My daughter is 11, she always gets to opens 1 box if grades are good and she keeps 2 sealed. She has the entire SwSh era and half of the sun and moon era. She loves collecting her era and I love collecting mint vintage for her to have when I'm dead. Pokemon is supposed to be about the love
I always wondered whats the best way to store that much product stacked like that. Wouldn't the weight effect the integrity of the bottom boxes over time. I assume you store them in a controlled environment with humidity ect... how do you keep them from getting crushed under that weight?

Im not opening no more english cards until they get their Quality control in order with centering and whitening on the corners its gotten so bad it discouraging me. Ill just keep buying Japanese version so much better

A few months prior I was at 7/11 and they had a booster box of Brilliant Stars and I thought the last time I opened a pack of Pokemon my parents bought it for me, now I have around 50k worth of Pokemon, no debt incurred because of it and it's not to flip or sell but because that day brought me back so I keep them and appreciate them and share them so take it easy spicy pants we're not all fair weather fans.
I've been a tcg game player for over 30 years at this point and I still have yet to see anyone buy pokemon boosters or even play the damn game in front of me at many different metro cities from st. louis to denver to houston to seattle my kid like the silly cartoon but he should he is five years old i tried teaching him the pokemon game after buying a trainer box for two players and he had no interest he wanted to learn magic because his dad plays it so magic is what he has learned to play I don't think I will in my life time see someone play those damn cards do people just collect them for shits and giggles? I know they have high production rates so is the market just buying them all and never playing them? that means a lot of cards are mint meaning not great for collecting so what the fuck is really going on?
Evolutions was the first set I "invested in". In 2018 I saw them and couldn't believe how cheap they were. To me the set was pure gold so I bought a couple of boxes. I'm glad that I did and since 2018 when I discovered your channel I've been continuously building up my position in both Magic and mainly Pokémon.

The Pokemon Company honestly put out some of the best products they ever have over the last two years, not even including the japanese stuff, my god that's a whole 'nother level. The main sets are still fun to open (mostly), and the special/premium sets have been homeruns pretty much every time. It's crazy how well they've been running the company, and all they did was give people the shit they fucking wanted

Pokemon company deserves respect and credit. They even opened a new Simplified-Chinese version business in mainland China, during the worst time there. Millions of Chinese people became Pokemon TCG fans in their post-covid situation. PSA just started their business in mainland China, too. You can expect a huge potential market there, as well as for English version.
I switched from Magic to Pokemon in 07, best decision I ever made! The local market is much more abundant, making the product much more liquid I find. Lately with all the issues with MTG, Pokemon has been smooth sailing!

I think the prices stay this high because of the time and effort they put into making the hype go on for new generations. I see this with my own son. The kids all know pokemon from TV and love to buy cards, they will be the ones buying them in 30-40 years, for insane prices. They already hear stories of insanely expensive charizards, so they look up the value of each card they pull online right away. When you look at Dragon ball z for example nobody had heard of it in my son’s class, until they put something in it in Fortnite. A collaboration deal. Also these cards are less popular even though my son likes DBZ more now that i introduced him to the anime series. MTG is missing this kind of content and i think that’s what’s making it less popular among younger players these days. Which is a shame, because they will in time be the ones that will keep playing it and buying more cards each year, once they get hooked.
i think the main difference between how Pokémon handled things compared to how other tcgs handled things is Pokémon recognized that the 2020-2021 market was temporary and did not go off the rails like the other companies did. they printed tons of product to beat back the scalpers but they combined that with increasing set sizes, introducing new types of cards, and reducing pull rates to prevent their efforts from crashing the singles market. had they crashed the singles market then the market for all their products would have crashed as a result and pokemon would be in the same position as all the other tcgs so them taking these measures to protect that market were what saved them.
I would say a wise move right there. I am so very new to Pokémon myself, though, and I am in my 40`s. I started with Astral Radiance. Love your content by the way :)
So I saw the recent bull in a poke shop video where you got a load of the dip right now (August 23)....its so interesting to watch a similar video here from 8 months ago. The narrative layers on how these sets prices fluctuate....you mentioned Chilling Reign 2nd re-print here and on someone elses video they explained with hindsight that CR suffered mainly due to the fact it released just before Evolving Skies, but actually the hits are great and the market just wasn't there for it at the time. Then you have the over-arching narratives of Pokemon itself and the trends you see. Truly interesting stuff. Its fun to retrospectively see these narratives....and to hear Rudy make stupid noises and tell his anecdotes.

Fusion strike and Chilling reign were around $88 like 4 months ago now theyre both over $110ish Brilliant Stars was $100 for a Booster Box when it launched and now is pushing $200, somethings are easier to predict than others, for example they Celebrations UPC (Ultra Premium Collection) launched at $150 I think and its going for $350+ now, so when the Charizard UPC launched last month or 3 months ago whenever it was I shelled out the $225 or whatever and now its going for $90 sealed from some places lmao! You never can tell lol
@ycw45 yeah it's weird that it didn't have a metal card when the Celebrations UPC did, the Arceus UPC had 2 metal cards, and the 2018 Sword and Shield UPC (the black one) had metal cards as well. An Umbreon UPC would be amazing, I would love a metal version of the Alt art from Evolving Skies or the Gold Star from Pop Series 5

I didnt realize retailers spent 90$ on TCG boxes. I had always assumed the margins were at least 50% for card games. A lot smaller then I had figured.
