From what I've heard regarding the fight, but also in this ep y'all are saying that the side of him that isn't cruel is trying to find a way out, something to latch on to and exist? ya? I think that's what I understand and I do love that. I feel it may be more realistic in regards to representing what he really is and what he's internally struggling with. Also expresses the idea that he's not burying his feelings and would actually welcome them if they find their way back
When he says "he's still there" it's like his defense mechanism to remind himself to not let his guard down and to let himself not feel any emotion that can be manipulated

Interesting take on it. I took the line "I'm still in there" as in, still mentally in the White Room, which the scene showed him in. Stuck in that emotionally broken place because of the things he went through during that period. It seems as if he's hoping to, at least some day, escape that "prison".

As they head back, Ayanokoji asks for her assistance once again especially during covert operation which she accepts as long as he protects her if her relationship with Hirata went south. Ryuen: straight up tortures and waterboards a girl in the last episode, smashed another girls face on the desk, tried to kick a tiny, physically impaired girl in the face Lala (probably): "He's not THAT bad, cause you know, he's hot and he got that voice..." Now tell me looks don't matter.
Him waterboarding Karuizawa is anime original, that whole torture scene was made to be more extreme in the anime for some reason. In the LN, they still threw water at her (still not to that degree), but Ryuuen aimed more for a mental approach, as in breaking her psychologically and mentally rather than physically like he did in the anime. Same for him smashing Manabe's face on the desk, that was only in the anime. As a LN reader, I can definitely see why many anime-onlies would hate him and tbh I don't even blame them because it's like Lerche wanted to make him a hateable asshole. But in the LN, he is one of the most interesting and complex characters IMO as well as a fan favorite alongside Karuizawa and Kiyotaka.

Kiyotaka is on of top 5 handsome students in the first year, but because of his lazy eyes, doesn't smile and doesn't talk much, people don't see his attractiveness except for his close acquaintances
The "Unworthy of Smiling For" line is an anime original, pretty sure that wasn't what he thought of Here's how it actually went: “But you still didn’t have fun, did you? I mean, you didn’t smile.” "Well, I'm just genuinely bad at smiling, is all." I had no idea whether Satou believed me. She probably thought I said that to console her. Truthfully, I might still disappoint her. I just didn't feel the way about her that she clearly felt about me, so, in a sense, her concerns about my not having fun weren't entirely off the mark. I had enjoyed hanging out, but I hadn't enjoyed it in the way Satou hoped. Ayanokoji's personality portrayed in the anime is too cruel to the point that it seems like he doesn't understand people's emotions when in fact he actually exhibits extreme cognitive empathy. He's not able to show his emotions but he understands people's emotions/perspective very well.
Also, this was how he turned down Sato confession: “I’m sorry, Satou. I can’t be that for you.” “Oh! I-I see. I guess it’s hopeless, huh?” Satou, clearly fighting not to break down, gave me a small smile. “W-well, for future reference, could you maybe tell me why? Is there someone else you like?" “It’s not like that. I’m just not ready for a relationship. It’s really me, not you,” I told her. “No matter who asked me out right now, my answer would be the same…whether it was you, Satou, or someone like Horikita or Kushida. I can’t go out with someone if I don’t love them back.” I’d give Airi the same answer if she ever decided to tell me about her feelings. “This might sound kind of lame, but I’ve never had feelings for anyone yet. @@vesta1000 Anime Ayanokoji is fairly different from the LN version. They make him come across as much more emotionless, and they alter scenes where he does show some emotion (Like the Ryuuen punching scene) to be more deadpan and cold. He's no ray of sunshine in the LN, but there's certainly more nuance and he's a bit of an unreliable narrator. I've just decided that it's best to consider them as two different characters (Much more similar than the manga version, but still different), because they clearly want him to be more "edgy" to appeal to those kinds of fans.
I think that "I suppose I'm still there" line means that he realizes he's acting exactly how his father wanted him to he may be defying him directly but despite that he's exactly how his father wanted him to turn out
In the novel ibukes injury makes more sense since ayanokoji throat slammed her onto the floor hitting her head on the ground, plus they skipped this part but the next day after the fight, ibuki wanted a rematch with ayanokoji so after asking him non stop he considered it and he won again easily

