  • CHEAP, JUNKYARD 4.8L POWER MODS. WHAT CAM SHOULD I RUN IN MY 4.8L? CAN I MAKE 500 HP WITH MY 4.8L? CAN I RUN NITROUS ON MY 4.8L? SHOULD I RUN A BIG CAM ON MY 4.8L? WHICH INTAKE SHOULD I PICK FOR MY 4.8L? WILL A SINGLE PLANE MAKE MORE POWER THAN A DUAL PLANE ON A CARBURETED LS? WILL A CARB MAKE MORE POWER THAN EFI? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I RAN A STOCK 4.8L ON THE DYNO, THEN ADDED A MILD CAM AND NITROUS TO THE EFI COMBO. I THEN COMPARED THE EFI INTAKE TO CARBURETED INTAKE. I ALSO COMPARED A SINGLE PLANE TO A DUAL PLANE CARBURETED INTAKE ON THE LITTLE 4.8L!

I'd like to see some tests on the msd timing controller. I have a Holley sniper on a stock 5.3. With the msd box. And it runs good. Starts good. Even in cold weather. But I tried several different carbs on it. And they all had a slight hesitation off idle. Has a Holley dual plane intake on it as well. I'm a bit of a 4.8 fan for a daily driver. I've had the one with the 706 heads in my truck 19 years now and use to get 24mpg out of it on interstate with 3.73 gears before they started dumping ethanol in fuel. Really torn between going 4.8 or 5.3 for my 85 el camino. I'd like more torque for my nice weather daily driver but I'd really like decent fuel mileage as well. The El gets 21mpg now out of the very tired 4.3 non overdrive 5 cylinder 😂😂 and a 4.8 with the cam in the video would be 3 times the hp and +130tq compared to what the 4.3 in my car was originally rated at 125hp @ 4,000 and 210tq at 2,000. Currently waiting on the fuel tank, pump, filter and lines to come in. I bet a 4.8 with a 4l60e and factory towing stall out of a 2500 truck and 3.23 gears would be alright and still get decent mileage being I run basically all highway.

@@ZONES89RS it depends if you want the extra fuel mileage though. I have yet to see a 5.3 get 24mpg in a full size extended cab at 80mph. My 4.8 gmc has the 3.73 gear with 30'' tires. The equivalent gearing for the El camino's 26'' tire would be a 3.23 to keep the engine rpm the same for mph. My little 4.8 can still roast a tire from a light so I imagine it would be fairly peppy in a nearly 1,500lb lighter vehicle. Spanish league with a mild stall.
