Awesome video. Sometimes just knowing the true non-negotiables given the variety of good swings out there is the best. One question: do we do this same tee drill with the driver?
As I understand it, the goal isn’t to de-loft the club. The goal is to have your hands ahead of the ball at contact. Therefore, a de-lofted face is an indicator of achieving that with the benefit it brings. This means all clubs regardless of loft, will have less loft at contact if you are swinging the club correctly.
Very good, can’t wait for the next video series with another Performance Golf staffer that “dramatically improved’ someone’s game with a totally different conceptual concept that is geared for super seniors or maybe tour level amateurs. Sell, sell, sell, but everything works or not…
Thanks again Eric. Just one question, can the clubhead be too closed at the top the back swing? When I look at the clubface in my swing it starts out in the right position at shaft parallel, but at the top the face seems to pointing too much at the camera. Again, at shaft parallel in the downswing everything seems to be allright. But I sometimes pull my shots left of target.
Our pleasure! Yes the club face can definitely be too closed... At the top you want the leading edge of the club to roughly match your lead forearm angle OR slightly more pointed up.....but you can over due for sure leading to left shots. Best to check on video with good video
Eric, I see this (knuckles down) is now being promoted by multiple coaches. I dont have a problem with shaft lean or contact at address, but if I try this "knuckles down" I am severly closed at impact. What gives? I use a nuetral grip, and even at set up if I roll to knuckles down I am closed insane. Even if I roll club and rotate body my club face is closed with this. What am I missing?
Hey! Of course I cannot say for sure with out seeing your swing to see whats actually going on there. I would simply say DONT feel knuckles down if that makes it too closed Maybe your grip is actually strong and not neutral like you feel.....or maybe you are doing tOO MUCH knuckles down.....OR maybe you are doing it correctly and the club face is good going back but you are closing it too much going down Lets say your old backswing you used to open the club face more...say 30* of closing........that means your old swing you needed to CLOSE it 30* on way down to get back to square Now say you only open it 15* going back (more closed, less open) but you still close it 30* on way down like normal then you are 15* too closed at impact. So if its more closed (less open) going back you dont need to close it as much coming down hope that helps
May I ask how do I know how my club face facing which direction when my down swing at a smooth and very fast speed? The only way is to work at a slow motion, slow motion is opposite with normal smooth swing speed, I think we only get 1 out of 2, life is never be perfect :)
Great Video, Just a quick question. I noticed that you did not take a divot and then I noticed that they is a tee in the after contact. Was the ball on a tee? If the ball was on a tee that's not a very realistic situation from the fairway.
Hey James! Yeah great point and question.... We put the ball on a tee so we can keep the ball in the same place so we dont need to move the camera around. We have 4 camera setup and we want to make sure we have the best angles. If we put ball on ground and took big divot we would need to keep moving the ball back and back and the camera angle would be off Thats all!
Exactly my golf swing and shots right there. Early release, breaker of the wrists. So frustrating as I'm 53 and feel I just don't know how to fix this problem.
Simple fix. Pinch an alignment stick along your club so it sticks out the club end 18" or better. Also you can grip way down on to the shaft of your club and then make fake swings (because your club head will be a couple feet from ground/floor). Dont change your stance or anything, just make believe your club is still long enough to touch the grass or floor. These are just practice drills. You CAN hit balls slow/soft with first example. Once you get feel/sequence just drop the aid and hit normally.
Dustin Johnson is a horrible example. The average golfer will be pulling the ball all day unless they open their hips like crazy. A bowed wrist for the average golfer is a no no.
Hey! Thanks for watching and the feedback! I hear ya---most golfers have too much extension.....so they need to FEEL bowed......just to get to flattish. I have found that to work best....very few will actually get to bowed...hope all is well!

Thanks Matt! Yes you can do this with Driver and all clubs....if you miss to the right normally you would do it more....
Great video. Would be nice to explain why there is a need to deloft a club instead of taking a lower loft club.
Thanks Claude!

@@PerformanceGolfZone Wow, how nice of you to respond. Thanks! I wil try to find the video you've mentioned. :-)
❤ it!
Can it be achieved by rotating the wrist just before the impact?
Yep!

I would film it on your phone in slow mo and check !!

Gentlemen by following this technique I am shooting 3-4 over and I am 82. Most importantly this technique work for 40-50 yard shots and chipping.
Love it!!
What do you suppose Ben Hogan would say about this?????
Hey Ricky!
Something along the lines of "Awesome video Andrew and Eric!"
:)
You aren't taking a divot?
Hey! Dont have to....but can!
I think more emphasis on what to do
Thanks for the feedback Clayton!