Kiyotaka mentions that one of the things that 'disqualified' Horikita as a romantic option, so to speak, was the fact that she only ever comes to him when she wants some assistance with a problem of hers/to help the class rise in the ranks.
They missed out on a very important monologue from the LN in the anime he states that during the past year both him and kei has grown closer to each other and wishes their relationship becomes something more.He doesn’t realize his own feelings for her 😂.

I saw that there is another subbed version of this ep, and the monologue from Ayanokoji is worded better, but you already caught on the fact that he feels like his past is still too influent on him, and that he actually would want to not see people as just tools. In the LN, in this part, he mentions that Kei is now an essential existence to him, and I believe that there is a monologue that was cut where he mentions that he actually feels at least a little more relaxed when Kei is around. Also, to be fair, Ayanokoji is a master manipulator, but he is not that much of a liar. He makes deals but he owns up to them.
i think u mightve missed it but around the end (when Kiyotaka and Kei were exchanging gifts) he called her by her first name for the first time. my boy is growing

Nice reaction ! The anime lacks some important explanations about why Ryueen wanted to drop out. In the LN, after the incident Ryueen threatens Ayanokoji to say it was him who started all of this and put the responsability on him as they are the injured ones here. But Ayanokoji says that he was seen on the cameras at the Keyaki Mall at the moment the camera was destroyed in the gym so he had an alibi (this is the entire reason why he was with his friends before going to save Kei). On top of this he has witnesses who can testify if necessary (Manabu and the teacher). If Ayanokoji wanted to, he could easily sacrifice his and Kei's secrets and tell everything about what happened here, combined with the testimony of Manabu and the teacher, it would result in the expulsion of the four of them, so class C is at an overwhelming disadvantage. That's why Ryueen tried to take all the responsability and drop out. But he was stopped by the fact class D took responsability for the cameras and also the fact that Albert and Ishizaki were ready to drop out if ryueen were to drop out, blackmailing him into staying the school. And about the ending with Sakayanagi, in the LN it happened right after the sports festival, Sakayanagi saying the she remembered Ayanokoji immediately by seeing him running. He said she must be mistaken and was about to leave when she talked about the "White Room". Hearing those words, he felt shock for the first time in the LN. He couldn't believe she knew about his past.
The part about Ibuki having a weak grip makes more sense in the Light Novel, as Ayonokouji choke-slams her into the ground in the fight instead of just karate chopping her
ibuki had injuries in light novel..they were not visible though i mean in light novel ayanokoji grabbed ibuki's neck and slammed her into the ground but whereas in anime he knocked out ibuki with a chop to the neck.. they just did not changed ryuen and ibuki's convo in which he said "is it because of your injuries".... and he didnt even smile till now in the light novel in which literally more than half of the year 2 has passed
From what I remember, the girls in the class did say Ayanokoji is like the 2nd or 3rd most attractive guy in the class, he’s just seen as an dull, cold, and unapproachable.
7:00 He was considered the 5th most handsome amongst all 1st years boys, but he was too gloomy and low social comunication skills to be popular, so yeah, he is attractive, and when he showed his physical abilities on the race, it made Satou fall for him.
The most energetic reaction I have seen, relates to how I act when I watch anime and get excited 😊 I ship them and hope their relationship evolves and that she is the one that makes him smile.
I didn't even think about it until you mentioned it, but yeah, the line about Ibuki's injuries makes no sense in the context of the anime version because Kiyotaka barely did anything to her beyond gently knocking her out.
After this episode I don’t think he’s a sociopath as much anymore it’s more so he’s learning how to have a personality and learning about himself through his relationship with Kei
Good episode, but to be honest, it's a bit disappointing, because in LN Kiyotaka and Kei's parts are filled with romantic and refreshing scenes, but the studio turned it bad as if Kiyotaka was just using Kei. I think they want to make the ending like the first season (a tool monologue). But yknow, actually Kiyotaka wasn't that evil, at that moment he wanted to feel emotions with Kei as his partner, and said Kei would be an important figure for him in the future. But still peak episode! Also, i really like the fact that Ryuen is trying to get himself drop out and doesn't want to involve the others (Ishizaki, Albert, and Ibuki). Ryuen is a dictator, but he always prioritizes his class. That's why he's the best villain in the series! So excited for season 3!!!
"but the studio turned it bad as if Kiyotaka was just using Kei" Yeah but the way I see it is the LN is viewed mostly from Ayanokoji's POV, whereas the Anime is from POV of an outside observer, sure his dialogue regarding how he views Kei should have been the LN version but the anime shows him as all the other characters view him, i.e. an emotionless sociopath who pretends to be normal to achieve his goals... when in reality he does *feel* emotions, he just can't express them outwardly so no one can tell what he's thinking, and his tool mentality likely stems from his White Room trauma, for him to even call Kei by her first name is enough to show that he at least WANTS to abandon this tool mentality but that same mentality is what's helping him overcome the obstacles in his way, he's basically trying to drop an old habit that's been drilled into him for his entire life

