Very educational series Dave! I'm eager to see how it looks lashed up and in use. Thanks for taking the time to put these together, man!

I always have in a pocket, one of those little containers for carrying contact lenses. In one side is some Neosporin for treating cuts, scrapes, burns, etc. (I like the maximum strength, with pain reliever.). In the other side is some Bag Balm for chapped lips & hands. It isn’t large enough to be a first aid kit, so I call it my “1/2 aid kit”. Frankly, I’ve not opened my real first aid kit in years. The 1/2 aid kit has done the job on 20 or so camping trips plus a lot of motorcycle rides. Another very handy item is a Sawyer Extractor. It sucks out slivers, stingers, venom out of bug bites, etc.

Cool info on the fixin wax. I was gifted some and just use it a lub for bow drill, I did not know the other uses.
    Thanks for the tips, Lee

That bottom lap/stop joint was a good design thought. Leaves plenty of wood for strength and provides a good positive stop for the upward pull of the shoulder straps. Nice job Dave...

Dave: How aboout showing how to do that Ojibway Skin Pack that's in Wildwood Wisdom (page 68)? It seems very useful, but I can't understand how to do it.
Also, how about adding yarrow to something like Burleigh Balm? Might be a good thing, since it can now stop bleeding & might work as a bug repellant (although it seems sometimes Wild Geranium is better for mosquitos- Far North Bushcraft did a video on it where he does a side-by-side comparison, but that was in Alaska & maybe there's different species of mosquitos there). I'd like to see an option for the Burleigh Balm in that kind of tin that you used in the video- just an idea.

Pack frame is looking good, Dave. Have you though about putting a shelf on the bottom of that pack to help manage load displacement?

I've noticed out of all the knives you review you always use / carry the bhk pathfinder I've been looking for a knife designed the same way for a while now that isn't $500 the closest one I see is the 5 in blade Jeff white French trade for $35 but It just didn't have a thick or wide enough blade any ideas thanks and great vids big fan of what you do

Can you seal the wood only with birch oil or do you need the wax component in it? I don't know what kind of wax the fixing wax is. So do you have any recommendation what kind of wax I could use with the birch oil?

Dave Canterbury: at 9:19 I noticed the strait cut you made on the frame...the "half log cut" does not match to the angle of the back brace, is that on purpose or do you think a matching angle cut would seat the back brace better? I am not trying to nit pick, its an honest question....maybe with a pack on it, the frame will flex and bend and that is why it is the way you did it, I don't know....so yeah thanks for your videos regardless if you reply to my comment.

I have recently watched a few videos on thru hikers on the Appalachian trail, and was wondering how you (Dave) would approach a several month long hike given that you would be in and out of towns along the way. In one video some people killed a snake and ate it but I don't know about the legality of hunting in general though out most of the trail.
So what pack would you take and what gear would you put in it if you were to take on a hike of this nature? Do you think a primative pack frame design like the Roycraft frame or this Seneca frame would be comfortable enough for such a long journey? You normally take a lot of wool and steel(tools), but would anything change for this hike other than maybe a pocket hunter or takedown bow instead of a gun for small game hunting on the trail?

Great video! Have you ever watched anything by ray mears?
He is an Englishman who travels to learn all he can about bushcraft
My favorite was his week in canada learning the first world peoples way of crafting birchbark canoes, they don't use nails or anything much more than an axe a few wedges and a knife.
You and he walk the same path so I thought you might be interested...just sharing the tribal knowledge.
Many bright blessings to you and your family. :)

Wouldn't lashing the cross member be stronger than mortise since there would be no holes that might split?
