Nice job Bro, I am older and agree there was (or used to be) great local bands and live music. My friends in the music scenes are trying everything to get out there - but times are tough. I love live music and seeing the bands play, but as you said - we just can't place what will happen. Take care.......

Thanks! It is getting tough out there. I wish I could have been a part of the scene when it was huge back in the day. That would have been fun a lot of fun.

Thanks, It's hard to not get too negative talking about it, but I think it's an important conversation to have.

Online dating really killed live Music. Even people in their 40's, 50's, and 60's are meeting mostly online. Younger people are more into beat music. I mean, you can pay a band $1500, or you can pay a DJ $1,000 that will actually get more people onto a dance floor. A guy that I play in a band with is a DJ. Our band is a hobby because there's no money to he made compared to the type of money he makes as a DJ. He doesn't even like most of the hip hop or pop music he plays. I've heard him joke around and say "if you would have told me I could make a couple grand doing sound for a wedding 30 years ago, I'd laugh myself to sleep." He litterally will show up at a gig with equipment that will fit in his Toyota Rav-4 and make a doctor's wage with music that will fit on a thumb drive. What a stupid world we live in lol

Yep. You can dj for $400 solo at a small bar or a full band gets $600....for 5 people
I run sound for bands and will show up with just my ipad at a venue and make more than the individual members of band often times. :/

Spanish speaking communities in the US don't have this issue with live gigs. I wonder how much of this stuff is done differently than how you mentioned it's being done.

Interesting. From what I see online, live local music is still very alive in Mexico maybe that carries over to the families in the US.

Yes, cost of bars is just insane for young people. At least in California (LA area), the average cost of a beer at a local bar is $6~8 bucks. That's not the same for the whole country, I know, but that really kills the whole idea of hanging out at a bar. Another factor is younger people have a hard time getting together at all, even at each others residents much less a bar. Most just want to stay at home and not hang out for whatever reason. Hanging out or going out is competing with online entertainment bottom line.
I'm just going to bullet point the rest of my thoughts on this
-When encountering cover bands in the wild, they're usually older men around 50 or 60 years old. I'm not trying to hate on older people but that's not exactly a plus in garnering a younger audience. If this is the case, they will be accompanied by a setlist of old songs that are not young audience friendly either
-Live music is just too loud. Bars with music over PA is also too loud. This is a common complaint I've heard from my peers. I agree with that too. Bars are just too loud for people to hold conversations. This is a plus for bands with e-kit and modelers imo.
-One more issue I've come across with my cover band, we can't find good music to play as a band that was made past the year 2010. We've looked, and we've looks some more, not a lot of pop material that's suitable for a cover band. The majority of pop music in the last decade has been EDM or rap that's just not conducive to the setlist of a live band.

Absolutely, I'm right there with you!
Navigating the volume issue can be a bit tricky. It's like there's this expectation for bars and bands to crank up the decibels, maybe a holdover from the glory days of the 80s and 90s. While that high-energy, arena-like atmosphere has its place, it can be a bit of a downer when you're just trying to relax with friends over some drinks.
And you're spot on about the music scene lately-it hasn't always been easy for guitar bands to find the modern tunes to keep the crowd going. That's why we've decided to mix things up by incorporating some modern country into our setlist. It's been a hit with the crowd, adding a fresh almost rock songs to our performances!

Do you have any suggestions (in your opinion) on what could be done ??