anyone else feels a little bad for Ayanokoji. like yes he views people as pawns probably mostly because of the white rooms "education" but it's like he doesn't want to. Idk about the LN, but I wish the anime would show the audience what Kiyotaka was thinking when he put his plans into motion, for example when he called Kei to cut contact with him. It honestly feels pretentious to have him explain that everything was according to his plan (when he called her, when he delayed his arrival, etc.), gives me the impression that he was just claiming everything that happened to be part of his plan, like,"Oh the one when I called Kei to cut contact with me? Hehe, oh yeah, that was part of my plan ofc, haha..".
Tbh it's hard to believe this is the same Ayanokoji that gave that love advice to Ichinose or being Sakura's hero being there to help her I get this is just after the fight and all, but they're really tryna push edgy Ayanokoji out there, he definitely seemed a lot more gentle last season
If my issues with the student council and my father didn’t exist, maybe I could’ve answered Satou differently. If she’d told me her feelings before the relay and my father’s visit, I might’ve accepted. Ironic, since the relay was what made her develop feelings for me. A normal boy in his first year of high school might’ve taken up the first girl to offer him affection. But I wasn’t normal. Better to keep things simple. Year1 v7.5

5:16 he actually did in the novel. But the anime changed that part 14:16 He never thought that in the novel. Quite the opposite. He didn't have any complaints about taking her as his gf. But Kei is more useful and he also didn't want to make her feel unsecure, that's why he won't take Sato as his gf.
Still sad about this season. They cramped an ENTIRE volume of LN into this episode and skipped most of it :c Edit: highly recommending reading the LN up to volume 7.5 (where this season ends) before s3 if you want or you can also watch Saadisfy's videos since they are really good and are explaining things nicely.
Well they did vol 4.5 in one episode and change it. So.... maybe not so bad ? And with how every volume .5 is adapted maybe in the future we'll get 1 episode adaptation again.

