Newbie cake maker here. Never worked with fondant before. My board is 14x14. How much fondant do I use and how thin do I roll it down too? BEST TUTORIAL ON THIS EFFECT IVE SEEN. THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🙏🏼💯🙌🏻
This is marvelous and you are genious!!! I am thinking about baking an "instrument themed cake" and this makes things so much easier! At first i was thinking of a buttercream top, as it will be a birthday cake and was searching ways to make it look like wood, but that was kind of hopeless.. I suppose this is the best way! Thank you for sharing!
Great tutorial! I think your best tip was to roll the marbled fondant in one direction and then add the extra fondant in length to the width.....REALLY helped me! Thank you!
Chinwendu Ramsay Thanks for watching. Unfortunately this was a little while back now so I am not sure the specific colours I used, just a mix of brown fondants. Sorry that I cannot be of further help
Beautiful! I am assuming I can use the same technique to decorate a sheet cake? What would you recommend for making the floor look shiny, I am going for more of a bowling lane feel. I appreciate your help.
Thanks so much for watching my wood effect cake decorating tutorial Dorene :) Yes this will work to decorate a sheet cake. You can purchase edible gloss which should do the job perfectly :)
Hello Zoe, Really great technique. You make it look so easy, beautiful and very effective wooden detail. I love everything you make. Thanks for sharing. I've been asked to make a cake for a roofer. Could you tell me how would you do the roof? The shape and tiles? Thanks a lot.
Great tutorial!!! :)And now just place the cake ontop? Or do i cut the circle out using wat ever size cake board i will be doing the cake? Im just wondering if i put a two tier 6"&8" cake ontop of the fondanted board will it bulge out the sides or look like its sinking in to the fondant wood? Lol hope i didnt confuse you! ;)
Hi Alma, Give the board a day to dry then the cake wont sink in to it :) Cut the bit in the middle so its slightly smaller than the cake you will be putting on it. Hope that helps :)
Hi Zoe.....another great tutorial. I was wondering how this method would translate into icing a standard square cake. What are your thoughts? I have a butchers block cake to make......cheers.....Diane x
Its a while since I made this one, so I cant remember the exact size, but I would say it was a 7 or 8 inch board. It will keep for weeks once iced. You are best to ice it in advance and let it set for a couple of days, this way your cake won't sink into it or mark it in any way :) Hope this helps.
can i do that with any fondant brand ? yours seems to be softer than the one i usually use or something, not sure if i can find that brand here (i live in perú)
Hi Zoe best tutorial could I please ask I need to cover a 14" board how much sugar paste do you think I will need to stick to this rolling technique as I can't roll horizontally Also could I use confectioners glaze to give a shiny floor board effect?

thank you very much
Thank you:)
Hi Zoe, love your work! Had a question, is water an alternative to glaze spray for a shiny effect? If not, what else could be used? Thank you!
Taniya Warrier you could crisco or vodka to shine your fondant
thank you for sharing 😊
Tinker Bell Thanks for watching :)
what size of cake board is that?:) and how far in advance can you make it? any cakes slightly heavy so it won't sink in or wreck the fondant will it?
Its a while since I made this one, so I cant remember the exact size, but I would say it was a 7 or 8 inch board.

mizz gee Thanks for watching! I would probably use a 1kg pack of fondant, possibly more just to be safe! Using the glaze should be fine too :)
Verry nice
