I love the game tbh. Some people have gone on to say the Titan bosses are bad (and the DLC didn't help), but I will never forget the pure childlike joy I had playing those bosses for the first time. Like it was genuinely one of the best experience I've had as a life long Sonic fan. But outside of the bosses, I loved the vibe and tone. Exploring the Islands was way more fun than I expected. Visually I don't love it, but gameplay wise it was a lot of fun. I even like the cyberspace levels and the music in those. It's a weird game cos it doesn't particularly excel in anything but it all perfectly blends together somehow into a great experience. I will say I think the final DLC was not good though, too ambitious for a free update that ended up feeling very unpolished.

I actually really like TFH as well. Some of the best platforming challenges in the game (cyberspace, the 5 towers, the new characters, etc). Especially after the patch in December where they fixed the perfect parry and Knuckles's glide controls, I think TFH is super fun.

Brother, time flies so fast. This marks almost 2 years since the game came out, and so was The Final Horizon update almost one year ago. Sonic Frontiers brought us many moments to the many communities. It's actually one that changed forever in my gaming life, and I met many Sonic fans that brought the franchise back to life, including you, Fadel. I thank everyone, every moment and everything that made this game somewhat special for me, and for all of us here! 💙😊💙
Frontiers has been a game that is tied to me emotionally, it was released during a period where I suffered the worst pain I’d ever experienced, but while I was recovering I would listen to the music from the game to keep myself positive. Then by the time the final horizons released I was still struggling with my pain but I was a little more in control by that point. I love this game deeply, despite its flaws.
Mini review from self proclaimed no.1 sonic frontiers fan: 1- I love the skill ceiling of the game. The more you play, the better you get, the more fun the game is. Im not even close to mastering the games movement after 100s of hours. I dont think being good at the game+not having fun is possible. 2- If they removed the entire game and only left the final horizon expansion, it would still be one of the best games ive ever played. 3- Frontiers got me into edm and there is no going back, 10/10 soundtrack. 4- Past to the future arrow of time 5- Dropaholic the speakers on
I still remember when the first teaser was out just sonic running through the woods. Happy I predicted it was gonna focus on ancients and the Choas emeralds would be apart of the story. Love this game so much. First time playing through was quite the experience. 💙
Me personally, I don’t understand how some people DONT like this game. This is probably one of, if not, my favorite sonic game in the whole franchise. The story, the character developments, the exploration of the islands, the combat, the boss fights, the music, etc. It just screams what Sonic should’ve been years ago.
I can explain why I’m not keen on the game. I finally got the game after it went on sale for $20. I personally have several issues with the game that drag down my enjoyment of it. I don’t like the way that the game physics feel compared to games like Generations or Unleashed, making precise platforming more of a hassle than it needs to be. Additionally, Cyberspace reusing levels from those games but without being built around the better controls made me avoid them like the plague, something that should never be the case in a Sonic game. The game also lacks polish. Sonic will go airborne on seemingly flat terrain by stubbing his toe on a slightly misaligned pebble or stop dead in his tracks halfway through a loop because of clipping issues. Don’t even get me started on that godawful pinball minigame that was mandatory despite success basically being up to luck. I’m nearing the end of the game, and if I had to rate it right now, I’d give it a 5/10. There’s good ideas in it, but I wouldn’t call it a good game overall.
@@JGuy97 I do agree on SOME things that you said. The physics in cyberspace are kinda wonky at moments where sonic does feel slow rather than fast, and his controls are kinda stiff. Probably cuz back then with unleashed and generations, they used a different engine. And I definitely agree on the pinball part, that was horrible. But overall, every game has its flaws which I do agree on, but me personally, I think it’s a pretty decent game compared to what we’ve been getting for the last 10 years like with lost world, and forces.
For all the people who beat it before the updates, please go back, lower Sonic's resistance to everything to 0 (as in jump resistance, run resistance, etc) and unlock the Spin Dash. I swear it's a completely different game if you play it with the Spin Dash, you fly and can bend the islands' geometry to your will. The drawback is that puzzles that require precise movement will become harder as Sonic won't stop on a dime (hence why it's an amazing idea to let you configure Sonic the way Frontiers allows you to). As for the game itself, it's top 5 Sonic game for me. I love everything about it. Sure it's not perfect but no Sonic game is, but the foundation Frontiers has as you mentioned is everything I could want out of a Sonic game. A combat system designed for a speedy character like Sonic, islands full of platforming challenges that awkwardly float in the sky, Cyber Space levels to break the open zone gameplay even if most are recycled from older games, multiple playable characters even if the others are limited to a single island, and a story that takes itself and the world it comes from seriously even if references the past a bit too much. Polish all of this up, such as fleshing out the combat, nerfing the parry active window (but not to a single frame you maniacs lol), integrating the platforming into the islands better, making the puzzles all match the difficulty of Final Horizon, making all Cyber Space levels original, and for the love of god STOP USING GREEN HILL. It's incredible how Sonic Team as level designers has evolved over the past 10 years. The journey from Lost World to Forces to Frontiers to Final Horizon to Shadow Generations is incredible, with Final Horizon doing 9 experimental and original stages. I hope Shadow Generations takes all of the lessons from Frontiers to heart, and please for the love of god give Shadow a Spin Dash for at least the open zone.
I'll never forget the buildup to Frontiers' release, especially starting that August. I'd tune into your streams a lot actually, this was such a joy to be a part of back then. I still hold a LOT of love for Frontiers, it's in my top 3 games OAT. Still look back on it as one of the best times I've had in YEARS LOL. Much love, your streams back then AND NOW have gotten me through a lot! ❤
What perfect timing this video came out. I just played this game recently after not having the opportunity to play it for a while and I still love it to this day! I still remember it like it was yesterday when I was anticipating for its release, looking at leaks, and just overall feeling that sense of excitement. Can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years now…this game truly was the start of Sonic’s comeback and the best part is that it’ll continue to get better from here!
I gotta say, completing Master King Koco Trial pre-patch was one rough as hell experience, but it was one I'll never forget. Not only enjoying the cinematics of the Titans again, but also mastering the boss attacks to earn those spectacle moments. The Supreme/The End final boss captured and enhanced that mentality very well, it was the most challenging/puzzle-like of the Titans and took me several tries, but Super Sonic 2 was simply built different, everything about him was so much cooler, I remember laughing in awe at pulling off the Grand Slam cinematic for the first time. 30:18 One really good example of what you're talking about for future Sonic characters working together are the Sly Cooper games (2, 3, and Thieves in Time, but particularly Sly 2). In those games, the main characters are part of a master thief gang, and usually you play as one character at a time for their individual missions. On occasion, other characters accompany the one you're playing as for certain missions (like providing backup for a friend while they hack a computer database), and in the final operations of each chapter, you're switching back and forth between each characters as they do their part to bring everything down.
I think I tried the Master Koco trial 2 or 3 times before turning on Unlimited Rings via the hedgehog manager because I knew there was 0% I was beating it
frontiers is such a memorable sonic game to me, i dont care what the usual consensus is nowadays it is important to me, special to me, lots of fun no matter how much i play it, dropped on my birthday, and helped me through a really tragic moment in my life around launch, it means a lot to me and even if future games stomp it, i wont stop loving it
As a content creator, the best part of Frontiers is the music. Especially the Paths Revisited OST that gave us the instrumental versions of the titan themes. Love mixing other songs with them, my personal favorite being Break Through It All.

