers :)

This might be one of the only levels where i enjoyed building every corner of the level and with the new 2.2 editor and motivation i had i couldnt stop building and it was actually the first time after many years where i didnt care about the rating system and just do what i always wanted to make. Fun fact: You can actually get every coin collectables in practice mode in Next Cab Soon, then replay and beat the level to get the coin without needing to get any collectables in normal mode. This kinda defeats the entire idea behind the coin if you're aware of it.

Super great video, Colon. It was refreshing to see someone giving actual valid criticism for Mythic levels and not hating like a lot of the community unfortunately does. I really do think we should be proud as a community for the incredible levels that have been released this update and shouldn't see them as a bad thing whatsoever. So much drama has been caused by them even though these creators poured their hearts into these levels, and I think we should appreciate that, regardless of what rating they receive. Also, awesome to see some love for Throat Of The World by you. Loved the gameplay and ideas in that one. 🔥🐑
I feel like the main reason BER ZER KER even won was because it felt like NCS the most. It feels like a music video just turned to a GD Level. It even has a visualizer to go with it
I will always have a special place in my heart for Quarion because it got rated while I was playing it and I had no idea so I was one of the first 15 to beat it. Fun times. Edit: 170 likes? Erm what the sigma?

Finally some respect for towerverse, it’s a good level, just people are mad that it got recognized for being good. Same thing happened to zone pirate v, it had lots of boss fights and overall was a good level, but people hated because they didn’t think it met their standards for legendary
Tbh my biggest issue with Towerverse is the glider part and how much of a difficulty spike it is. Like you are set into a certain mood when playing the level, making nice and steady progress and then it just slaps you in the face with the glider mechanic after having spend already quite some time in the level. Atleast thats how I felt when I first played it. I guess this wouldnt be as bad as is, if you wouldnt have to play a platformer level in one sitting...
As someone, who beat commatose, I encourage everyone, who's scared of the lenght or difficulty of the level to at least try it out in practice mode. I usually don't really like longer levels and expected to get annoyed at commantose, but enjoyed every minute of it. The gameplay flows perfectly and really adds to the song in a unique way. With a level this long a single chokepoint can completely ruin the level, but even though some parts are way harder than others, it doesn't feel frustrating and the really easy parts are actually nice to get a break from the harder gameplay. Difficulty wise I should also mention, that since the level is super long, the core gameplay isn't that hard. It's probably pretty accessible even if your hardest is a medium or even easy demon.
Colon's really sticking to his New Year's resolution, and it shows. Especially compared to other videos, where he tried as hard as he could to get his fanbase to turn against or for a level. Good job, Colon. Good job. Also, just wanna highlight 28:50 . I was constantly scared because I thought that I would immediately lose the contest, until eventually I just gave up on trying to win.
Fun fact: In Quarion, you don't have to get all the abilities in order. There are a lot of neat design tricks that let you choose which one you get first.
Idk how Colon does it but he's one of the few youtubers I watch whose videos have like infinite replay value. Every few months I'll go back and rewatch like half the videos

