You're a talented saxophonist. I have 5 Chinese made saxophones. One of them bought at a reputable music store in Scandinavia, a Roy Benson SS-101 Soprano Saxophone. The others were shipped to me from China. My cousin is a professional saxophone player. He visited a saxophone factory in China, inside information implies that some of the Chinese saxophones are made by the same people there who assemble saxophones for high end companies. Probably not all the materials they use in production are the same for the high end instruments as for the inexpensive ones. But I do believe that there's a psychological dimension to how people perceive the entire saxophone production topic. It's just too hard for some people psychologically to acknowledge or admit that a Chinese inexpensive horn can be almost at the level of reputable expensive horns. But I believe this has virtually become a reality.
Good night bro great video. The bari sax which you said is about eight years old and you suspect the top pads need changing is very good. You are correct almost every sax being played for that time regularly the top pads would need replacing. Great video bro. You have potential stick to your instruments you will only get better.
I love this video, great content. This is the video I've waited for, it's made to order. I'm a hobby musician, and I've chosen your route. Instead of buying one expensive horn, I've gone for well made Chinese saxophones instead. That way I could build a nice collection of horns. I think you're take on the quality is spot on, and I agree in your analysis. Well built beautiful instruments come out of China these days. Thank you
I completely agree with your conclusion. But, I'm biased caused I bought 3 sax's from China with a lot of legwork to find good sellers. I think they look and play as good as I'll ever be.
Thanks for this very interesting video. The problem is that we hear everything and the opposite of everything about saxes made in China. And there are very few chances to try them. Most of the time you are forced to buy them online not knowing what you will receive. Can you indicate some Chinese manufacturers and some reliable shops to purchase an honest quality sax? Cordial greetings.
gosh I see a bari replica on dhgate but im very scared to drop the money and get scammed or have the horn ruined but then again what if its good and just needs a few tweaks like pads or springs id hold out for a repairman too
Yeah that's tough. Honestly I'd suggest saving up an extra couple thousand and instead buying a Sakkusu Bari from Sax.co.uk. I bought mine for super cheap brand new and it plays amazing. Incredible quality for the price point.
I've been buying from Eastern on eBay. So far I have three tenor saxes from them, 3 Guardala mouthpiece copies (great), and 2 solid silver tenor necks. All very good. I recently sold my vintage Mk VI, and use the Chinese horns on my gigs now. I might be crazy, but I prefer the sound I'm getting with the Chinese horns over the Mk VI. Playability is almost as good also.
Danny you ever hear or come across a company called JZ ..I think Chinese made..I am just getting started on baritone saxophone and a local shop has a new JZ baritone saxophone..

Your playing is way better than the sound that emanates from the saxes!