If you’re a sonic fan and the Titan Bosses don’t at least make you smile , I can understand not everyone vibin with them totally cool if you have Criticism of how they play and the janky animations , but bro they are so cool and make sonic look so badass , they just have so much raw energy , Super Sonic throwing a giant metal flying worm into a Mountain with his hands , and slicing a anime looking robot swords man in half with his own sword!!!! 2:40 Agreed so much. I really don't enjoy sandbox exploration and collecting materials and whatnot, but I could at least enjoy zipping around bouncing off springs and the like with this game. A sandbox being your own personal skatepark sounds more appealing to me than realistically climbing up a mountain and then having to wait for the rain to stop. I still have some hang-ups about it, like the island channels sometimes leaned a little too heavily into Korok seed tier filler, like circling the light and then following it, or circling the the things in a specific order. But all in all I can appreciate Frontiers being a genuine win for the series, at least in the eyes of the fandom.
I recently went back to 100% the game, and I understand why people can be disappointed in it, but I just have a big smile on my face every time I run around and find a new thing in the world I hadn’t seen yet.
Sonic frontiers is my favorite sonic game of all time! And when it comes to open zone to the peaked boss fight in history, this is the greatest sonic game in the making.
I swear the first time undefeatable, break through it all, and find your flame play it genuinely felt like I was in a Dragonball episode having the time of my life. I PRAY Sega makes the next game just as impactful, hell MORE impactful than frontiers man
Frontiers is what Sonic needed at the time. We just came off the heels of Forces which was incredibly mediocre. We needed a break through game that stood on its own and refreshed the formula with new gameplay. Open world Sonic was something I always pined for so to finally play something like that felt so refreshing compared to the mid boost levels in Forces. Frontiers is super important for the franchise and I can’t wait to see how the improve the formula.
One thing I wanna know is what the many new younger Sonic fans from stuff like the movies and Prime thought while seeing Super Sonic fight these giant mechs that belong in Evangelion while straight up Metalcore is playing.
One gripe I do have with Frontiers that I haven’t seen anyone talk about is the game’s Maximum Ring Count for the Cyber Space Boost upgrade. Once you max out Sonic with the Hermit & Elder Koco you get an upgrade for the boost in Cyber Space, but you can’t reach the 999 threshold to activate it because there aren’t enough rings in the stages. And you can only get the upgrade once you max out everything. I think if they had just lowered the maximum ring count or just made the Cyber Space Boost Upgrade not tied to Ring Count It would have been a much more useful ability over all.
@@kaobunn I can’t remember if it came out with the update or before, I haven’t played my copy since Frontiers came out. If I’m remembering right If you max out Sonic’s Stat’s you get the Infinite boost for Cyber Space. But you need to reach your max ring count to use it, so once you already have the max 999 it kinda makes the upgrade redundant since you can’t get that many rings in cyber space.
It's just kind of a shame how the end does nothing in the new final fight, it's cool you get a new cinematic fight with supreme but at the cost of the end being built up throughout the game just sit there then die at the end, where at least in the OG ending you actually go into space and actually fight the end itself and its fighting back and monologing.
The way I see Frontiers is like this: It was a huge “throw it at the wall and see if it sticks” deal, it was a huge Hail Mary knowing they nearly lost everything with this game but since it worked and succeeded, they know they just need to improve what they did right and fix what they didn’t. We’re already seeing it with Shadow Generations with the open zone white space for Shadow and all the combat/doom powers so they seem to have the combat aspect down, they still have a couple issues with the pop-in but I think that’s the engine they’re using cause it’s still Hedgehog Engine 2 which is what they used for Frontiers right? Anyways my point is this: they tested a bunch of stuff with Frontiers, they got feedback from the community about what worked and what didn’t, and they’re putting everything that worked into Shadow Generations, while doing what they can to iron out the issues.
To me Sonic Frontiers is the best Sonic game of all time sure it has its ups and downs like the pop in and the anticlimactic decision at the end in Rhea Island but its still fun in its own way This Game really is the SA1 for the 2020's where Visually its not the best but in terms of Gameplay its the best Gameplay Sonic has ever had in a while!
I'll focus on the most important thing: Looking back on this entire history thanks to you, it makes it feel like Frontiers is the goal we've been wanting for Sonic since Adventure. I think Frontiers is the best thing for Sonic ever, and this doesn't mean we have to be STUCK with this ONE style of Formula! I wasn't a fan of the smaller map challenges, but the Birthday and final Horizon Towers and Cyberspace should be cleaned up and explored as the major "linear" parts in a Hub like world, especially for multiple characters. Dream Team and Shadow Gens showing us the improvements and potential of using Frontiers with those in mind as a base works. Sonic Team don't restrict the Open Zone idea to just one way(ha) but continue to experiment like with those 2 other games for variety and make this Sonic's True Identity all about ADVENTURE, SPEED and STYLE!
