I like how Goku's offer of mercy being rejected enraged him enough to transform into a Super Saiyan a 2nd time.
But the second time is way easier to transform. Not same rage as 1st one
@@99Gara99 his body cells have learned. It's like when your body learns to deal with certain viruses, the saiyan body can get used or their saiyan cells memorise certain stuff and achieve said things or do said changed faster and easier.

To transform subsequently, you remember that same emotion you felt the first time and then the transformation happens automatically.
Goku didn't have much control over SS at this point. Goku gave a chance to Frieza so he didn't have to kill him. But he didn't take it, both of them knew Frieza would end up dying to Goku, but even then, he chose his pride over his life. Which showed how little he actually valued life, both his own and others'. You can literally see Goku's emotions on his face in the video, it's the conflict in his mind of having someone's death on his own hands and knowing that he has to do it because that's the only way Frieza will stop killing. It enraged Goku enough to trigger a second transformation.

Of course people like Goku better than anyone else in the series, it's because he's been around since the beginning of dragon ball and on top of that him and his children are who the series revolves around, you would know this if you've watched all the arcs of dragon ball and not just super
The way Goku's personality changes after he transformed the first time sent chills up my spine when I was watching this as a kid (and it still does). He had always been carefree and light-hearted even since Dragon Ball, and although he could be very stoic and determined at times, he never really lost his temper entirely. Watching him struggling to hold on to that side of himself is my favorite thing in all of anime.

It's actually better in the Kai dub. He calls Frieza a bastard, and as he's transforming, he tells Frieza he's going to make him suffer.
When he tells Gohan to take Piccolo and go, he basically warns Gohan that he's losing his mind and doesn't know how much longer he can keep it together.

I think we've overlooked for years how Goku was able to go SSJ on command less than five minutes after just having gone SSJ on instinct.
Because all it took back then was rage, and Frieza obviously enraged him here.

I don't care what anyone says but Goku vs Frieza in DBZ is literally the best fight ever. The atmosphere was just so intense, battling on a dying planet with a red sky and violent storms and wondering 2 things, can Goku defeat Frieza? And even if he does, can he escape the planet before it explodes? None of Goku's other battles were as intense and iconic as this. PERIOD

It's Freeza not frieza. The character's name is a pun on freezer, and his name (フリーザ, or Furiiza) is written, in Japanese, almost identically to how you would write the word freezer (フリーザー, or furiizaa). The extra ー at the end changes it from an "ah" to more of an an "er" sound, but the rest of the name is written identically. Given the name pun and the way it's spelled, Freeza just comes off as the better, more appropriate way to spell the character's name.

1:00 may honestly be the most terrifying moment in DBZ. Goku is the epitomy of good-nature and naivete. To see his face change to this expression of pure disbelief and rage is terrifying. When Goku, of all people, looks at you like this, you know you goofed up and you're in trouble.

The crazy thing is at this point Goku didnt have any idea how to enter or leave Super Saiyan at will. When he breathed out and changed back, it was because the rage he felt had left him, and when Frieza attacked him it legitimately angered him enough to change back again.
Yeah I think that's crazy to think about. I liked to think Goku had no idea he actually depowered or repowered up to super Saiyan. It kind of just happened with his volatile emotions at this point.

Frieza’s progression as a character was one of the things Super did very, very right. He’s a rare example of a villain going through a positive change arc without improving at a moral level.
He wouldn’t try this today. He’d just eat the loss and resolve to improve. Kinda wild looking back on this moment now.
Actually super ruined it. This entire arc its about Freeza as a unredemable villain.