I do think this video demonstrates a problem with the community. We are just too negative. Instead of praising levels for getting a mythic, we put them down because we don’t like certain aspects of the level. Be it the art, or the gameplay. This was especially true with towerverse, the level is good, but it “doesn’t deserve mythic” because “its gameplay/art sucks”. Why not praise it for breaking new grounds and being one of, if not the first full scale game level like it, or comment on parts you did like, or even suggest how to improve a certain part. This problem goes beyond mythic rates as well. Event levels, dailies, and weeklies, all suffer from this issue also. Citadel and Geometry were met with horrible reception because people disliked the gameplay aspect. And instead of praising Subwoofers art or offering suggestions to improve Geometry’s gameplay, people wrote off the levels as bad. I implore anyone reading this to try and look beyond the gameplay of a level, to see its art and creator vision. Maybe leave a constructive comment, or point out a small flaw, and if you truly despise a level, just don’t say anything at all…
This is the kind of reaction we need to good levels, constructive criticism instead of deconstructive toxic hate for a label not even assigned by the creator of the level
My favorite Mythic level so far is probably Throat of the World, it's one of the few platformer levels I've seen that has really good decoration while still feeling like Geometry Dash, and I love how the gameplay is challenging without relying on "advanced tech" like slope boosting, all of the gameplay is extremely fair and accessible.
Never have I thought I would be on Colon's channel even for a bit. (That's insane!!) I'm surprised that Next Cab Soon get so high on the list despite it has a bit of flaws. (I would hope you actually dig into our easter eggs we put in the whole collab lol, btw Astralith and NCS was made by "almost" the same team) Great video about explaining some of aspects on the levels where they did great and where they don't. I can say I agree with 90% of the video here, thanks for pointing it out for the community, it can help a lot on future levels and creators.
When our team made our build in GD Place 2, we almost got to both Partition and Nexus's channels Then it turned out one of our haters blocked the way with a huge wall of invisible spikes, so both Nexus and Partition turned up right before our build My personal build though did appear in Partition's vid... for just 2 seconds
30:54 So glad to see a commatose mention! As a glass beach fan, it's hard for me to imagine a better GD level than this one; if I had a say, commatose would be one of two or three mythics. I hope it inspires more levels with NONGs to be made--I think when creators pick their absolute favorite songs, not limited by what's whitelisted on Newgrounds, we end up with much more passion-filled levels. It's clear that rply has an important connection to the song and had an amazing time creating the level.
30:55 the moment you said "too long and difficult" I knew exactly what level you were talking about and got super stoked. Commatose bar none is my favorite level I've ever seen/played. I know the majority of the community don't have an affinity with XL (and especially in this case given the level is 9 minutes long) but they provide such an experience that is not seen in shorter lengths with their intensity building, and Commatose does intensity building excellently both in its visuals and gameplay. Commatose's non-traditional and abstract way of representing music, its designs being grounded within what could be called "geometry dash" aesthetics that strays away from art and realism designs with the cyan/orange palette that makes for a striking yet familiar look, all alongside one of the best songs ever, an absolute masterpiece that shows every bit of Rply's 7-month long intense focus on the song that he's so passionate about. having enjoy very long levels myself I knew the moment it dropped this was something special that I just had to beat. It is so inspiring to see a work like this released: a work of absolute devotion and focus that tells everyone you do not have to know expert level artistry or mastery of realistic designs to make a mark in the community, I think in this front it is why the level is so often compared to Well Rested - another masterpiece with similar strong points (though can't be more different in theming). Again, very very happy you gave it a shout out! So happy its excellence can be spread further throughout the community 😄