I’m sad I wasn’t able to catch more of Revisited, but I AM SO THANKFUL I caught Final Horizons during Revisited. Unfortunately, I wasn’t caught up on the DLC during the initial release and missed the first playthrough. I wasn’t able to play it yet, so it was a must to watch your revisited playthrough with the community. Considering how amazing the experience was when I watched the release Frontiers run with the community, I couldn't miss this. HOLY SHIT am I thankful I got to watch this with everyone!! I did happen to come across a spoilery image a long time ago but after this, I knew basically NOTHING about Final Horizons. I knew there was a new Sonic Form/boss music but that’s about it. The re-work of the final boss was actually insane. I was in awe. I didn’t know what to expect, and I got something absolutely PEAK. The NEW SONIC FORM. THE FANGS. AN ACTUAL MENACING FINAL FIGHT WITH AN ICONIC EXECUTION FROM SONIC. This was an ending worthy of Sonic Frontiers and the fact that all of this content was FREE???? The inclusion of being able to play as the squad, watch their character development, and learn new lore bits/come across references to past Sonic media. Sonic Frontiers is truly a love letter to the Sonic community. It will always hold a special place in my heart as the game that truly cemented that Sonic is back. The hype and love that the franchise needed is back. I still think it’s so comical that Sonic Forces was going to be the game to re-ignite it all for me, but it just left me rather sad. I love Sonic with a passion so of course I always yearned for a new Sonic game that would bring me joy. I could always go back to the peak games from my childhood but man nothing beats having new content that brings that fresh joy back. Frontiers was EXACTLY that. I can't believe it has been 2 years already, and I am so thankful for Sonic Frontiers' existence. After all the Frontiers hype is how I found your community! Sonic Frontiers is something that the Sonic community shouldn’t take for granted. Had this game been a Forces 2.0 I fear for how the future would have turned out. Now we have Sonic x Shadow Gens AND Sonic Movie 3 around the corner. The Year of Shadow has been nothing but a success, and Sega BELIEVES in Sonic x Shadow Gens so much. It truly shows. The precedent has been set thanks to Frontiers and my god am I excited 🥺
My hot take is that Tails, Amy, and Knuckles won't show up in the next game and with them kinda going off on their own adventures at the end of Frontiers, it feels like an opportunity to bring in some of Sonic's other friends and flesh them out a bit. Cream, Rouge, Shadow, Chaotix, maybe even IDW characters like Tangle or Whisper or Belle. This feels like such an opportunity and I hope they do something like that.
Sonic frontiers and your coverage of it single handedly imo saved the franchise. Say what you want about what they could do better, to me it is the best 3D Sonic game I’ve played and it helped me find your channel! So 10/10 all the way
Honestly my ideal sonic game would be something like SA1's hub world but with an open zone format in place of the more slow-paced, weird puzzle solving stuff. Combine SA1's levels being part of the world with Frontiers' open world design, although also make the platforming challenges a bit more streamlined and less "floating rails in the sky" type beat. Maybe 3-4 levels per open zone? I'm curious to see how Shadow Generations does it, because that might be an even easier slam dunk than Frontiers' open zones.
Keeping jump deceleration and deceleration rate would be the best sliders they could keep. It gives new players more control over sonic while it leave veterans able to have fun with sonics speed since they're accustomed to it
This game is almost everything I've ever wanted for a sonic game I can boot it up and just run around spin dashing doing air tricks and I have a blast every time sometimes it feels like the cd op
The game is a step in the right direction going forward with finally updating the combat moveset, and am I the only one who prefers the songs such as escape the loop and flowing over the titan boss themes? Don't get me wrong they are great but I prefer the spacy edm songs personally.
The reason I love Sonic Frontiers so much is not just because I think the game is good, but also because it means a lot to me personally. I’ve already said this on Twitter, but Sonic Frontiers helped me get out of a bad spot in my life and it was one of the things that helped me find myself for the first time in years.
Love this game, it’s definitely flawed but still had so much fun with it and the dlc. I’m excited for Shadow Generations. And I’m definitely excited to see what Frontiers 2 will be like now that they’ll have more of a budget. Amazing how Frontiers was the make it or break, kinda scary when you think about it. I let out a cry once I finished Frontiers because it really was the best Sonic game that came out in a long time. This game really had to be a success because who knows where would we be now if it flopped.
I love Frontiers, and sure it may be very unpolished, but I think it serves as an incredible blueprint for the future of the series, even now with Shadow Gens we’re starting to see the devs take some of the lessons learned from Frontiers and refining them into something really exciting. I can’t wait for the next fully original 3D Sonic game!