If you guys are wondering, Ayanokoji only smiled One time in the whole Light Novel but if you count a grin as a smile then I guess he smiled two times.
Ayanokoji accepted Sato's invitation to go on a date bcos he wanted to judge her worth. He wanted to see if she's as competent as Karuizawa in terms of wit/sharpness or if she can replace Karuizawa's role as the leader of Class D's girls. Obviously, the result of his judgement is as clear as day w his answer to Sato's confession. Hypothetically, let's just say Sato can replace Karuizawa's role. IF that happens then I think he'll accept Sato's confession. The Ayanokoji rn is imo experimenting with what and how he'll move forward w his school life, so if only he deems Sato (or any other characters) worthy then he's ok w them. It just so happen that Karuizawa is that person atm.
There's already a lot of LN related comments here, but I wanna point how the translation/subs on the muse asia version is definitely the better one, for the "unworthy to smile for line" in muse asia it went like this "It's not that I can't smile, I'm just not good enough to do so. That's because I'll judge myself that way" it shows more as to how he just dont know how to express his emotions, rather than seeing sato unworthy of his smile, All I'm saying watching the muse asia version didnt made me feel like he was an edgelord, he was already straightforward to sato as to why he cant date her, That's all I wanna say, you might wanna watch the Muse Asia version of this if you wanna see it in a different pov and I think its more accurate to the ln, i was actually suprised as to how the subs are like that, personally i always think that version of subs is better than muse asia, but seems like muse asia got the better one this episode lol

Well showing Ayano being cold af with satou was a very anime-kinda thing since anime's been portraying him as a cold-hearted fella without emotions ,but in LN he was pretty chilled abt it and actually used more words to reject satou's proposal , he even said that he would always remember her as the first girl who showed interest in him and had the guts to confess her feelings ... Ayano calling Kei by her first name was more dramatic in LN ,anime kinda ruined it for me due to being too straightforward like even Kei's reaction was plain lmao It actually ended on a gud note and by giving a last minute confrontation between Ayano & Arisu ,they legit created a pretty decent hype for s3 ... They changed the whole promise thing with Manabu ,which ig is a shame cuz i was looking forward to the convo between Ayano ,Ryuuen & Manabu ,but that promise he made in LN wouldn't have made sense cuz it was related to nagumo and we weren't shown anything abt him lol Ayano literally went to watch a movie alone ,like before his date and other stuff ,and met Ibuki there ,in LN that interaction was just hilarious plus she challenged him for a rematch and Ayano clapped her again lol Overall it was a good wrap up ,not sayin s2 outdid s1 ,no i don't think so personally ,but the last two eps literally carried this one at least

I know Ayanokouji seems like to be a very cold and smart charactere in general, but this time I think we saw how his rational way of thinking can outplay himself, espacially when it comes to his realtionship with Kei: In fact, Ayanokouji planned to "bond" Kei on himself with his actions, but he thinks it worked out because she is depending on him and his protection still to this moment. Altough, we, the audience, know that Kei wants "to be used" by him, because she developed feelings for Ayanokoiji. In Ayanokoujis eyes it probably would not make sense for Kei to love him after what he did to her. But beliefing she's still depending on him and underestimating her character developement could possible surprise him in the future, for example if she gets tired to chase after him and choose to continue her life without him because she now has the self confidence to act on her own because of Ayanokouji
the anime's trying its best to make Ayanokoji look like an absolute cruel entity and Ryuuen a tamed dog. The lines they used/changed/removed are very misleading to the point that it doesn't adhere to their actual personality.

Kinda irritating that people read the LN keep on saying that they are disappointed in the way that they adapt or skipped some part of COTE and some people talking about the animation. Like bro despite all of that it is still good, sure it lacks of information (for LN readers) but come on just be thankful because after all these years of waiting its finally animated. Those information that they didn't use atleast you have some extra information that you know or know some scene that wasn't in the anime. (For LN readers) And for those who are talking about the animation. Dang, then why don't you animate it for yourself then? Simple as that I started watching C.O.T.E since July 12, 2017(1st release) and didn't even bother to read the LN cause i don't want to be like the other people that keeps babbling about the missing scene and dialogue.

I don't think this is a grand spoiler because it was just an extra chapter in the light novel but ayanokoji technically had 2 dates before this one. Both of them were with ibuki and they were the funniest accidental dates I've ever seen.

