Excellent video presentation! I appreciate the time you put in making this video! Your step by step on taking it apart and cleaning will really help me out when I rebuild it tomorrow. My mower runs great for 10 minutes and then cuts out and stops running. I'm hoping it's just the carburetor. Everything else looks ok. I'll make sure to clean all those little holes everywhere! I subscribed right away and I'll suggest this site to others! Thank you!
HI! Hopefully you haven't already taken it apart, but I would recommend you check the gas cap to see if it's venting properly. The quickest way to check is open the gas cap and put a rag in the hole to keep gas from splashing out. If it keeps running then that's what was wrong... 😊. Thanks for the sub...!
Glad i found this video, im lost in the woods right now trying to troubleshoot my troybuilt 42 inch pony. Im pretty sure its a carburetor problem, but there is so much cheap safty crap on it ill never be sure until i finally get the beast running again. I really wish you didn't fast foward thru putting yours back together but thanks again for the help.
HI Stratcat! I appreciate the input about the fast forward. Sometimes I do that to keep the video from getting to long, but then there's peeps who want to see the full process when it goes back together....
Stop using cheap gas 98 octane, bio free ! You will have better luck with your machine, After you replace your carburetor fuel line, shut off line and filter Paper filters works the best for gravity flow ! And by all means clean and flush out your fuel tank
I washed my 2017 17.5hp Troy-Bilt Pony riding mower and now having issues with flooding and fuel coming out of muffler!! I noticed wires are missing from fuel solenoid!! I found a white wire, but think there should also be a black! How is this part wired to the mower?
I hope so I need to fix mine 🤯 replaced fuel pump but now I think it’s the carb won’t run on full choke now. Never will run on anything but full choke HELPPP
My carburetor looks exactly the same except there is an adjustment screw near the fuel inlet and the idle speed screw and I can't find the procedure to adjust it
HI, if it's a fuel adjustment screw I would turn it all the way in until it stops then back it out about 2 turns. From there it should run and you can fine tune it until your engine sounds right. Im just throwing the 2 turns adjustment out there as a starting point. It is not meant to be an important number.
Hopefully you see this! I pulled and cleaned my carb as shown here, thanks for the helpful video! Now my mower surges but only on high RPM. Should i reclean it or is there an adjustment screw? I believe its too lean
HI Surging on these is usually caused by some trash somewhere in the carburetor. Yes I would probably clean it again. Make sure to remove and clean all the little holes in the emulsion tube. Time index (8:00). Take a look in your gas tank and make sure you don't see any little particles floating around on the bottom. If so, even if you clean your carb it might re-contaminate your newly cleaned carb..
Very helpful video. So I have a craftsman T110 Briggs and Stratton 17.5HP . Cranks and won't start. I used a little of starting fluid, and it cranks and runs while the starter fluid lasts and then shuts off. I already cleaned the carburetor. New spark plug. New engine oil. My last guess is buying a new carburetor. Any suggestions before i order a new carburetor?
Does that engine have a fuel pump? Im working on one as we speak and it has one (Gas tank is in the back is probably why. IF yours is gravity fed then probably doesn't have it.) If yours does, disconnect the line going into the carburetor and point it into a jar. Crank over the engine and see if it's spitting out fuel... You should see a pretty good stream there... If you don't have the fuel pump what about the filter? IS fuel making it into the carburetor?
@@JLPicard440Mine doesnt have a fuel pump . I was able to find the problem, though. It was the carburetor solenoid located under the carburetor. I decided to buy aftermarket since OEM is pretty expensive at 65 dollars, so i got one for 13 dollars from Amazon and worked perfectly. Thanks for your helpful videos. Keep up the great work 👍
Great find! Those usually don't go bad unless fuel sits in the carburetor and causes the plunger to not move back and forth well... Glad you got it going...
HI! Without seeing it I can't be sure. Sometimes there an o-ring on the needle valve for the idle, sometimes there's on o-ring on the emulsion tube, but I don't think this one uses one... It doesn't go on the bottom of the bowl bolt does it? Usually that's a flat gasket.
@JLPicard440 Hello! Not sure but hadn't taken emulsion tube out yet and the one on fuel solenoid is definitely flat. Looked up the diagram and couldn't see a small o ring in the blow up, so have no idea? Thanks for responding
I don't remember if there's any close-ups in this video that might identify where that might go? I'd have to go through the whole thing to see. If you have access to Facebook you can upload a picture to my "Take a Bath Productions" page and I'll take a look and see if I see anything.
I have a Troy-Bilt 17.5 what are brand new plug in it I took the muffler off it runs like crap it'll stay running the one I throttle it up it runs really bad the whole lawn mower shakes
Sweet vid! Thanks So I’m doing a tune up/trying to correct surging but @8:00 you say the main jet doesn’t always thread out to get at the emulsion tube. Mine will not and I’m afraid to damage it. I guess I’ll bypass it for now but I’d really like to correct the surging, any ideas?
Yes the surging may be caused by the low speed jet. I don't remember exactly where it is on this one, but those little holes inside the Venturi are usually part of that circuit. If you google "low speed jet surging" something should come up about what I mean. I hope that helps.. There are other things that could cause it, but I've found that to be most common.
HI... I don't remember on that particular one. IF the gas tank is under the hood under the steering column then it's more than likely just gravity fed. If the fuel tank is in the back then it'll have a fuel pump.
Hey man, this video got me fixed up! Great instructions and info. By the way, I used Stella brush bristles for the clean out wire. Worked great. Thanks.
@@JLPicard440 I also wanted to tell you that my emulsion tube was really jammed in there. I couldn’t push it past the opening in the barrel. My solution was to feed bailing wire through it, just double the fed- end over, wrap the long end on a rack post and quick tug about 3 times to free it. Just in case that helps anyone else.
You took off the top of the engine housing but did not show the complexity of putting it back in place. Two spacers fell out when I removed it and I have no idea where to put them. I put the top back without them and destroyed the fins or restart. Also, I could not refit the air filter so I knew something was amiss. AJC
HI, sometimes I don't show how it goes back because it goes together exactly the same way it came apart. It''s 5 bolts and a plastic clip. I reviewed the video and there are no spacers involved in taking that off.
One of the best videos ever. Right to the point without a 30 minute introduction.😊 Great.
Wow, thanks!
Even better, no country music or whatever!! Just good explanations, to the point.
Thank you! I have music in a couple of my videos, but mostly not... 😀
Coincidentally, I just came across your video after rebuilding the carburetor on the same system. Well done sir!!
Awesome! Thank you for the great feedback...
Well done video. Fairly straightforward without and stupid gimmicks or ads, decent camera work. Overall.... Useful. Good job 👍
Thank you so much! 😀

What are the intake and exhaust valve settings on this engine please?
I think it's .004 intake .006 exhaust, but you might want to double check ..
Why not just remove carb and intake manifold but leave the flywheel cover on?
I think on this one you can do that...
Could you share the engine number please?