Alongside SA2, Unleashed, Gens, and SA1 This is a easy Top 5 3D Sonic Game It has it’s problems, it has a lot of weird quirks and issues But it’s such a great game and so fun. Open zone as a concept is literally fire and has a fun and engaging gameplay loop. Cyberspace not being great and reusing a lot of things, is still fun with the already Goated level design of SA2, Unleashed and Gens alongside the OP Frontiers Spindash being so great! Combat while being quite basic and easy is so flashy and it’s so sick to see Sonic pull off these raw animations and moves. This game brought back the sauce we’d been missing in sonic Since Black Knight and Unleashed. Don’t even get me started about those goated Titan fights, the gameplay may not be great but the spectacle and the animations are absolutely incredible! To moments like Super Sonic picking up the sword to slice Knight, Super Sonic ramming straight through Giganto, throwing wyvern into a mountain, or doing crazy slashes against the end in Final Horizon. These are easily some of the coldest and coolest sonic moments ever done! And i mean that wholeheartedly! Speaking of Final Horizon, even I may have a fair share of issues with how the playable characters are handled, they are still fun regardless and miles better then when Forces and Boom attempted other characters 💀 As much as people may hate this term, the game is certainly a step into a right direction, an amazing future for 3D Sonic. Between this And Sonic X Shadow, they really are cooking and are back to understanding how these characters are meant to be and at the very least what makes them cool. This game reminded why Sonic is cool. This game is the reason why Sonic is back. And I can’t thank it more than enough for that. The sequel for this game if done right might be the best 3d game. Thank you so much, Sonic Frontiers!
My biggest flaw with Sonic Frontiers would definitely be the memory tokens. The open world platforming challenges are very poorly designed, and I completely understand and feel sympathetic for the developers that were rushed to produce the full game, but it absolutely shows in these segments. It looks horrible when put against the gorgeous island environments, the segments themselves aren’t connected to each other making it difficult for overall completion. But what is absolutely the #1 worst factor about these platforming segments is that they are completely indistinguishable from each other, making 100% completion of Sonic Frontiers nearly impossible without having to constantly open the map every 10 seconds to keep marking the next one. There are so many possible solutions to aid this issue without outright removing the platforming, but as someone who has 100% the base game and was going for it again on another save, it is incredibly tedious, especially when considering how completely fine all the other completion requirements are. It genuinely annoyed me because I enjoy Sonic Frontiers so much, and I support so many of the games aspects, but I absolutely don’t support the outcome of the open world platforming. The fundamental of open world platforming is amazing, and I dream of seeing this concept again someday, but the execution was really poor for me personally. My dream Sonic game is Sonic Unleashed but with a Sonic Frontiers-esque open world.
Sonic frontiers isn’t a technical marvel or masterpiece BUT it does have a feeling of adventure, action, and epicness that that hasn’t been seen SINCE sonic unleashed or black knight.
I ADORE Frontiers! When it dropped, it was all I did. And I defended tf out of it, because I saw the immense potential. I saw what it means for the future of the franchise, and I was RIGHT omfg! The updates were so fun, they only got more and more fun. The boss rush and cyber space rush, the power boost in cyber space, the challenges, special Koco, the MF SPINDASH DUUUUDE and. Of course. The Final Horizon. Wow. Playing as anyone besides Sonic was wild, it felt like we were coming back, a return to form. Frontiers is also the reason why we're getting Shadow Generations like are you KIDDING ME!! Shadow Gens is like Shadow Frontiers almost, and wow. We're here bros. This is THE time to be a Sonic fan 🤠🤠🤠

