I like that Blind Horse knife. Great looking blade. Handle looks comfortable to me.
Some people do shave some of the ferro rod off, kind of like a magnesium bar. I don't personally do it that way. I just make sure I have good tinder and just spark 'er up. Good ignition tinder for me is cattails/milk weed, birchbark (small bits crinkled or scraped), fat wood scrapings (or small shavings) and homemade fire starters. (I make mine with the missus' make up removal pads and wax - or cotton balls with vaseline. I've never bought a firestsrter in my life, and won't ever.
I'm enjoying watching how you're firguring stuff out. Its fun to kess around with this kind of if thing, isn't it?
    Thanks for sharing.

The Bark River Bravo handle is more comfortable for feather sticking than the Battle Horse Highlander. I'm not sure yet between Bravo and the Casstrom, they are both comfortable for feather sticking. I think cattails would be as good as dryer lint for catching sparks. I have a river birch here on the place, so maybe I'll try some bark from it. The most critical part from what I see is the tender bundle.
