The paving certainly makes it look a bit more up market from what I remember on my first visit 24 yrs ago! It had a real hippy/back packers vibe back then but the street still seems to have maintained its charm. Looking forward to heading back there soon.

555 I avoid this road purposely since it’s just for backpackers wearing their elephant pants.. it at least helps the economy recovery though so that’s a positive thing.

There is a way through the Watt. Just where you leave the alley there is a pass through. This is where I discovered a secret of Thailand. Dogs don’t chase cats and chickens. I still have no explanation for that .

That area was used by travelers a long time ago. it was a friendly quiet place to meet people. Now it is a dump of anomic tourists coming from all over the world suburbs. all the same. even the color of their identical clothing are dull.

Good advice on staying in rambutri. I used to stay on khao san- always noisy so not good if you want i good sleep

It's about 20 minutes by taxi from Soi 11 to Khao San, when there is not to much traffic :-)
