He was afraid going into the rematch with Arguello because Panama Lewis had been arrested and put in jail at the time, and he was the guy who trained him for the first fight, and even though he never admitted it in so many words, he told me that they were basically getting by with some kind of things that were not legal. So I said, “Well, I will show you how to beat Alexis, but we will beat him by using technique and then you won’t be hit by all those big punches. Now that both McKinley and Resto have both said the exact same thing, there's a lot less doubt about what was in the bottle. "It was ONLY asthma medication to help him breathe not steroids". Oh that's fine then. First of all who on earth would seriously think it was steroids? That would be pointless and have no immediate benefit at all. Luis Resto (a Panama Lewis fighter) already exposed all this because he was given the same mix as Pryor. He said when he was exhausted in a fight, Lewis gave him the asthma meds mix and his lungs opened right up alright as McKinley said. What McKinley neglected to tell you was the EFFECT it has. Resto said that when his lungs blasted open, he felt better than he had in round one !!! Think about that for a second. After a gruelling war of attrition it's like taking one fighter out of the ring and replacing him with one that's not even started and then setting him on the exhausted fighter. That is absolutely disgraceful and downright dangerous. That is cheating of the highest order. As soon as Pryor took that "Mix" Arguello was doomed. The result should be struck from the record books. Who knows what Pryor was on in the rest of the fight as he took tremendous shots to body and head and came out for the next round as if nothing had happened. Maybe he was taking the mix earlier in the fight as well. Either way he had a HUGE advantage. I was a massive fan of Pryor at the time and was pulling for him against the great Arguello (Who was challenging for his 4th title in different weight divisions). Looking back at Pryor's fights after the Resto documentary it all started to make sense. This was far from the first time that Pryor had fought at an inhuman pace. Look at his fight against Dujuan Johnson for example. Against Johnson he looked even more manic than against Arguello. When knocked down he bounced back up like a rubber ball as he had previously, in a way we hadn't seen anyone do before, bouncing up and down like crazy impatient for the referee to get out of his way so he could resume his manis attack. The pace he set was faster than Henry Armstrong !!! That was what made him so unique. But always nagging at the back of my mind was the fact that he was not known to be one of the sport's hardest trainers, so maybe it was some kind of amphetamine based drug mix he was on. When you look at him as an amateur against a young Tommy Hearns ( before he'd grown into his power), Pryor showed clear signs of fatigue. Arm weary and blowing hard. Admirably he won the fight against a very young and coltish Tommy. I always wondered how come he turned into this superhuman turbo charged dynamo as a professional who now never seemed to get tired. But hey I was a fan so I dismissed my suspicions to the back of my mind. After the Resto documentary I spoke to a friend who was a professional cyclist (a sport where the amount of "asthmatics" who are on these meds is massively higher than average. Join the dots.) . This friend of mine told me that the effects are absolutely massive and described just what Resto had said. So to dismiss this as no big deal, just a little something to help Pryor breathe, that's all, is nonsense , a clear whitewashing of events to clear McKinley's friend's reputation and an insult to the memory of the great Arguello, who I had the privilege of meeting and was a true gentleman. The way McKinley minimised what Panama Lewis did to Resto's gloves, again is a disgusting insult to the memory of young Billy Collins whose career was finished by the gloves that Lewis tampered with. Billy, an excellent young fighter never fought again due to the horrific damage inflicted by Resto's gloves. He sank into deep depression, heavy drinking to numb the pain and may have actually meant to crash his car deliberately in the accident that resulted in his death. It's all in the Resto documentary where he tells all after his release from prison. We loved Pryor. There was even talk of him moving up to fight Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran. But his legacy is in tatters and anyone with a sense of justice who loves the sport is sickened by whole sorry episode which caused so much tragedy I it's aftermath. Don't be fooled by McKinley. He's minimising these events to whitewash the reputation of his old friend who was nothing more than a criminal and an enemy of the sport. And so, by the way was my former hero Aaron Pryor.

    • @ryand141
      @ryand141 Рік тому +2

      I complete agree. Somebody said, but it just helped him breath easier. So I said, well it's like giving one guy a hammer at the end of the 13th round against the other guy who is extremely tired. Pryor was luck because he could've easily killed Arguello at the end of that fight with the amount of damage he was inflicting by line you said 'a frenzied, super-human attack. Disgusting. Should be erased from the records.....and the promoters know exactly what's going on. Don't tell me they don't know....the fat scumbags they are.

    • @constantine7382
      @constantine7382 9 місяців тому +1

      He was taking the mix as early as the third round and I DON'T believe that's all he was taking. IF that was it, then why did he refuse to take a post fight urine test?
      pryor was overrated as Hell and KNEW he wasn't going to beat Arguello. For those that think the cheating didn't matter, look at his record. He was DROPPED at least by Cervantes, Johnson and Kameda. Yet Arguello barely made him blink. His biggest fights were against two aging legends. He got dropped by Cervantes and had to cheat to beat Arguello. After that, who did he fight. Gataan Hart? Nick Furlano? Gary Hinton? The last two were average fighters and went 15 with this " killer." No, something CLEARLY went on there and only the weakness of the boxing commissions, WBC version, kept Arguello from his just due.

      I totally agree. Arguello was known to be very effective in championship rounds. That’s why he insisted the fight to be a 15 round fight. On the other hand, Pryor had not fought past 10 rounds. Nobody knew how he would fare in those championship rounds. (But, I must say I was amazed that Pryor was not demolished by that sharp and powerful Arguello straight right. Arguello was a damaged fighter as a result from 1st fight Emmanuel Steward said "second fight with Alexis Arguello and Arron Pryor, when Pryor asked me to train him. You know, you’re not going to come to me at the end of the round and where I’ll have something to give you in the drink. We’re going beat him by using different types of techniques.”

    With all due respect i feel like Stacey is either lying or hiding something.
    I was asthmatic back in 1980. Back then asthmatics were given Ventolin (salbutamol or albuterol). Yes, salbutamol is water soluble, but it's a phenylethanolamine; it's a downer.
    Downers don't make you as hype as Aaron was in that last round, sorry people i don't believe the capping going on. Basic logic will tell you this.
    I continue to believe Aaron was given a shot of amphetamines in that bottle. Amphetamines are also water soluble and they're uppers. They give euphoria through goosing your body's dopamine circulation. Why do you think Aaron came flying out that corner dancing while he was throwing all those shots? That's speed talking to ya. Come on ppl, don't lie to us we're not dumb.
    Panama Lewis was known for doing sneaky shit with his boxers and he's directly responsible for the ruin and or death of quite a few of his fighter's ops. I don't believe for 1 second that fighters in his corner were only given legal drugs. They used whatever they could get away with.
    As a side note, the country Panama in the 70s and 80s was a direct route for cocaine to move between Colombia and both Texas and Miami. Aaron ended up addicted to crack after the Arguello fight, so clearly something he got from Lewis put him on to uppers and he took it from there.
    It's a damn shame when you find out people you looked up to as a kid were on some snake shit, but that goes to show you do not worship famous people. They're human too and human beings do some reprehensible shit sometimes

But I was privileged to watch it as a young man, and from what I saw that night I'll always remember it. Aaron Pryor took tremendous shots from Alexis Arguello that would have flattened any fighter, and yet he just kept coming, unbelievably. Arguello was definitely winning the fight when Pryor comes out in the last 2 rounds just throwing punches from all angles with the energy of a rejuvenated man. He just pummeled Arguello in those last 2 rounds. Pryor may have won the rematch even faster as you said, but the damage was already done to Alexis Arguello in the first fight, he was clearly a beaten fighter after that first fight.