I absolutely love Next Cab Soon, it's the best level out of all classic mythics I've played. The gameplay IS really fun, and the visuals are stunning. The song is also great.
Regarding what you said about spike clipping/"tech spam" in platformer extremes: I feel like you're misrepresenting them a bit. While I totally agree that the "needle" style of gameplay that has become very popular is not very entertaining to watch, the community that makes these levels has developed their own gameplay conventions over the past year, which has made for very enjoyable levels, even if it's not totally clear what you have to do at any point in time. Even then I wouldn't call needle a very tech-y gameplay style - it's certainly nowhere close to games like Celeste in terms of complexity, and other than a few hitboxes and moves you have to learn, it's very straightforward. Finally, to be honest, I expected more from you than to say something like "I never thought I'd see an extreme demon with gameplay that isn't just tech spam" (15:35). Because even if you're the world's biggest needle hater, I would go as far as to say most platformer extremes are way more than that. Check out Project BUZZKILL or the two Crerro Kaizo levels, for example.
If Rob did end up doing that, there would definitely be a ton of super influential pre 2.2 levels that would get a mythic rating such as Castlemania, Bloodbath, Nine Circles, What by Spu7Nix, Revolution by Funnygame, Change of Scene, How by Spu7Nix, Death Moon, ISpyWithMyLittleEye, Cataclysm, Mastergame & Lonely Travel.
31:35 craziest plot twist of the century, also i agree with you, I think generation retro is an amazing level, I've alway thought so and never understood the hate. It's not the only level that's built like this, there are even some levels in map packs and gauntlets.
33:35 based animal well enjoyer. Some things in quarion were also inspired from animal well. For example the yellow buttons that opens doors xD The quarion map was also vaguely based on how animal well did its map.
in terms of levels that should be mythic, personally i think CITYFADE got absolutely robbed. I absolutely ADORE the buildup of the level and how the city slowly looks more and more abstract with each part, and the ending where the level is being destroyed is beautiful. (i am aware this is my personal opinion though, so i can see why its only legendary)
I'll be honest, my tier list was almost exactly yours in reverse. But after watching this video, I see cool things about the levels I didn't like and am at least able to appreciate them more - ESPECIALLY Quarion, which was by far my least favorite mythic before watching this. @@GDColon Honestly I really appreciate and respect that you are brave enough to actually put your opinion out there - and your points, plus my realization of how hard making a Mythic-worthy level is (I'm trying to enter the Space Gauntlet contest haha) has brought me to appreciate the hard work each of these creators has poured in, even if I don't love the levels or styles themselves!
Next cab soon not only was a breathe of fresh air from your usual wannabe realistic deco level. It's just good - that's all it needed to be and succeeds. The gameplay goes extremely well with the song (which is so good by its own); and even though there's varation on the deco, all of it blends together in a single, consistent aesthetic which is pleasing to the eye and emits a very unique vibe barely seen in GD levels.
The main problem I had with towerwerse is the whole “your speed running the level so we’re removing all checkpoints” gimmick (this happens when you reach a certain point, with a low coin count), which is just dumb because I beat the first half but my game crashed so I had to restart and I didn’t want to waste time getting the coins again, and then the level basically turned into an extreme demon.
Hi Colon! I don't think there are much people talking about this, but I'm having an issue on playing 2.2 gauntlets. Most of the new levels in them are art levels. The thing is that none of the levels have a proper LDM and my PC, which isn't bad by the way, suffers, and some levels turns unplayable in certain parts. I personally believe we should start having more consideration on all players when adding official content to the game. After all, it's a mobile game, and most 2.2 gauntlet levels are too saturated. I also noticed in the comment section of each level that there are some people complaining about the lag, and that's because they're right. You almost have to have a gaming PC for having a good experience or, in worst cases, even being able to pass trough them. Also, not mentioning the surprising decay on gameplay desing, which becomes boring/unfair in some levels, but that's another subject. I hope we share opinions, but in every case, thanks!
Colon you said you've never played a metroid game, and my suggestion is to play metroid dread, its so fun and the concepts are so cool!!!!! Also, if you're up for the challenge, you should beat it in dread mode (one-shot mode). I've beaten it and i think it's a 10/10 game. Have a great day :3
I think that one of the problems with this system is how inconsistent it seems to be, even if it or isn't. The precedent was set with the first mythic and everyone compared levels that were close to getting mythic to it, like Decay (this is my favourite level of all time it deserves mythic so hard) to the Towerverse. Later on, you start seeing some levels get mythic while other levels similar to it didn't get it, and I think that this is where a lot of the issues come from. I think that because how there isn't a standard for mythic and how the only idea we have for "mythic-worthy" levels are levels that got it in the past, some levels that look like past mythic's and don't get it, and levels that look like past legendry's get a mythic rating always have 'those' comments. One thing I think is that I don't think a lot of these comments are meant to attack the creator, rather its to call robtop how for how he does things.
Wannacry, my beloved We GD Players need a way of having a say in the rating of a level, fire behind difficulty wise, or at the very least, a system that allows us to change the ratings for only ourselves, so people who complain about wrong decisions can at least personally change their ratings for themselves (with no changes towards stats, of course), and think “Yeah, that looks right to me”. Also, seeing Auto Play Area as a mythic is just wrong
I think why WANNACRY is my absolute favorite (Classic) Mythic in the game is its gameplay, slightly contrary to Colon's opinion. Sure the visuals are really, REALLY eye-straining, but if you look past that the gameplay is actually balanced. It's learny, but it definitely becomes more fun after a few practice runs and you get more consistent with it. Also did you notice that the level has absolutely ZERO jump indicators? Yeah, I was surprised too when I noticed that. I don't know if Kira just forgot to place indicators, but if it was intentional to leave them out, I commend the confidence. For the most parts the level is still (ironically) sightreadable, despite being flashy as hell.
@@AFishInPajamas 1. Jump Indicators are outdated trend nowadays, they are gone along with 2.1. RobTop himself hates them (and that's probably why Magistro didn't get Mythic). Also, for this level they would only ruin the whole idea. 2. The gameplay is not balanced, it's intentionally unbalanced. Yes, intentionally 3. The deco is also intentional, second half of the level is basically "killbot lite"
Wannacry is my favorite mythic level. It would be my favorite overall level if I hadn't found magistro but still. Also, magistro should've been mythic😢
The one last "rating" I would really want out of GD is something that highlights "culturally significant" levels to GD - and i assume it wouldn't even have to be a rating, more so a custom playlist or tab of levels that Rob handpicks (along with community votes). I would assume at least like, Retray, Bloodbath, Nine Circles, and (I think?) Unity would be on there

Tbh my biggest issue with Towerverse is the glider part and how much of a difficulty spike it is. Like you are set into a certain mood when playing the level, making nice and steady progress and then it just slaps you in the face with the glider mechanic after having spend already quite some time in the level. Atleast thats how I felt when I first played it. I guess this wouldnt be as bad as is, if you wouldnt have to play a platformer level in one sitting...

