Love that this felt like more of a conversation than an interview. Being a fly on the wall while such experienced artisans talk shop is such a privilege.
What a wonderful conversation. I was glued from start to finish. Kirby your conversation in these pieces since I started watching you two years ago has come on leaps and bounds. It was always very good, but now one of the reasons I think these work so well is you hold a wonderful flow with the dialogue and relationship with whoever you’re talking to.
Thank you very much. Very kind of you to say Mark
Agreed 100%
You have a an underappreciated knack for conversational interviewing which is very disarming and allows your subjects to open up, and which many a seasoned interviewer would be envious of. Keep em coming!
What a interesting conversation. Two very true gents, that show their wealth of experience. What a wonderful tailoring house.
Terry's making a suit for me and I've just finished my third fitting on their last US trip. I have never looked better in a suit. Terry's very cordial and easy to chat with. I've noticed that both he and John have a very perceptible change in demeanor when they're talking about tailoring minutiae . They get serious and contemplative as if doing a hundred calculations in their head, it's how you would expect two masters of their craft to speak about their area of expertise. Thanks for making this profile of them.
Thank you for your comment. They seem to be easy to work with. Are you in the US. Is there lead time about 12 to 18 months.
@@allenwinston9225 I am based in the US and they visit New York a few times during the year. Their turnaround time depends on getting the fittings done and the fit right. So if you’re waiting for their US trunk shows, about 12 months to 18 months, or about 3-4 fittings, that should be a reasonable expectation.
@@BenjaminAbrahamNYC Thank you. I will make an appointment.
Great interview with two very humble and gracious men. Nice to see them complementing other tailors’ work.
Wow! Kirby this episode is surely one of the best you've done in London, really outstanding and with great tailors! Furthermore the references to Ian Fleming/Bond and the turn-back sleeves(also as seen on Sean Connery's tuxedo in the film Dr.No created by Anthony Sinclair of Conduit street) was a delight, not to mention Terry's cocktail cuff blue shirt a la Terence Young! It surely would have been nice for you to pop in to Mason&Sons who have taken over the legacy of Anthony Sinclair's tailoring for the Bond movies of the sixties, perhaps next time. A real pleasure to start the new year right, many thanks.
You keep on amazing me with the amount of quality interviews you do. The quality of people and products your channel represents.
Wow, thank you!
Once the D.O.J. releases my passport I will definitely want you to be my guide on England
I could watch these types of videos all day. Love them. Thanks for doing this
Dear Kirby,
it is always a pleasure watching your videos: your expertise and the calmness there’s so people can freely talk and answer your questions.
Well done!
Cheers from Milano!
L
Two real characters chatting in a natural interview style. Well done all 3
There's isn't anything these gents don't know about tailoring. You can just tell. What a gem to find on my commute home from work 👏👏
Truly enjoyed this episode. Lovely to hear the experience and enthusiasm of these skilled guys.Long may they continue. I hope to visit for a consultation in 2022.
Terry made a classic double breasted suit for me in 1990 and I asked about buttons and he joked yes there will be buttons! Bone buttons, inverted pleats and silk lining made for a beautiful suit. An absolute master in his craft!
They seem like two very genuine, nice gentlemen.
They certainly are!
They are so grounded amd humble and this is why yheir customers love them. Add to that their name and they dont try to overcharge. I wish all businesses were like this.
So grateful for these interviews, and I think the conversational nature of them is much better than a structured Q & A style. I can only imagine how busy your last trip to London was!
No wonder John Kent has been at the top for all these years,He still has the insight for the moving times and all the right combos not stuck in a time warp ,Brilliant what a credit to his trade .
i couldn't have enjoyed this more, easy conversation, very nice and gentlemanly.
Great energy these two have, will consider them when commissioning a suit in London next. Thanks Kirby!
Kirby this is a wonderful interview. I loved the way it seemed like you just casually dropped by to see these two talented men. Well done. Best wishes.
