Buyer Beware: Chuangzheng-Model Copper Metal Tracks (eBay Surprise) - CZ35001 KV/IS Track

  • I ordered R-Model Metal Tracks on eBay. I got these instead. I still want R-Model tracks.
Also, Chuangzheng-Model has zero online presence at the time of me filming this video. I presume this is their first release, being kit number CZ35001 (1/35 scale, 1st product). That, or this is some very elaborate scam.
Well, since they are here, I decided I would review these very odd copper-plated metal tracks...before I ship them back for replacements. R-Model, please.

DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

Update: Seller offered me a ...13% refund? Apparently "only the box was different, the tracks are the same". The fuck?
Well eBay gave me a full refund since the seller took too long. This means I get to keep the tracks too, so maybe I'll find use in the pins down the line.
    Seller was "peaceful2018".

Like you said, I too have had several successful purchases from Peaceful so that is surprising(and sad) to hear. At least eBay did the right thing and im not 100% but I believe Yanworld and Honey, both with numbers after them I just don't recall, are the same sellers as Peaceful. All of which I have had all successful sales and never a problem. Ive actually NEVER had an issue with Asian Sellers and save a TON of money. Some of my model friends seem to like to pay almost double to NOT have to wait 10 to 15 days for delivery.
But just keep an eye out as even great sellers are people that are only human and can all of a sudden act in INhuman ways haha. Keep up the vids brother!!

Usually with the Chinese, the more professional the presentation, the more shoddy the workmanship. And I guarantee that the pin mark is because they copied someone else's plastic track link.

I’m guessing they’re diecast or pressure sintered zinc (or the cheap zinc alloy sometimes called “pot metal”). Either process can leave pin marks. They’re probably light weight and hard because there’s no lead in them and probably no or very little tin either. The pins look like standard industrial engineering split pins that haven’t had the final production stage where one end is enlarged to prevent it passing through the hole the pin is supposed to fit and one leg is often cut off short to make it easier to fold the legs around whatever cylindrical fitting or drilled nut and bolt the pin is pushed through.
The copper’s probably electroplated on to make them look shiny. Shiny = “quality” = better sales in some parts of the world.
To be fair, from what this video shows, they’ve not done a bad job regarding consistency and lack of flash etc. but what they are not is what was actually ordered. Think I’ll be sticking to Friul though, that way I can be sure of what I’m getting.

Metallic casted products like the these tracks, despite the fact that they are metallic, they are produced through molds like the plastic ones and the pin mark is from an injection pin that is used to inject the part out of the mold’s cavity. The material is melted aluminum (zamak) and they are not copper coated. It´s just chemical colorization that is used in a post production process to harden the material. The color could be any metallic color. They just chose the copper look. I hope I helped with my expertise.

Good heads up for your viewers. Three deal killers here. 1) The ejector pin marks. Most plastic tracks, these days; don't have them. 2) The heavy copper plating. That's part of the entire reason for metal tracks. The buffed shiny surface after blackening. This is the real killer here. 3) Return shipping and down time hassle. I'm passing on these, for the time being. Three strikes before they ever get to the plate.

The weight difference is probably because it's aluminium.
The copper coating is to make you not question why they are so light. It would also look far more shiny than white metal.

After one of your earlier R Model reviews I bought a set of their KT tracks c/w brass turned pins, at a very cheap price ~£23. The other RModel tracks from the same supplier were all more expensive so it’s almost as if they were a loss leader of some sort. They came in a slightly rounded clear plastic box (not printed cardboard) very similar to what you have there and with a very similar printed paper graphic insert. But they are branded R Model. They are plain white metal and they also have pin marks (2). I wasn’t too bothered as these were my first set of metal tracks so I just gave them a bit of filing down. I also got a pair of white metal KT sprockets in the box! So in some respects similar to your experience.

Pinmarks on them mean they have badly fitted push pin on mould. Metal tracks usually dont have pinmarks cause metal is harder than plastic, so if they are fitted properly during casting process they leave no marks while form is opened and parts pushed out.
All "cold bluing" solutions are basically covering your parts in copper and darkening it, so OFC it will work on pure copper. :)

Panzermeister the original was a plastic injection moulded part, they have almost certainly taken a moulding from that original track and created the metal versions from it.
A mould ejector pin on a metal mould you dont have it, you dont need it and even if you did you wouldnt mark the part with it.
Its a metal copy of a plastic original

SO I'm guessing the tracks were give some sort of chemical bath and the cooper tint is the result...... possibly to avoid importing a "lead" product. ?

The pin marks are easily explained by simply making a low temperature vulcanising silicone white metal mould of plastic tracks or even making brass sub masters by spruing up and burning out plastic tracks by the lost wax casting method (I've done both myself in work experiments with plastic masters) then making a conventional white metal mould from the brass subs. Exactly what metal they've used here though I don't know but the pin marks and any mould lines would defo indicate that that's what this company have done. Bit of a shame really cos it's basically both piracy and an otherwise well presented and packaged looking product... until you open them lol.

Track sets give plenty of extras since it is common for links to be broken or mismolded.

You sure they're copper and not brass? I've heard of brass pins but can't recall hearing about copper pins.

Copper engineering split pins exist and are sometimes used where a steel or soft iron pin isn’t appropriate. The ones with the tracks look remarkably like part-finished split pins to me. Ones pulled off the production line before the final shaping and trimming was done.

which ebay seller please? because R-Model are available from a number of different ebay sellers.

    • @Panzermeister36

The individual seller isn't the issue. All those sellers get the tracks from the same suppliers. Apparently the suppliers are now sending the sellers these instead of R-Model.
The seller will be an issue if they don't agree I should get a refund though...

The pinmark is there because the mold is a knock off of a plastic trackmold and the chemical progress in the blackening solution might destroy the aluminium!Try to avoid chinese products from small companys directly marketed by chinese! Its something differnet with the big chinese companys!

I know, and I wouldn't have bought this had I known what I was going to get. It was a well known ebay seller from Hong Kong and the product shown was the great R-Model tracks.

btw i recently bought some Sanxin Tiger I Early tracks complete with brass pins - they are cheaper than R-Model and very good in quality; much cleaner than Friuls re hole going all the way through etc. Anyone else tried these?

Ive bought ONE set of Fruils in my life, upon finding I had to re-drill nearly EVERY track pin hole on every piece, that was my 1st & last set!...Still sitting loose in the original bag!...;)
Yup, bought Tiger E/1 earlys, panther & T34 tracks from Sanxin, all were EXCELLENT. Full length brass pins, no pin holes to re-drill on not a single track block on all 3 sets...
(Although the T34 example had brass full length pins, the surface finish of the tracks were a bit too smooth & highly polished, so when blued, they look good, but are a bit too smooth/shiny).....
-GREAT value though for the tiger/panther tracks. I'd def purchase again....
I usually purchase "R-Model" & sometimes UKR's "Sector35" tracks for all my models....
      Take care...

hang on ..you want to replace the kit item tracks , you buy these , but won't put the minor work needed .. If at all ..to mount them on the tank ! it is not likely you will see the pin marks after painting and mounting.. still - a little sand down ( as you would normally do with pin marks on a model) , blackening/ painting up and then weathering.. and i dare say they would look fine.. Is that not the point of the hobby ..rather then shake the box and out comes a perfect KV1 with no work involved... hmmm

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  4 роки тому

You can't sand these. They are copper plated and extremely durable. Also...you can see the pin marks very obviously due to KV suspension. If they could work I would use them. But these are knockoffs and they're not what I paid for.
If you paid for a brand new car and got a broken old one that could work if you put in a lot of work, would you not complain?