To be honest, i was kinda disappointed when Frontiers first came out 'cause I wanted it to be a bit better, but speaking honestly, the game is super fun and reminded everyone why we loved Sonic, you can see all the heart that was poured into this project, especially the updates

My idea for Sonic X Shadow generations DLC is that maybe they would add more stages for Sonic (Post-Generations era and some other stages from the 3DS version) A little rewrite of the Sonic Generations story by Ian Flynn, and the Time Eater reworked and make it feel like The Final Horizon Boss of peak and a rewritten story and with this reworked boss could work. But there is an option where you can do the original story and the original time eater boss obviously so yeah! That's it for the Sonic Generations part. I might add some Shadow DLC ideas when the game comes out!
Honestly I’m thinking frontiers 2 will probably be announced mid to late next year call me crazy but I feel like it may be time already! Think about it we get a game every year now (though I think it would just be an announcement next year not the release)

Brother, time flies so fast. This marks almost 2 years since the game came out, and so was The Final Horizon update almost one year ago.
Sonic Frontiers brought us many moments to the many communities. It's actually one that changed forever in my gaming life, and I met many Sonic fans that brought the franchise back to life, including you, Fadel. I thank everyone, every moment and everything that made this game somewhat special for me, and for all of us here! 💙😊💙

Frontiers has been a game that is tied to me emotionally, it was released during a period where I suffered the worst pain I’d ever experienced, but while I was recovering I would listen to the music from the game to keep myself positive. Then by the time the final horizons released I was still struggling with my pain but I was a little more in control by that point. I love this game deeply, despite its flaws.
Mini review from self proclaimed no.1 sonic frontiers fan:
1- I love the skill ceiling of the game. The more you play, the better you get, the more fun the game is. Im not even close to mastering the games movement after 100s of hours. I dont think being good at the game+not having fun is possible.
2- If they removed the entire game and only left the final horizon expansion, it would still be one of the best games ive ever played.
3- Frontiers got me into edm and there is no going back, 10/10 soundtrack.
4- Past to the future arrow of time

I still remember when the first teaser was out just sonic running through the woods. Happy I predicted it was gonna focus on ancients and the Choas emeralds would be apart of the story. Love this game so much. First time playing through was quite the experience. 💙

Me personally, I don’t understand how some people DONT like this game. This is probably one of, if not, my favorite sonic game in the whole franchise. The story, the character developments, the exploration of the islands, the combat, the boss fights, the music, etc. It just screams what Sonic should’ve been years ago.
I can explain why I’m not keen on the game. I finally got the game after it went on sale for $20. I personally have several issues with the game that drag down my enjoyment of it. I don’t like the way that the game physics feel compared to games like Generations or Unleashed, making precise platforming more of a hassle than it needs to be. Additionally, Cyberspace reusing levels from those games but without being built around the better controls made me avoid them like the plague, something that should never be the case in a Sonic game.
The game also lacks polish. Sonic will go airborne on seemingly flat terrain by stubbing his toe on a slightly misaligned pebble or stop dead in his tracks halfway through a loop because of clipping issues. Don’t even get me started on that godawful pinball minigame that was mandatory despite success basically being up to luck.
I’m nearing the end of the game, and if I had to rate it right now, I’d give it a 5/10. There’s good ideas in it, but I wouldn’t call it a good game overall.
@@JGuy97 I do agree on SOME things that you said. The physics in cyberspace are kinda wonky at moments where sonic does feel slow rather than fast, and his controls are kinda stiff. Probably cuz back then with unleashed and generations, they used a different engine. And I definitely agree on the pinball part, that was horrible. But overall, every game has its flaws which I do agree on, but me personally, I think it’s a pretty decent game compared to what we’ve been getting for the last 10 years like with lost world, and forces.