Amazing interview with real characters! I’d love to have them make me something.
Most of the tailors on and off the row are real characters. The owners of Richard Anderson are real characters. Roger Ramroop at Maurice Sedwell is a true gentleman.
One of the best interviews you've done Kirby, right up there with the one with Alan Flusser, which had been my favorite. This one was you at your best.
Very kind words Jack. Thank you
Lovely video and wonderful that real gents like this are given the time and respect they deserve for their passion and craftsmanship. Very well done.
Great video, one of the best Saville Row interview so far. I'll never forget "from sublime to cor blimey!"
Great video Kirby!
I have to say, out of all your accomplishments, my favorite is your uncanny ability to get so many of these great craftsmen to open up so candidly and gregariously. These interviews are very disarming, but so packed with info, in spite of feeling so “light.” Cheers
Thanks, Matt!

Dear Kirby,
Excellent conversation! I'm always impressed with your knowledge of cloth and bespoke tailoring details. I am glad to see you go beyond Savile Row and introduce us to some of the true artisans of tailoring. Really nice work Kirby 👏
A real, sartorial treat to hear so much wisdow from such bespoke legends.
this channel is heading into the right direction by preserving some of the history of artisanry for the future generations. this is what youtube is made for. beautiful content creates itself if talented people are willing to share their story.
I wish there were tons of instructional videos on this topic. I want so badly to learn this art form. Unfortunately I can’t justify quitting my job and interning somewhere without pay for a decade to learn. I’ve been considering just learning from scratch with trial and error.
What a great insight I hope this never becomes a dying trade like so many other artisan, thanks
What a beautiful heartwarming conversation. Thank you 😊
Again a great Video Kirby, I certainly love this tailor duo!
A question that I have asked myself the last few days is what kind of dances a real gentleman should be able to perform? Would be very interesting to hear your opinion on this topic.
Kirby- There's a tailor in Montreal Canada you should meet. His name is Rudolph Popradi. He makes absolutely the entire suit hand-stitched including button holes. He was trained in Hungary but his master was trained on Saville Row.
120 years or so of experience between these two, is there anything they haven't seen or done in the bespoke tailoring world? Love how cluttered the back room was, getting work done in there. Great compliments from John, if a tailor of his stature is so effusive in his praise, you know absolutely top notch tailoring has been done.
Loved this, always makes me feel like going in and getting one made. Wish I could’ve given it two thumbs up, lovely gentlemen.
Kirby...you're tips are great. I dusted off my dad's tux who had it commissioned, in London, in 1969. I have a black-tie even coming up and the videos have been very helpful. You're bowtie video got my bowtie tied in 5 min, fantastic! Many thanks :)
Terry Haste is making me some trousers currently; Feb 24…they are very nice people in the shop.
This was really interesting. Thank you for taking the effort to do this and posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful way to start the new year!
That's incredibly high praise for Divij Hemrajani (I believe the tailor for this suit?)--great to see young people excelling at their craft!
Terry is what us Londoners call absolute Mustard, made me a lovely Cadbury purple two piece back in 90’s still have it today, fantastic condition, mark of a fine tailor. Bravo keep up the good work Terry and John the Desert Eagle👏 xx
Not gonna lie whenever i end up going to london again for a visit i absolutely would love to pass by and get something made by those gents. Greetings from Athens!
I really enjoyed this, I'm sat in my little tailors shop watching this when I should be working.
Looks like if you want to have a bespoke suit, it is no point to look elsewhere, because quality, tradition and classic attitude is there even with better price than other tailors have. So Terry and John are ultimate solution for gentlemen, who has money for bespoke suit and want to have best price as well. Of course it is really tempting to try other tailors as well, but once you try everything and want to choose just one stable tailor, Haste and Kent are the obvious choice, if you can get on a same tone with those great men. London is such a ultimate city for people, who love luxury and tradition. I really like it and can´t wait to visit the Rules restaurant for the first time. I am about to do it sometimes during this year.