Ayanokouji is so ruthless in the anime lols, in the LN he is way more complex, the anime only adapted his white room persona while disregarding Ayanokouji's caring side (especially to Kei) and Kiyo sometimes second- guess/ contradicts himself.
So what to expect in Season 3? I will just give minor spoilers for the upcoming arcs in Season 3 . . . . . . . The first arc will be Volume 8 in the novel. Here we'll see the rivalry between Horikita Manabu (The former Student Council President) and Nagumo Miyabi, the blond guy who was the current SCP. Nagumo is a Second Year student from Class 2A and there's no one in his School Year who can be his opponent that's why he's going for Manabu as he wanted to surpass him. You could say that he's the undefeated tyrant of the 2nd Year. He will also target Ayanokoji coz he also notices that his Manabu Senpai took an interest to Ayanokoji instead of him. We'll also see Sakayanagi Arisu finally making her moves as she will targets Ichinose and Class B. Here we'll know Ichinose's past and how she got that many points. And for the final arc, as you can see in the last scene, it will be Ayanokoji VS Arisu. Arisu is the only student who knows Ayanokoji's past. A natural born genius unlike Ayanokoji who was made to be genius. Nature vs Nurture. So who do you think will going to win? I cant wait for the next season.
I suggest reading the light novels if you like reading, because watching only anime makes you miss 60% of the story. Season 2 is 5 books volume 4.5 - 7.5 if I'm correct.

Karuizawa asked Ayanokoji of what he was like in Junior High with him saying that he was just an ordinary student. She then immediately rejected such a notion since the world would have gone 'totally nuts' if he was normal, gesticulating wildly to bring her point across. She then gave her impression of how he was smart, good at fighting yet taciturn. Sometimes he is naive of the world, and sometimes also do 'really messed-up things'. Unbeknownst to Karuizawa, she was able to accurately guess what Ayanokoji's past was like whereby he was like someone who was raised in an intense facility since childhood akin to a manga. He was surprised yet neither confirm nor deny her guess. Karuizawa vows to make him reveal his past to her someday.
It then began snowing. Karuizawa decides to give him a Christmas present since things didn’t work out with Satou. Karuizawa then made some teasing comments and reveal that the gift was an insurance in case she had to give it to Yousuke in public. They then talk about Karuizawa breaking up with Hirata, which Ayanokoji agrees with since she was no longer the same Karuizawa as when they first joined
She asked if he wants a beating after seeing it was a drugstore bag filled with medicines and a receipt. As Karuizawa checked the content of the receipt, Ayanokoji reveals that when he was heading to the dorms on the 23rd, he coincidentally saw them concocting their plans in the mall, hence, he inferred that she wasn’t sick from the prior events. He knew that calling her would be redundant since she would had acted tough and decided to use this as a roundabout way to show as an apology. As they head back, Ayanokoji asks for her assistance once again especially during covert operation which she accepts as long as he protects her if her relationship with Hirata went south.
Ayanokoji reflects on how Karuizawa was the person she grown closest to during the year which she probably also felt the same.

Him waterboarding Karuizawa is anime original, that whole torture scene was made to be more extreme in the anime for some reason. In the LN, they still threw water at her (still not to that degree), but Ryuuen aimed more for a mental approach, as in breaking her psychologically and mentally rather than physically like he did in the anime.
Same for him smashing Manabe's face on the desk, that was only in the anime.
As a LN reader, I can definitely see why many anime-onlies would hate him and tbh I don't even blame them because it's like Lerche wanted to make him a hateable asshole. But in the LN, he is one of the most interesting and complex characters IMO as well as a fan favorite alongside Karuizawa and Kiyotaka.