As someone, who beat commatose, I encourage everyone, who's scared of the lenght or difficulty of the level to at least try it out in practice mode.
I usually don't really like longer levels and expected to get annoyed at commantose, but enjoyed every minute of it. The gameplay flows perfectly and really adds to the song in a unique way. With a level this long a single chokepoint can completely ruin the level, but even though some parts are way harder than others, it doesn't feel frustrating and the really easy parts are actually nice to get a break from the harder gameplay.
Difficulty wise I should also mention, that since the level is super long, the core gameplay isn't that hard. It's probably pretty accessible even if your hardest is a medium or even easy demon.

Fun fact: In Quarion, you don't have to get all the abilities in order. There are a lot of neat design tricks that let you choose which one you get first.
Astralith was my personal favorite. My first easy demon, and the gameplay, song and deco simply work together amazingly.

I do think this video demonstrates a problem with the community. We are just too negative. Instead of praising levels for getting a mythic, we put them down because we don’t like certain aspects of the level. Be it the art, or the gameplay. This was especially true with towerverse, the level is good, but it “doesn’t deserve mythic” because “its gameplay/art sucks”. Why not praise it for breaking new grounds and being one of, if not the first full scale game level like it, or comment on parts you did like, or even suggest how to improve a certain part.
This problem goes beyond mythic rates as well. Event levels, dailies, and weeklies, all suffer from this issue also. Citadel and Geometry were met with horrible reception because people disliked the gameplay aspect. And instead of praising Subwoofers art or offering suggestions to improve Geometry’s gameplay, people wrote off the levels as bad.
I implore anyone reading this to try and look beyond the gameplay of a level, to see its art and creator vision. Maybe leave a constructive comment, or point out a small flaw, and if you truly despise a level, just don’t say anything at all…

yeah but is it interesting? do you admire how good your throat is at drinking specifically water out of any drink as a point of uniqueness? no.
My favorite Mythic level so far is probably Throat of the World, it's one of the few platformer levels I've seen that has really good decoration while still feeling like Geometry Dash, and I love how the gameplay is challenging without relying on "advanced tech" like slope boosting, all of the gameplay is extremely fair and accessible.
Never have I thought I would be on Colon's channel even for a bit. (That's insane!!)
I'm surprised that Next Cab Soon get so high on the list despite it has a bit of flaws. (I would hope you actually dig into our easter eggs we put in the whole collab lol, btw Astralith and NCS was made by "almost" the same team)
Great video about explaining some of aspects on the levels where they did great and where they don't. I can say I agree with 90% of the video here, thanks for pointing it out for the community, it can help a lot on future levels and creators.

Then it turned out one of our haters blocked the way with a huge wall of invisible spikes, so both Nexus and Partition turned up right before our build

30:55 the moment you said "too long and difficult" I knew exactly what level you were talking about and got super stoked. Commatose bar none is my favorite level I've ever seen/played. I know the majority of the community don't have an affinity with XL (and especially in this case given the level is 9 minutes long) but they provide such an experience that is not seen in shorter lengths with their intensity building, and Commatose does intensity building excellently both in its visuals and gameplay.
Commatose's non-traditional and abstract way of representing music, its designs being grounded within what could be called "geometry dash" aesthetics that strays away from art and realism designs with the cyan/orange palette that makes for a striking yet familiar look, all alongside one of the best songs ever, an absolute masterpiece that shows every bit of Rply's 7-month long intense focus on the song that he's so passionate about. having enjoy very long levels myself I knew the moment it dropped this was something special that I just had to beat.
It is so inspiring to see a work like this released: a work of absolute devotion and focus that tells everyone you do not have to know expert level artistry or mastery of realistic designs to make a mark in the community, I think in this front it is why the level is so often compared to Well Rested - another masterpiece with similar strong points (though can't be more different in theming).
Again, very very happy you gave it a shout out! So happy its excellence can be spread further throughout the community 😄