Endlessly interesting. Could watch and listen all day.
Anderson and Sheppard + Huntsman + Nutters + Hawes & Curtis = Kent Haste & Lachter. Really can't get anything better
What a brilliant video Kirby, of all the places you visited this seemed to be the most warmest and relaxed. loved it would call on them for sure real gents this has went to top for sure happy new year from Ireland
Great video! So the question now is: who is Kirby’s tailor?
There are different ones if I'm not mistaken. Hemrajani, Eric Jensen (Sartoria Gallo), Alan Flusser, and others.
These kinds of stories are the best of this channel.
Excellent video. And now I must watch Sunset Boulevard, lol.
Thank you for video Kirby. Happy New Year 😁😁👍👍😁😁👍👍
Same to you!
Happy New Year Kirby and to all the other gentleman here. Greetings from Germany
Happy new year!
Great interview to start off the New Year! By the way, who made Terry Haste's beautiful cocktail cuff shirt?
Might have been Frank Foster's of London. ?!
From their website: "The shirtmaker Stephen Lachter is based at the same premises as Kent & Haste." Stephen was a co-founder of their business, so I expect he makes most (or all) of their dress shirts.
Enjoyable conversation.
I must say Kirby, I’ve always enjoyed dressing well and appropriately for the occasion however, after watching your videos I’ve stepped up my game a bit more and truly enjoy the feeling of proper clothing in all aspects.
The last part of your conversation really hit on a pet peeve I have with how the general public dresses today!
For example, my Fiancée and I were invited to an upscale steakhouse in North Scottsdale last Wednesday for an early dinner, and I chose to wear a three button sport coat with a tweed waistcoat, dark blue dress slacks and tie…appropriate for I’d say a Wednesday evening. But more than a half dozen couples or small family groups walked in wearing shorts and tennis shoes!!!
It’s just ridiculous that people could care less about their attire these days and more disturbing that this establishment doesn’t have or enforce a dress code (probably mid/post pandemic when businesses are struggling they are afraid to offend or turn business away).
I applaud your charge to keep good style alive!
Happy New Year Sir.
I see the same problem here in California. For Christmas Eve I wore my mid-gray maroon alternating white stripe suit with pp oxford Brooks Brother shirt and candy cane Christmas tie and looked smashing. Stopping by several high
-end department stores in BH before I boarded a plane to see relatives in AZ I had several coming up to me people come up.to me thinking I was the store manager and not just a customer. Got lots of compliments but the actual employees looked very underdessed for working at Nieman-Marcus, Nordstrom, etc. I refuse to look like an overgrown teenager and if I was a customer at the steakhouse when you were there we would have been kindred spirits! Dont give up looking elegant!
Happy New Year Sir
thanks for the game changing show
Kirby,
Love the video. Thank you for my anglophile tailoring fix. These are such a pleasure to watch and I feel like I learn something new with every tailor you talk to. You were given several compliments concerning your suit. Are you wearing a Divij Bespoke suit in this video? Would love to know what tailor is being complimented so much by such an experienced tailor as John Kent.
It was indeed a Divij Bespoke suit
Would love to see an interview at Meyer and Mortimer
After watching this delightful conversation don't you to wish that those 2 gentlemen tailors can make you a suit with the turn Up sleeves 😃
It was great to listen to you, John - very interesting - thank you! John Howden Richards
An excellent chat with the experts.......!
Will be there in December.
Would have been interesting for a "first timer" to have an idea of production times, especially if one doesn't reside in London and also a costing range.
Wonderful and, more importantly, a useful interview.
The compliment at the end was classy.
What a wonderful video Kirby
Great interview - lovely people. I own one bespoke suit that I had made for my daughter's wedding, and then I wore an off the peg suit instead - and the bespoke sits sadly in the wardrobe years later, never worn.
The kind of gentleman that wear Patek Philippe Calatravas.
Just wonderful humble gentlemen. All three! haha.
