Loddlenaut being a cross of Powerwash Simulator, Subnautica and monster taming also comes this year. While not the traditional take on the genre, it's still looking cute af.
Would have also included Ova Magica and Abominations Console Release but with so many games, it's hard to remember every game. Abominations is Q3 of this year (Delayed from Q2) and far as i know, Ova Magica is still 2023.

So, somewhat off topic, but would you consider "Dinosaur Sims" like The Isle and Path of Titans to be monster tamers?
You raise, battle, and kind of collect dinosaurs.
I really wish one of these concepts would be given a AAA budget and resources. Pokémon has been in such a pathetic state for the past decade that I genuinely believe something could swoop in and take some of it’s market share.
Same with Animal Crossing. New Horizons was actual dog shit but people played it anyway because there aren’t any other games that provide a similar experience. Stardew Valley is approaching ten years old and was primarily made by one person yet it’s still better than literally anything that’s come out since. The only advantage Animal Crossing has over it is in production value. I know they’re both trying to do slightly different things, but they still appeal to the same audience so it feels appropriate to compare the two. If a publisher put real money behind a game like those and gave it a less prohibitive style than Stardew Valley’s (no offense) it could be a massive success. There’s not even a single aspect of it that’s a “masterpiece” or anything, it just does everything it tries to do really, really well.
With a large community building up strictly around “cozy” games it feels like creating a direct competitor to Animal Crossing is going to happen sooner rather than later. There was an entire press conference this past month dedicated to that style of game and a lot of them looked very promising and will be available on console as opposed to staying in Early Access indefinitely. It still feels like Pokemon is a wholly unique experience and I don’t think anything will ever dethrone it, but it does look like larger companies are at least beginning to pay attention to how much money they’re leaving on the table by letting Nintendo undeservedly continue to control an incredibly starved market by rushing out unfinished and underwhelming games every year.
