    Today you'll see how to hit that driver a lot straighter and farther.
    There are the two things that cost golfers the most in distance and direction:
    The first part has to do with weight transfer. When I watch an amateur golfer, from the top of their backswing, many golfers hang way too far back on your back foot throughout the entire swing.
    Sometimes, your right foot is still completely on the ground by the time you finish your swing.
    Now, if you watch a player who hits the ball long and straight off the tee, you'll always see them getting into a finish position that looks different (watch the video to see).
    They're up over their left side, their foot is on their right toe, their body is turned towards the target and forward. Obviously, there's a lot of variables involved with that, but it's very important we get to that finish position. Now, why is that important? Well, when you are making swings and you hang back on your back foot, a couple things come up with that...
    The biggest issue is swing direction. Now, there's a huge correlation with swinging over the top and where your weight is in your feet. So let's say 90% of golfers, during the downswing, swing their club over the top or outside, outside and across, or to the left. Something that causes those slice shots. So with this pattern, you're getting pulls and slices.
    I've got a LOT more to say about this in the video, so be sure to watch the whole thing.
    The next "golf death move" is angle of attack. So, speaking of distance increase or decrease, angle of attack is a tremendous influencer here.
    In a one-to-one, the more with my driver that I hit downward on the golf ball, so the club coming from up in the air, the more that it strikes down on the ball with my driver, the shorter I'm going to hit the ball, one-to-one. (This will make much more sense when you watch me demonstrate in the video).
    So the more I hit down, the shorter it goes, and then the opposite is true. Then, the less I hit down, or even the more that I could actually hit the ball slightly on the way up, the farther it goes.
    With a normal club head speed, if I got you to swing upward 5 degrees, you could be talking about 25, 30 yards off the tee difference with the same club head speed.
    Most of you guys watching this video aren't going to be able to add 10 or 15 miles per hour to your club head speed, which would be required to hit it 30 yards farther, but you can change your angle of attack easier and get those 30 yards with the same club head speed.
    In the video I'll show you why you swing downward and hit down, and how to get rid of your downward angle of attack so you can hit it much further.

    good video, but it's kind of a double whammy though, cause when you hang back you will hit up on golf ball more and when you get weight forward, you wont hit up on it as much so, we consciously want to hang back to hit up on it........

      Exactly, it think for most it would be a real mistake to tackle both these things at once (and I don't think that was his intention). Like all these online swing tips, it's imortant to knowi which of the faults is your own before trying to apply them. And if you're hanging back, fix that first because nothing good is happening until that's resolved. Then, with a good weight shift truly instilled, angle of attack can become a focus, obviously without losing that shift work.

    Ok. here we go. These performance Golf Zone guys are crooks. Buy a program and in the checkout click no, no, no, for anything else. But, a month later your card gets charged for a $20 monthly membership fee, which you have to fight with the bastard on the phone, because there is no other way to do it, to get cancelled. Pathetic.

    Good explanation of two classic faults, I have both. Simple drills to sort them. I’m off to the range. Thanks.

    Is “hanging back” the reason for grounding the driver?

    ok i struggle with consistancy striking center when ball is more fwd to hit up with driver . today i went to the range and placed ball about where the logo would be on ,my shirt and teed the ball even with the top of the face of the driver . so real low . i was hitting the center of the face with consistancy but ball flight was kind of low . 10.5 driver . every time i move the ball fwd and tee it up , i slice real bad . here the ball was strait but low it was landing around 220 or so and was like 50 to 75 ft off the ground and i normally swing 90 to 100 mph . What would be your suggestion for me moving fwd ? Do i need more loft on driver ? After watching this i might not be moving fwd with trail foot . i dont fall back just dont move during swing . if i were to move fwd i think i would have to move ball fwd but it seems hard to judge that with any type of consistancy ? any tips ?

    I find I need to focus on getting my arms more Out to right field. If I go up I tend to shorten my extension and slice the ball or hit it way too high..great video

    Sound advice. I am definitely a 'cast in concrete' backfoot driver of the ball. Practice swing I can play through to my left side why cant I do it for my real shot, any tips?

    • @citanullunatic4084
      @citanullunatic4084 6 років тому

      That's because in your practice swing you're 'swinging the club', in your actual shot you're 'hitting the ball'

      Try to imagine a small bush about 18 inches directly in front of your ball, when you swing the club collect the bush as well as the ball.

      Usually that stems from an earlier issue you are trying to fix by hanging back...most commonly an open clubface. Face is open so you have to swing left to have a chance at hitting it at your target...to make it easier to swing left you hang back. Of course thats not everyone but its most common. I would have to see you swing to say for sure

      I have the same problem. It’s worse with my driver by far. My practice swings are always great with a smooth weight transfer but I can’t duplicate the swing once I get over the ball 😑

    Excellent video. Couldn't understand why I was hitting the ground at impact which resulted in my driving true worm burners. Found it difficult to follow through with my swing as my balance was off. By trying to eliminate the "sway", my problem my drives have improved significantly. Thanks very much for the video. Have subscribed to your channel and looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

    Nice one, Eric ! 👍 I hang back too much and don't get through ball. Think problem with us hackers is we're trying to hit up too much - think I need to reduce axis tilt as well.
    All the best!

    Eric, rather than hitting a slice I tend to hit a push even when my weight stays on my back foot. Any different thoughts for that issue?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf 6 років тому

      If straight push with little to no curve you have a path thats slightly too far inside out...if theres curve its a different ball game. Would have to see to say for sure how to fix but if its a straight push I would look at drills to fix an inside out path

    • @guitar1950
      @guitar1950 6 років тому

      yes, a push with little to no curve most of the time. Thanks!

    Do you have any good tip for tall golfers how to shallow your driver? I know I tend to get steep at times but I haven't found a nice feeling to fix that. Thanks, appreciated!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf 6 років тому +1

      Thanks man. Usually I would use the same things regardless of height. Sometimes taller people I get their stance a little wider to lower the overall height, but not much else different imo

    I tried the pro golfer Hideki Matsuyama pause at the top of the swing, and all it produced was nasty vicious pulls, so now I'm back to my swing.

    • @citanullunatic4084
      @citanullunatic4084 6 років тому

      That's because you're starting your downswing with your shoulders, at the pause start your downswing with your hips/lower body.

      Just make sure your initial hip movement is a forward movement and not a twisting movement.