Great interview :)
Happy New Year
These guys couldn't be any cooler if they tried. I've seen John Kent on the Savile Row documentary on the digitalworks51 YT channel. Fascinating guy.
Kirby Hope you and your channel have a great 2022. Have you ever thought of having a pop shop in London of all your products.
I mean a pop up shop.
Superb. Thank you.
So who did make Mr. Allison's suit? I must agree that it is fabulous.
This video from Kirby will answer your question! ua-cam.com/video/W--YO2Nl8j0/v-deo.html
You need to get these guys to make you the Holden (sunset boulevard) overcoat Kirby
Happy New Year! This was such a nice interview--relaxed, natural, organic--with wonderful people. A question: what is the story behind Mr. Haste sewing a button in the intro? That was never detailed in the video.
Ha. Yeah. Well, the braces buttons on my trousers were coming undone. They offered to resew them on… and did so while I was wearing the trousers!
Wonderful
I absolutely love watching these vidios even though I could never afford bespoke.... I wish I could... thses two are smashing guys if I could afford bespoke these would be my tailors of choice even though any tailor in or around Saville Row are truly amazing craftsmen these two just come over so friendly and easy-going plus HRH Duke of Edinburgh was my favourite royal if these guys were good enough for HRH they'll do for me.... RIP SIR WE REALLY DO MISS YOU WHIT AND HUMOUR 🙏😊
The guys checking out his suit when they first meet 😄
Kirby you don't list your suit maker under what is Kirby weraing and the tailoring house just gave the suit maker huge props!
Life is temporary swag is eternal
Kirby
Why all the solid, stolid blues and grays. My Savile Row suits are alternating two color pin stripes and glenardt plaids. I will save my stolid colors for ready to wear Hickey Fteeman and HSM, If I am going to pay 6-7000 dollars for a bespoke suit I want one the separates me from the dull and unimaginative suit criwd!
Great interview, what is their timescales to measure and have the suit ready? I would like to pop along when I’m next in London
Elegance galore 🎩🎩🎩
Great episode!!
Fascinating conversation! Much of which I imagine was fueled by the deep knowledge these three share about all things proper in addition to the tremendous amount of ketamine Mr. Allison so generously offers before each shoot! Tremendous content per usual.
I found that very interesting.
Im shattered how young men look today, shoddy,
un kept and I'm glad I'm not looking for a husband!!!
Love your channel and Trent and Heath,Oxford shoes.Keep the info coming,a book next!
It’s to do with the 60s it was a deceptive plot to break down society with drugs, rebellion and demoralisation disguised as freedom loads of generations have been broken down to this “freedom” but if you go to most respectable areas in london you would be suprised how well dressed most people are even the old men wear suits.
22:00 Sunset Boulevard Overcoat Reference
rocking the vicuna !
I own about 15 ready to wear suits, 10 custom, But now I want to move into a bespoke suit. Any suggestions for a Taylor out in the west coast Mr. Allison?
I really like your youtube channel and I would love it if you did a series of episodes, maybe filmed in Italy, on made in Italy and going to find the best tailors and emerging ones in my country. Greetings.
That's the plan for the future! We are very keen to get to film more in both France and Italy. It is just a matter of the cost sadly. This is one of the reasons we started the Patreon page, as so far all of our videos are self funded, so we simply cannot travel all over the world just yet.
Hey Kirby, great video! I would love to see a video with Tom Mahon some time.
We have one we’re editing right now!
@@kirbyallison You never fail to impress, Kirby!
Why is there nothing you can do alterations wise to ready to wear? Im keen to know why
Nice RuneScape font in header
Spot the syrup!
How do you stay fit? I’d love to know your health and fitness routine
one simply must scuff a foxes button before lilting the holding pip.
When will the suit be shown Kirby ????'''
who made the suit you are wearing Kirby?
Good on ya Kirby.
Peter Kent looks like an old Eddie Marsan Ive just realised that
Great video. Maybe my favourite from the channel!