For all the people who beat it before the updates, please go back, lower Sonic's resistance to everything to 0 (as in jump resistance, run resistance, etc) and unlock the Spin Dash. I swear it's a completely different game if you play it with the Spin Dash, you fly and can bend the islands' geometry to your will. The drawback is that puzzles that require precise movement will become harder as Sonic won't stop on a dime (hence why it's an amazing idea to let you configure Sonic the way Frontiers allows you to).
As for the game itself, it's top 5 Sonic game for me. I love everything about it. Sure it's not perfect but no Sonic game is, but the foundation Frontiers has as you mentioned is everything I could want out of a Sonic game. A combat system designed for a speedy character like Sonic, islands full of platforming challenges that awkwardly float in the sky, Cyber Space levels to break the open zone gameplay even if most are recycled from older games, multiple playable characters even if the others are limited to a single island, and a story that takes itself and the world it comes from seriously even if references the past a bit too much.
Polish all of this up, such as fleshing out the combat, nerfing the parry active window (but not to a single frame you maniacs lol), integrating the platforming into the islands better, making the puzzles all match the difficulty of Final Horizon, making all Cyber Space levels original, and for the love of god STOP USING GREEN HILL.
It's incredible how Sonic Team as level designers has evolved over the past 10 years. The journey from Lost World to Forces to Frontiers to Final Horizon to Shadow Generations is incredible, with Final Horizon doing 9 experimental and original stages. I hope Shadow Generations takes all of the lessons from Frontiers to heart, and please for the love of god give Shadow a Spin Dash for at least the open zone.

What perfect timing this video came out. I just played this game recently after not having the opportunity to play it for a while and I still love it to this day! I still remember it like it was yesterday when I was anticipating for its release, looking at leaks, and just overall feeling that sense of excitement. Can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years now…this game truly was the start of Sonic’s comeback and the best part is that it’ll continue to get better from here!
I gotta say, completing Master King Koco Trial pre-patch was one rough as hell experience, but it was one I'll never forget. Not only enjoying the cinematics of the Titans again, but also mastering the boss attacks to earn those spectacle moments. The Supreme/The End final boss captured and enhanced that mentality very well, it was the most challenging/puzzle-like of the Titans and took me several tries, but Super Sonic 2 was simply built different, everything about him was so much cooler, I remember laughing in awe at pulling off the Grand Slam cinematic for the first time.
30:18 One really good example of what you're talking about for future Sonic characters working together are the Sly Cooper games (2, 3, and Thieves in Time, but particularly Sly 2). In those games, the main characters are part of a master thief gang, and usually you play as one character at a time for their individual missions. On occasion, other characters accompany the one you're playing as for certain missions (like providing backup for a friend while they hack a computer database), and in the final operations of each chapter, you're switching back and forth between each characters as they do their part to bring everything down.

As a content creator, the best part of Frontiers is the music. Especially the Paths Revisited OST that gave us the instrumental versions of the titan themes. Love mixing other songs with them, my personal favorite being Break Through It All.

2:40 Agreed so much. I really don't enjoy sandbox exploration and collecting materials and whatnot, but I could at least enjoy zipping around bouncing off springs and the like with this game. A sandbox being your own personal skatepark sounds more appealing to me than realistically climbing up a mountain and then having to wait for the rain to stop.
I still have some hang-ups about it, like the island channels sometimes leaned a little too heavily into Korok seed tier filler, like circling the light and then following it, or circling the the things in a specific order. But all in all I can appreciate Frontiers being a genuine win for the series, at least in the eyes of the fandom.

Frontiers is what Sonic needed at the time. We just came off the heels of Forces which was incredibly mediocre. We needed a break through game that stood on its own and refreshed the formula with new gameplay. Open world Sonic was something I always pined for so to finally play something like that felt so refreshing compared to the mid boost levels in Forces. Frontiers is super important for the franchise and I can’t wait to see how the improve the formula.
One thing I wanna know is what the many new younger Sonic fans from stuff like the movies and Prime thought while seeing Super Sonic fight these giant mechs that belong in Evangelion while straight up Metalcore is playing.

One gripe I do have with Frontiers that I haven’t seen anyone talk about is the game’s Maximum Ring Count for the Cyber Space Boost upgrade. Once you max out Sonic with the Hermit & Elder Koco you get an upgrade for the boost in Cyber Space, but you can’t reach the 999 threshold to activate it because there aren’t enough rings in the stages. And you can only get the upgrade once you max out everything.
I think if they had just lowered the maximum ring count or just made the Cyber Space Boost Upgrade not tied to Ring Count It would have been a much more useful ability over all.

@@kaobunn I can’t remember if it came out with the update or before, I haven’t played my copy since Frontiers came out. If I’m remembering right If you max out Sonic’s Stat’s you get the Infinite boost for Cyber Space. But you need to reach your max ring count to use it, so once you already have the max 999 it kinda makes the upgrade redundant since you can’t get that many rings in cyber space.
It's just kind of a shame how the end does nothing in the new final fight, it's cool you get a new cinematic fight with supreme but at the cost of the end being built up throughout the game just sit there then die at the end, where at least in the OG ending you actually go into space and actually fight the end itself and its fighting back and monologing.
The way I see Frontiers is like this:
It was a huge “throw it at the wall and see if it sticks” deal, it was a huge Hail Mary knowing they nearly lost everything with this game but since it worked and succeeded, they know they just need to improve what they did right and fix what they didn’t. We’re already seeing it with Shadow Generations with the open zone white space for Shadow and all the combat/doom powers so they seem to have the combat aspect down, they still have a couple issues with the pop-in but I think that’s the engine they’re using cause it’s still Hedgehog Engine 2 which is what they used for Frontiers right? Anyways my point is this: they tested a bunch of stuff with Frontiers, they got feedback from the community about what worked and what didn’t, and they’re putting everything that worked into Shadow Generations, while doing what they can to iron out the issues.