Here's how it actually went:

I had no idea whether Satou believed me. She probably thought I said that to console her. Truthfully, I might still disappoint her. I just didn't feel the way about her that she clearly felt about me, so, in a sense, her concerns about my not having fun weren't entirely off the mark. I had enjoyed hanging out, but I hadn't enjoyed it in the way Satou hoped.
Ayanokoji's personality portrayed in the anime is too cruel to the point that it seems like he doesn't understand people's emotions when in fact he actually exhibits extreme cognitive empathy. He's not able to show his emotions but he understands people's emotions/perspective very well.
Also, this was how he turned down Sato confession:
“I’m sorry, Satou. I can’t be that for you.”
“Oh! I-I see. I guess it’s hopeless, huh?” Satou, clearly fighting not to break down, gave me a small smile. “W-well, for future reference, could you maybe tell me why? Is there someone else you like?"
“It’s not like that. I’m just not ready for a relationship. It’s really me, not you,” I told her. “No matter who asked me out right now, my answer would be the same…whether it was you, Satou, or someone like Horikita or Kushida. I can’t go out with someone if I don’t love them back.”
I’d give Airi the same answer if she ever decided to tell me about her feelings.
“This might sound kind of lame, but I’ve never had feelings for anyone yet. I’m not rejecting you, personally. I just haven’t really matured enough to handle romance,” I said.

There wasn’t anything else I could say.

They make him come across as much more emotionless, and they alter scenes where he does show some emotion (Like the Ryuuen punching scene) to be more deadpan and cold. He's no ray of sunshine in the LN, but there's certainly more nuance and he's a bit of an unreliable narrator.
I've just decided that it's best to consider them as two different characters (Much more similar than the manga version, but still different), because they clearly want him to be more "edgy" to appeal to those kinds of fans.

In the novel ibukes injury makes more sense since ayanokoji throat slammed her onto the floor hitting her head on the ground, plus they skipped this part but the next day after the fight, ibuki wanted a rematch with ayanokoji so after asking him non stop he considered it and he won again easily

Kiyotaka mentions that one of the things that 'disqualified' Horikita as a romantic option, so to speak, was the fact that she only ever comes to him when she wants some assistance with a problem of hers/to help the class rise in the ranks.
They missed out on a very important monologue from the LN in the anime he states that during the past year both him and kei has grown closer to each other and wishes their relationship becomes something more.He doesn’t realize his own feelings for her 😂.

I saw that there is another subbed version of this ep, and the monologue from Ayanokoji is worded better, but you already caught on the fact that he feels like his past is still too influent on him, and that he actually would want to not see people as just tools. In the LN, in this part, he mentions that Kei is now an essential existence to him, and I believe that there is a monologue that was cut where he mentions that he actually feels at least a little more relaxed when Kei is around.
Also, to be fair, Ayanokoji is a master manipulator, but he is not that much of a liar. He makes deals but he owns up to them.

in the light novel, it was explained that the reason Ayanokoji went on on date with Sato was to see if he could develop any romantic feelings for her
We need to ackowledge that Ayanokouji called Kei by her first name, and I'm pretty sure that was his first time
Nice reaction ! The anime lacks some important explanations about why Ryueen wanted to drop out. In the LN, after the incident Ryueen threatens Ayanokoji to say it was him who started all of this and put the responsability on him as they are the injured ones here. But Ayanokoji says that he was seen on the cameras at the Keyaki Mall at the moment the camera was destroyed in the gym so he had an alibi (this is the entire reason why he was with his friends before going to save Kei). On top of this he has witnesses who can testify if necessary (Manabu and the teacher). If Ayanokoji wanted to, he could easily sacrifice his and Kei's secrets and tell everything about what happened here, combined with the testimony of Manabu and the teacher, it would result in the expulsion of the four of them, so class C is at an overwhelming disadvantage. That's why Ryueen tried to take all the responsability and drop out. But he was stopped by the fact class D took responsability for the cameras and also the fact that Albert and Ishizaki were ready to drop out if ryueen were to drop out, blackmailing him into staying the school.
And about the ending with Sakayanagi, in the LN it happened right after the sports festival, Sakayanagi saying the she remembered Ayanokoji immediately by seeing him running. He said she must be mistaken and was about to leave when she talked about the "White Room". Hearing those words, he felt shock for the first time in the LN. He couldn't believe she knew about his past.
The part about Ibuki having a weak grip makes more sense in the Light Novel, as Ayonokouji choke-slams her into the ground in the fight instead of just karate chopping her
When he said “I’m still there” he meant that he was still thinking the way he usually would in the white room
ibuki had injuries in light novel..they were not visible though i mean in light novel ayanokoji grabbed ibuki's neck and slammed her into the ground but whereas in anime he knocked out ibuki with a chop to the neck.. they just did not changed ryuen and ibuki's convo in which he said "is it because of your injuries"....
and he didnt even smile till now in the light novel in which literally more than half of the year 2 has passed
From what I remember, the girls in the class did say Ayanokoji is like the 2nd or 3rd most attractive guy in the class, he’s just seen as an dull, cold, and unapproachable.
From these comments, it seems like The light novel ayanakouji is written so much better and more enjoyably complex.

