i like the story about my continent, but as a person who speaks swahili i would like whoever narrated this to know that 'simba' means lion. We dont base our language on hollywood character names on movies
The narrator did not say your language is based on Hollywood, or The Lion King, they said that an infrastructure project, I think it was an underwater pipeline, that an American company was laying down in Africa was called Simba based on the Lion King movie. The American company named the project Simba based on what they understand, irrespective of any region’s language.
Why!!! This always puzzles me, why westerns talk about Africa like it's a single country, there's more diversity in language, religion, currency, economy... In Africa that are in Europe and Asia.
Because we are uneducated regarding Africa, my friend. We have only been taught that Africa=slaves, starving people, AIDS, and Ebola.I have been shocked to see this video of a modernized Africa. I realize how ignorant I've been now.😔 Much love from Alabama, USA.
Youre right Africa is more diverse but in regards to genetic make up, ecosystems and spoken and written languages. Asia is larger than Africa, so its safe to say its more diverse than Africa with economical development, topography and climate.

@@acidtears Don't twist my words. I said *exploit*. Not enslave. Do you think capitalist from the west or China are going to Africa because they are kind hearted people? IF the west really wanted to help Africa develop, they'd help them with that, they'd teach African to fish, instead of offering them a fish meal for a day.
This belief that Africa needs “help” is just ridiculous. Africa needs to be left alone to develop however each country decides, the same as all these western nations did. The “help” has done nothing but under-develop Africa and enrich everyone else. Utterly ridiculous. The stories of altruism & “complexity” that they tell themselves are nothing more than attempts to hide the truth. Sick of it.

As much as I would like for this to be the case I don’t see citizens of African countries benefiting from this at all, instead i see large corporations targeting a growing market out of their own self interest
Of course large corps will benefit, but regardless as the market in Africa grows it will be inevitable for Africans to reap the benefits. Their will be more job opportunities, more opportunities for Africans to start their own business, more access to internet, more education, etc. This all leads to development and a higher standard of living.

It's not! Go see for yourself. In some countries the development that has taken place in the last ten years, is more than they have done alone in the previous fifty. Of course there are elements of financial crime, but which country in this world developed without hiccups and growing pains?
There are young people who need jobs, graduated college with degrees they are not putting to use. It is also getting more difficult for them to travel out of the continent for more opportunities. So if they can't make their bread at home or abroad, what do you want them to do? And don't try to talk about farming or starting a poultry farm because not everyone wants to live only to farm. Some people want to win in technology, some people want to invest, and some people have big dreams. Even Rwanda does business with other countries. The only thing I would suggest is that countries in Africa be more aware of who they are doing business with. But I think in this day of technology a lot more people are going to be more transparent and more aware of what's going to happen. One of the reasons why the Slave Trade happened was due to the lack of transparency. When the lights are off people tend to start doing whatever they want because no one is watching. But when the lights are on and they realize people are watching they will be very careful of how they act.
@@Ada-zg2qb completely agree whole heartedly. My concern is are they gonna give these people what their worth and not short change them when they create these jobs.
@@Derelyn Yeah I'm concerned as well. But I realize that may happen at first due to the currency exchange and the fact that some African countries are willing to get paid less just to grab the opportunity only in the beginning. I have a cousin who got hired by a French bank and they're paying him $500 a month. He's still able to pay his bills and have a good quality of life but due to the internet, he knows he can get alot more per month and use his skills to build something. These same foreign companies did the same thing with China and India, but luckily those countries figured them out and dominated the tech industry. I wouldn't be surprised if these foreign companies are coming to Africa simply because they feel they can pay them less and influence them for the time being. So I am hoping and praying and assuming that the African countries participating in this may react the same way India and China did. If this doesn't work, then we're screwed.

We are going to change how the world is run.
I love how people are so quick to point out western exploitation without considering China's exploitation and how bad it is. I'd take investments in startups over offering insane loans to governments any day
In South Africa during 70's and 80's we knew technology, we had infrastructure, surbs, cities, cars, jewelleries, strong economy, etc