To me Sonic Frontiers is the best Sonic game of all time sure it has its ups and downs like the pop in and the anticlimactic decision at the end in Rhea Island but its still fun in its own way This Game really is the SA1 for the 2020's where Visually its not the best but in terms of Gameplay its the best Gameplay Sonic has ever had in a while!
I'll focus on the most important thing: Looking back on this entire history thanks to you, it makes it feel like Frontiers is the goal we've been wanting for Sonic since Adventure. I think Frontiers is the best thing for Sonic ever, and this doesn't mean we have to be STUCK with this ONE style of Formula!
I wasn't a fan of the smaller map challenges, but the Birthday and final Horizon Towers and Cyberspace should be cleaned up and explored as the major "linear" parts in a Hub like world, especially for multiple characters.
Dream Team and Shadow Gens showing us the improvements and potential of using Frontiers with those in mind as a base works. Sonic Team don't restrict the Open Zone idea to just one way(ha) but continue to experiment like with those 2 other games for variety and make this Sonic's True Identity all about ADVENTURE, SPEED and STYLE!

I’m sad I wasn’t able to catch more of Revisited, but I AM SO THANKFUL I caught Final Horizons during Revisited. Unfortunately, I wasn’t caught up on the DLC during the initial release and missed the first playthrough. I wasn’t able to play it yet, so it was a must to watch your revisited playthrough with the community. Considering how amazing the experience was when I watched the release Frontiers run with the community, I couldn't miss this. HOLY SHIT am I thankful I got to watch this with everyone!! I did happen to come across a spoilery image a long time ago but after this, I knew basically NOTHING about Final Horizons. I knew there was a new Sonic Form/boss music but that’s about it. The re-work of the final boss was actually insane. I was in awe. I didn’t know what to expect, and I got something absolutely PEAK. The NEW SONIC FORM. THE FANGS. AN ACTUAL MENACING FINAL FIGHT WITH AN ICONIC EXECUTION FROM SONIC. This was an ending worthy of Sonic Frontiers and the fact that all of this content was FREE???? The inclusion of being able to play as the squad, watch their character development, and learn new lore bits/come across references to past Sonic media. Sonic Frontiers is truly a love letter to the Sonic community. It will always hold a special place in my heart as the game that truly cemented that Sonic is back. The hype and love that the franchise needed is back. I still think it’s so comical that Sonic Forces was going to be the game to re-ignite it all for me, but it just left me rather sad. I love Sonic with a passion so of course I always yearned for a new Sonic game that would bring me joy. I could always go back to the peak games from my childhood but man nothing beats having new content that brings that fresh joy back. Frontiers was EXACTLY that. I can't believe it has been 2 years already, and I am so thankful for Sonic Frontiers' existence. After all the Frontiers hype is how I found your community! Sonic Frontiers is something that the Sonic community shouldn’t take for granted. Had this game been a Forces 2.0 I fear for how the future would have turned out. Now we have Sonic x Shadow Gens AND Sonic Movie 3 around the corner. The Year of Shadow has been nothing but a success, and Sega BELIEVES in Sonic x Shadow Gens so much. It truly shows. The precedent has been set thanks to Frontiers and my god am I excited 🥺
My hot take is that Tails, Amy, and Knuckles won't show up in the next game and with them kinda going off on their own adventures at the end of Frontiers, it feels like an opportunity to bring in some of Sonic's other friends and flesh them out a bit. Cream, Rouge, Shadow, Chaotix, maybe even IDW characters like Tangle or Whisper or Belle. This feels like such an opportunity and I hope they do something like that.

Honestly my ideal sonic game would be something like SA1's hub world but with an open zone format in place of the more slow-paced, weird puzzle solving stuff. Combine SA1's levels being part of the world with Frontiers' open world design, although also make the platforming challenges a bit more streamlined and less "floating rails in the sky" type beat. Maybe 3-4 levels per open zone? I'm curious to see how Shadow Generations does it, because that might be an even easier slam dunk than Frontiers' open zones.
Keeping jump deceleration and deceleration rate would be the best sliders they could keep. It gives new players more control over sonic while it leave veterans able to have fun with sonics speed since they're accustomed to it

The game is a step in the right direction going forward with finally updating the combat moveset, and am I the only one who prefers the songs such as escape the loop and flowing over the titan boss themes? Don't get me wrong they are great but I prefer the spacy edm songs personally.
Sonic Frontiers is still a very fun game to me, even if I do have my issues with it. I still replay it on Steam thanks to the fun as hell mods!