The most energetic reaction I have seen, relates to how I act when I watch anime and get excited 😊 I ship them and hope their relationship evolves and that she is the one that makes him smile.

I didn't even think about it until you mentioned it, but yeah, the line about Ibuki's injuries makes no sense in the context of the anime version because Kiyotaka barely did anything to her beyond gently knocking her out.
After this episode I don’t think he’s a sociopath as much anymore it’s more so he’s learning how to have a personality and learning about himself through his relationship with Kei
Good episode, but to be honest, it's a bit disappointing, because in LN Kiyotaka and Kei's parts are filled with romantic and refreshing scenes, but the studio turned it bad as if Kiyotaka was just using Kei. I think they want to make the ending like the first season (a tool monologue). But yknow, actually Kiyotaka wasn't that evil, at that moment he wanted to feel emotions with Kei as his partner, and said Kei would be an important figure for him in the future. But still peak episode!
Also, i really like the fact that Ryuen is trying to get himself drop out and doesn't want to involve the others (Ishizaki, Albert, and Ibuki). Ryuen is a dictator, but he always prioritizes his class. That's why he's the best villain in the series!

when in reality he does *feel* emotions, he just can't express them outwardly so no one can tell what he's thinking, and his tool mentality likely stems from his White Room trauma, for him to even call Kei by her first name is enough to show that he at least WANTS to abandon this tool mentality but that same mentality is what's helping him overcome the obstacles in his way, he's basically trying to drop an old habit that's been drilled into him for his entire life

If you guys are wondering, Ayanokoji only smiled One time in the whole Light Novel but if you count a grin as a smile then I guess he smiled two times.
Ayanokoji accepted Sato's invitation to go on a date bcos he wanted to judge her worth. He wanted to see if she's as competent as Karuizawa in terms of wit/sharpness or if she can replace Karuizawa's role as the leader of Class D's girls. Obviously, the result of his judgement is as clear as day w his answer to Sato's confession.
Hypothetically, let's just say Sato can replace Karuizawa's role. IF that happens then I think he'll accept Sato's confession. The Ayanokoji rn is imo experimenting with what and how he'll move forward w his school life, so if only he deems Sato (or any other characters) worthy then he's ok w them. It just so happen that Karuizawa is that person atm.
There's already a lot of LN related comments here, but I wanna point how the translation/subs on the muse asia version is definitely the better one, for the "unworthy to smile for line" in muse asia it went like this "It's not that I can't smile, I'm just not good enough to do so. That's because I'll judge myself that way" it shows more as to how he just dont know how to express his emotions, rather than seeing sato unworthy of his smile, All I'm saying watching the muse asia version didnt made me feel like he was an edgelord, he was already straightforward to sato as to why he cant date her, That's all I wanna say, you might wanna watch the Muse Asia version of this if you wanna see it in a different pov and I think its more accurate to the ln, i was actually suprised as to how the subs are like that, personally i always think that version of subs is better than muse asia, but seems like muse asia got the better one this episode lol

