Difference between Matt, Avi: Avi is a basso profundo-rich, powerful, contrabass range. Matt is a lyric bass; more lyrical, less power and low range, but a wonderful rich high tessitura.
And for where Mitch is center stage, Kevin is wearing his Yale sweater. You have to watch the behind the scenes video to see it. And yes, Avi was known for the hips. Hey, don't knock it, a lot of females appreciate, included.
@@thechomiji yeah really I was thinking about that too. But I think this was before his obsession with Balenciaga I think he was more of a preppy boy at that point in time.
I've always taken it as they are dressed as kind of school groups, Hip Hop kids (Scott in front), Nerds (Mitch), Rich kids (Kevin), Outdoorsy kids (Avi), and Theater kids (Kirsten)
This whole video was shot at the campus of Mount St.Mary's University in the mountains outside of LA. Soon after this was filmed, Avi, Ben Bram (PTX producer/arranger) and Rob Dietz (composer/arranger) founded the A Cappella Academy, a 10-day intensive Summer music camp for 12 to 18-year-olds from around the world, where they have courses in vocals, performance, theory/arranging, and specialties like beatboxing and bass singing (which Avi often teaches himself). The campus was perfect for their needs, with classrooms, the chapel, dormitory rooms, cafeteria, and auditorium. There are numerous videos from each of the camp years since 2014 (although last year was all distanced and recorded individually, then edited together. To give you an idea why Avi has said ACA is his proudest achievement so far, here's the 2019 class performing Avi's original piece "The Seed" at the showcase at the end of the 10 days. These kids are awesome. ua-cam.com/video/XZ89BHmRfws/v-deo.html
Avi's dance is famously known as 'the body roll' (Todrick Hall parodied it hilariously in his 'Pentatodrix' parody video.) Another name I've heard is the 'spaghetti-legs dance.' And yeah, he did play it up to the max in their live shows, and the ladies went WILD for it! 😁 Oh, and your 'Mitch-face' did not disappoint, by the way. 😋
Avi always hated the choreography, but his hip rolls are legendary. When PTX was on the Sing Off, they actually SANG on Hip Hop Week because they didn't think they could rap. I guess they eventually figured out that they definitely COULD...especially Scott, Mitch & Kirstie, who each rapped on several of their earlier songs. Kevin made his rapping debut on their original song Sing. Avi was the only original member who openly admitted that rapping was never part of his repertoire. Not sure about Matt.
Intro To Matt Sallee has a member of Matt's old a capella group saying he could really rap so 🤷🏻♀️ I haven't seen anything actually showing it, though. Superfruit was actually originally going to be the name of Mitch and Scott's anonymous (think Sia) rap duo. That idea obviously got scrapped, but it certainly would have been interesting.
Can always count on your comments to be filled will knowledge and interesting facts LarryWT, I really appreciate the one and effort you put in, thank you!
From what I remember, both the clothes and the surroundings represent them. Like how Kevin's area is in a church because he's very religious and Avi is out in nature because he's a nature kinda guy. Plus with the clothes, Mitch is a bit of a nerd deep down, and Kirstin is a bit of a rocker, almost gothy chick. As for Scott, um...I guessing he's kind of a skater boi? That one I can't translate.
I don't have any technical knowledge about the difference between Matt & Avi but personally I love Avi. Avi's sound could be plucked out even when it was meant to blend. Matt blends with the group and fills it out and makes it feel whole not separate. IMO
Throwback time and loving it! You seemed short of words here and there to tell us what you thought of this performance, LOL! And thanks for your comments on Avi versus Matt. Too many people don’t give Matt a real chance because they keep comparing whilst setting Avi up as ‘the bass standard’. Avi being a rare basso profundo this is just not fair and you appreciate both for who they are and for their own voice.
It’s so hard sometimes to accurately put into words how their music makes me feel Jiska haha, they are just amazing. I am definitely a fan of bass singers, and I appreciate these two men and their differences. Thanks for everything!
You have reacted to the wizard of ahhhhs. Now you need to react to pentatodrick. Todrick Hall does a tribute to pentatonix. He kept calling Scott when doing this to get hints and told them they were insane.
Before watching Pentatodrix, you should watch the Pentatonix mashup "Save the World" x "Don't You Worry Child" (Swedish House Mafia mashup) for context, because the first half of "Pentatodrix" is based on that video. And don't skip the outro for "Pentatodrix", which is hilarious, and features a cameo by Olaf. And then you have to watch the Superfruit reaction to "Pentatodrix" in which Mitch and Scott had a whole lot of fun watching their friend drag them (in a loving fashion).
They did awhile ago. Just their video with lmnt came out today which is only a portion of the whole song. It’s a minute longer than what they showed. The whole song is on their new album of Originals called The Lucky Ones.
Hi there! Nice reaction! Actually, I think I've always found Avi akward in dancing, especially seen in their SingOff performances 😆. But they are so good with their voices. In this video, I'm really amazed at how good they are already, in there early days... And even if they think they're the Lucky Ones, I honestly think We are the Lucky Ones, to witness so much talent brought together by visible love they have to each other And for us.
I agree 💯 Zoary, I think all of us are lucky and I agree about Avi as well however none of the ladies seem to mind too much haha! Thank you for everything!

Haha avi body roll, that’s amazing Aaron! I doesn’t surprise me that Mitch can sing that high, they make such a wonderful combo! Thanks for everything!
Is what sets Pentatonix apart from any other acapella band. There is not a genre they will not tackle and will not master. They can do an electronic and dance music, r&b and soul, gospel and country, pop and classical, even dabbling in a little heavy metal. I challenge home free to do a rap song!

Both are simply amazing in their own way, thanks for the info and for watching Michael DEAK!
Thank you for saying it with the proper terms. I tried to describe the difference, but I couldn't remember the technical terms for it.
Is it me or tho avi goes lower, Matt has a greater range?
It was actually Mitch who did the whistle. They have a small difference in their whistle notes that was a Mitch note
That was Mitch holding that high note and then he went even higher! 😅
His voice is insane Grace, thanks for the info and for watching!
The outfits represent their personalities. Everyone dressed different and gets the center stage and everyone dresses to match that persons style.
Very cool thanks for the info Erika IBC!

I have not …. Yet ….. it is definitely on my list Shirley!
It’s close to the original; I like this one better. Avis’ movement is somewhat limited to maintain his low bass.
I’ve read that it’s hard for a bass to move a lot & maintain the depth of his voice. So, Abi is a bit limited in his choreography.