I’ve already said this on Twitter, but Sonic Frontiers helped me get out of a bad spot in my life and it was one of the things that helped me find myself for the first time in years.
Love this game, it’s definitely flawed but still had so much fun with it and the dlc. I’m excited for Shadow Generations. And I’m definitely excited to see what Frontiers 2 will be like now that they’ll have more of a budget.

I let out a cry once I finished Frontiers because it really was the best Sonic game that came out in a long time. This game really had to be a success because who knows where would we be now if it flopped.

This is a easy Top 5 3D Sonic Game
It has it’s problems, it has a lot of weird quirks and issues
But it’s such a great game and so fun.
Open zone as a concept is literally fire and has a fun and engaging gameplay loop.
Cyberspace not being great and reusing a lot of things, is still fun with the already Goated level design of SA2, Unleashed and Gens alongside the OP Frontiers Spindash being so great!
Combat while being quite basic and easy is so flashy and it’s so sick to see Sonic pull off these raw animations and moves. This game brought back the sauce we’d been missing in sonic Since Black Knight and Unleashed.
Don’t even get me started about those goated Titan fights, the gameplay may not be great but the spectacle and the animations are absolutely incredible!
To moments like Super Sonic picking up the sword to slice Knight, Super Sonic ramming straight through Giganto, throwing wyvern into a mountain, or doing crazy slashes against the end in Final Horizon.
These are easily some of the coldest and coolest sonic moments ever done! And i mean that wholeheartedly!
Speaking of Final Horizon, even I may have a fair share of issues with how the playable characters are handled, they are still fun regardless and miles better then when Forces and Boom attempted other characters 💀
As much as people may hate this term, the game is certainly a step into a right direction, an amazing future for 3D Sonic.
Between this And Sonic X Shadow, they really are cooking and are back to understanding how these characters are meant to be and at the very least what makes them cool. This game reminded why Sonic is cool.
This game is the reason why Sonic is back. And I can’t thank it more than enough for that.
The sequel for this game if done right might be the best 3d game.

My biggest flaw with Sonic Frontiers would definitely be the memory tokens. The open world platforming challenges are very poorly designed, and I completely understand and feel sympathetic for the developers that were rushed to produce the full game, but it absolutely shows in these segments. It looks horrible when put against the gorgeous island environments, the segments themselves aren’t connected to each other making it difficult for overall completion. But what is absolutely the #1 worst factor about these platforming segments is that they are completely indistinguishable from each other, making 100% completion of Sonic Frontiers nearly impossible without having to constantly open the map every 10 seconds to keep marking the next one.
There are so many possible solutions to aid this issue without outright removing the platforming, but as someone who has 100% the base game and was going for it again on another save, it is incredibly tedious, especially when considering how completely fine all the other completion requirements are. It genuinely annoyed me because I enjoy Sonic Frontiers so much, and I support so many of the games aspects, but I absolutely don’t support the outcome of the open world platforming.
The fundamental of open world platforming is amazing, and I dream of seeing this concept again someday, but the execution was really poor for me personally. My dream Sonic game is Sonic Unleashed but with a Sonic Frontiers-esque open world.
Sonic frontiers isn’t a technical marvel or masterpiece BUT it does have a feeling of adventure, action, and epicness that that hasn’t been seen SINCE sonic unleashed or black knight.

Sonic Frontiers is the only game to dethrone Heroes as my all-time favorite, the voice acting gameplay story are already amazing but what this meant to the Sonic Renaissance were in right now I wouldn't trade for the world

To be honest, i was kinda disappointed when Frontiers first came out 'cause I wanted it to be a bit better, but speaking honestly, the game is super fun and reminded everyone why we loved Sonic, you can see all the heart that was poured into this project, especially the updates

I’ll say that Frontiers definitely isn’t perfect, far from it, but the fact that THIS GAME is their FIRST TRY at a true open world Sonic between different islands is fucking ridiculous. I can confidently say this is my all time favourite because it put such a massive stupid fucking grin on my face while playing, especially for the Titans. Can’t wait to see what they cook with the next game. (also Starfall Super Sonic is PEAK)
If they do have a sequel to Sonic frontiers it would probably takes place with the orginal ending

My idea for Sonic X Shadow generations DLC is that maybe they would add more stages for Sonic (Post-Generations era and some other stages from the 3DS version) A little rewrite of the Sonic Generations story by Ian Flynn, and the Time Eater reworked and make it feel like The Final Horizon Boss of peak and a rewritten story and with this reworked boss could work. But there is an option where you can do the original story and the original time eater boss obviously so yeah! That's it for the Sonic Generations part. I might add some Shadow DLC ideas when the game comes out!

Honestly I’m thinking frontiers 2 will probably be announced mid to late next year call me crazy but I feel like it may be time already! Think about it we get a game every year now (though I think it would just be an announcement next year not the release)