Well showing Ayano being cold af with satou was a very anime-kinda thing since anime's been portraying him as a cold-hearted fella without emotions ,but in LN he was pretty chilled abt it and actually used more words to reject satou's proposal , he even said that he would always remember her as the first girl who showed interest in him and had the guts to confess her feelings ...
Ayano calling Kei by her first name was more dramatic in LN ,anime kinda ruined it for me due to being too straightforward like even Kei's reaction was plain lmao
It actually ended on a gud note and by giving a last minute confrontation between Ayano & Arisu ,they legit created a pretty decent hype for s3 ...
They changed the whole promise thing with Manabu ,which ig is a shame cuz i was looking forward to the convo between Ayano ,Ryuuen & Manabu ,but that promise he made in LN wouldn't have made sense cuz it was related to nagumo and we weren't shown anything abt him lol
Ayano literally went to watch a movie alone ,like before his date and other stuff ,and met Ibuki there ,in LN that interaction was just hilarious plus she challenged him for a rematch and Ayano clapped her again lol
Overall it was a good wrap up ,not sayin s2 outdid s1 ,no i don't think so personally ,but the last two eps literally carried this one at least

I know Ayanokouji seems like to be a very cold and smart charactere in general, but this time I think we saw how his rational way of thinking can outplay himself, espacially when it comes to his realtionship with Kei:
In fact, Ayanokouji planned to "bond" Kei on himself with his actions, but he thinks it worked out because she is depending on him and his protection still to this moment. Altough, we, the audience, know that Kei wants "to be used" by him, because she developed feelings for Ayanokoiji.
In Ayanokoujis eyes it probably would not make sense for Kei to love him after what he did to her. But beliefing she's still depending on him and underestimating her character developement could possible surprise him in the future, for example if she gets tired to chase after him and choose to continue her life without him because she now has the self confidence to act on her own because of Ayanokouji

the anime's trying its best to make Ayanokoji look like an absolute cruel entity and Ryuuen a tamed dog. The lines they used/changed/removed are very misleading to the point that it doesn't adhere to their actual personality.

Kinda irritating that people read the LN keep on saying that they are disappointed in the way that they adapt or skipped some part of COTE and some people talking about the animation. Like bro despite all of that it is still good, sure it lacks of information (for LN readers) but come on just be thankful because after all these years of waiting its finally animated. Those information that they didn't use atleast you have some extra information that you know or know some scene that wasn't in the anime. (For LN readers)

I don't think this is a grand spoiler because it was just an extra chapter in the light novel but ayanokoji technically had 2 dates before this one. Both of them were with ibuki and they were the funniest accidental dates I've ever seen.

Ayanokouji is so ruthless in the anime lols, in the LN he is way more complex, the anime only adapted his white room persona while disregarding Ayanokouji's caring side (especially to Kei) and Kiyo sometimes second- guess/ contradicts himself.

The first arc will be Volume 8 in the novel. Here we'll see the rivalry between Horikita Manabu (The former Student Council President) and Nagumo Miyabi, the blond guy who was the current SCP. Nagumo is a Second Year student from Class 2A and there's no one in his School Year who can be his opponent that's why he's going for Manabu as he wanted to surpass him. You could say that he's the undefeated tyrant of the 2nd Year. He will also target Ayanokoji coz he also notices that his Manabu Senpai took an interest to Ayanokoji instead of him.
We'll also see Sakayanagi Arisu finally making her moves as she will targets Ichinose and Class B. Here we'll know Ichinose's past and how she got that many points.
And for the final arc, as you can see in the last scene, it will be Ayanokoji VS Arisu. Arisu is the only student who knows Ayanokoji's past. A natural born genius unlike Ayanokoji who was made to be genius. Nature vs Nurture. So who do you think will going to win? I cant wait for the next season.

I suggest reading the light novels if you like reading, because watching only anime makes you miss 60% of the story. Season 2 is 5 books volume 4.5 - 7.5 if I'm correct.