I absolutely love Next Cab Soon, it's the best level out of all classic mythics I've played. The gameplay IS really fun, and the visuals are stunning. The song is also great.
Regarding what you said about spike clipping/"tech spam" in platformer extremes: I feel like you're misrepresenting them a bit. While I totally agree that the "needle" style of gameplay that has become very popular is not very entertaining to watch, the community that makes these levels has developed their own gameplay conventions over the past year, which has made for very enjoyable levels, even if it's not totally clear what you have to do at any point in time. Even then I wouldn't call needle a very tech-y gameplay style - it's certainly nowhere close to games like Celeste in terms of complexity, and other than a few hitboxes and moves you have to learn, it's very straightforward. Finally, to be honest, I expected more from you than to say something like "I never thought I'd see an extreme demon with gameplay that isn't just tech spam" (15:35). Because even if you're the world's biggest needle hater, I would go as far as to say most platformer extremes are way more than that. Check out Project BUZZKILL or the two Crerro Kaizo levels, for example.

I absolutely ADORE the buildup of the level and how the city slowly looks more and more abstract with each part, and the ending where the level is being destroyed is beautiful.

Next cab soon not only was a breathe of fresh air from your usual wannabe realistic deco level. It's just good - that's all it needed to be and succeeds. The gameplay goes extremely well with the song (which is so good by its own); and even though there's varation on the deco, all of it blends together in a single, consistent aesthetic which is pleasing to the eye and emits a very unique vibe barely seen in GD levels.

Smells very geometrical
The main problem I had with towerwerse is the whole “your speed running the level so we’re removing all checkpoints” gimmick (this happens when you reach a certain point, with a low coin count), which is just dumb because I beat the first half but my game crashed so I had to restart and I didn’t want to waste time getting the coins again, and then the level basically turned into an extreme demon.

Hi Colon! I don't think there are much people talking about this, but I'm having an issue on playing 2.2 gauntlets. Most of the new levels in them are art levels. The thing is that none of the levels have a proper LDM and my PC, which isn't bad by the way, suffers, and some levels turns unplayable in certain parts. I personally believe we should start having more consideration on all players when adding official content to the game. After all, it's a mobile game, and most 2.2 gauntlet levels are too saturated. I also noticed in the comment section of each level that there are some people complaining about the lag, and that's because they're right. You almost have to have a gaming PC for having a good experience or, in worst cases, even being able to pass trough them. Also, not mentioning the surprising decay on gameplay desing, which becomes boring/unfair in some levels, but that's another subject.
I hope we share opinions, but in every case, thanks!
Colon you said you've never played a metroid game, and my suggestion is to play metroid dread, its so fun and the concepts are so cool!!!!! Also, if you're up for the challenge, you should beat it in dread mode (one-shot mode). I've beaten it and i think it's a 10/10 game. Have a great day :3
I think that one of the problems with this system is how inconsistent it seems to be, even if it or isn't. The precedent was set with the first mythic and everyone compared levels that were close to getting mythic to it, like Decay (this is my favourite level of all time it deserves mythic so hard) to the Towerverse. Later on, you start seeing some levels get mythic while other levels similar to it didn't get it, and I think that this is where a lot of the issues come from. I think that because how there isn't a standard for mythic and how the only idea we have for "mythic-worthy" levels are levels that got it in the past, some levels that look like past mythic's and don't get it, and levels that look like past legendry's get a mythic rating always have 'those' comments. One thing I think is that I don't think a lot of these comments are meant to attack the creator, rather its to call robtop how for how he does things.

We GD Players need a way of having a say in the rating of a level, fire behind difficulty wise, or at the very least, a system that allows us to change the ratings for only ourselves, so people who complain about wrong decisions can at least personally change their ratings for themselves (with no changes towards stats, of course), and think “Yeah, that looks right to me”.
Also, seeing Auto Play Area as a mythic is just wrong
I think why WANNACRY is my absolute favorite (Classic) Mythic in the game is its gameplay, slightly contrary to Colon's opinion. Sure the visuals are really, REALLY eye-straining, but if you look past that the gameplay is actually balanced. It's learny, but it definitely becomes more fun after a few practice runs and you get more consistent with it.
Also did you notice that the level has absolutely ZERO jump indicators? Yeah, I was surprised too when I noticed that. I don't know if Kira just forgot to place indicators, but if it was intentional to leave them out, I commend the confidence. For the most parts the level is still (ironically) sightreadable, despite being flashy as hell.

1. Jump Indicators are outdated trend nowadays, they are gone along with 2.1. RobTop himself hates them (and that's probably why Magistro didn't get Mythic). Also, for this level they would only ruin the whole idea.
