Hi Ken, great shave, thanks! This razor is the last DE survivor which is still available in stores here in Germany, but he is disappearing more and more. It is THE beginners razor and is only 3.50 € w/ 5 blades - great piece!
    Best regards, Dan.

This is my everyday razor. It works fantastic on sensitive skin, and the fact that the head snaps in to place and automatically lines up the blade is a big help for those days when you've just gotta get a quick shave going. Of course, on occasion I get too confident due to it's mildness. That's one thing to watch out for. Nonetheless, great video as always and glad to hear your mother is doing better.

This shave was one of the first I've seen where the Wilkinson Sword razor produced loud, efficient audio feedback! Well done, Ken! You found the best angle to utilize this normally mild shaver's cutting power. This is not an exaggeration! I've seen countless shave videos featuring this razor, paired with a plethora of of blade brands. None of which produced the sheer volume of stubble reduction in stereo. By far one of your best demonstrations. I raise my pint to you, Ken. Cheers. p.s. I'm happy to hear of your mom's recovery.

(after a long time) I've got the other Wilkinson Sword razor (the TTO) coming tomorrow, but your experience with this one mirrors my own, hence it being so good to watch.

Just started DE shaving for the first time and am using this razor and blade. Ordered it on Amazon and it was just under $8. Shipped from the UK. Working fine. Not cutting myself so a good intro razor. I do have a fair bit of razor burn on my neck but so far it is a good intro to DE shaving.

Hey there I'm 15 years old and have just started shaving with a safety razor. I used to use a gillette sensor excel and now I use a weishi twist to open razor as my main razor with Derby extra blades. I got the Wilkinson sword razor from my local pharmacy the other day for £6.99 which I thought was very reasonable. Overall its a good razor and I recommend you try ingrams shaving cream from a tube I know you're more into soaps but I suggest you give it a try if you can get it in the US if not I'd be happy to send you a tube. Thanks again, Archie

Hi. I just recently started wet shaving. I bought a Van der hagen and used it with the blades that it came with. And boy it was such a painful experience. Blood everywhere and not to mention a painful razor burn. So, rather than giving up on wet shaving I went to my local deli and picked up the wilkson razor blade to see if it would make a difference. And wow, what a difference. Just 1 nick and no painful razor burn. Granted I have to work on my we shaving skills but the razor made a difference.

Thanks for the vid. I started wet shaving with my dad's old vintage Gillette a long time ago. The Wilkinson Classic was the first safety razor I ever purchased - decades ago. The were and still are readily available at pharmacy shops in Canada. For me, the Wilkinson blades don't work. The ones you buy over the counter are not the European/German ones available at some better shave vendors. They always drag and are poor performers on my face. Now I've been wet shaving for over 20 years, have a collection addiction, have over 30 razors... But I gave that one away years ago. Good thing about the Wilkinson Classic for starters - there is no overhang - so ears and nose bottoms stay safe.
    Cheers,
    John

For your information Ken, Wilkinson Sword is a old established English manufacturer of military edged weapons, as the name suggests.
The factories being originally located on Tyneside in the northeast of England. I believe most, if not all Wilkinson Sword shaving products are now made in Germany, but the ornate ceremonial swords are still made in England. These swords are still used in formal dress by the British Army, including the royal household guards.
Indeed, when you receive your knighthood for services to shaving, Her Majesty will tap you on the shoulder with a Wilkinson sword.

    Wow.
I never thought I'd see anyone using a Safety Razor, let alone a NEW ONE.
I loved using my (collection) of (very old) & (newer) Gillette & Wilkinson S.R. for many years but then suddenly pop all the local stores stopped stocking the Blades.
Last place I could consistently get what I wanted was the old Zellers & The Bay.
Will be on the look out.
btw the last brand I found in Zellers (replacement Blades) were made in Israel.
Always preferred the Gillette as I could get more shaves from them.
The Gillette Blue Blades were the #1 best. I have an antique S.R. Blade sharpener & you could hone them a few times.

Had a couple of those and gave them away before I tried, now I got a couple of the Dorco versions for travel, hope they are good.
I like the idea of an orange shaving sopa as I even like the smell of the original Cremo but most of them have some kind of menthol and I can't really wrapped my head around orange and menthol.

Thin is I've got so many hundreds of blades it's hard to justify a purchase like that, at the same time 100 blades just isn't that much more than say a pack of 10.

I can't believe I watched you shave, and I made a funny face the hole video. This coming from a guy who hates wasting time shaving. I do shave, when the beard is 1/3 inch, but although I have a "classic" style, like this one in the video, I always use Mach3. I LOVE the closeness of the "classic", but always manage to scratch myself specially on the side-burns, even if I take it slow and I pay attention. With Mach3 I can shave even drunk. Maybe I need better tools... Good luck from Romania!

i like it, some say that only "old people" use that aftershave; which i guess it's true. I remember my grandfather using it, but i like it. Some dislike it because it is somewhat strong osor to it, has non of those lotion aftershave properties, and it will sting if you nipped yourself during your shave.

    Hi Ken,
Duly ordered from Amazon and all arrived today.
Just had my first shave, felt great on the cheeks and lip and most of the neck. I've got this weird three inch circumference circle where the bristle grows close to the skin and upwards and I made that bleed a little.
Could do with advice on how to lather the soap please if possible bought Proraso sensitive and agree very nice indeed.
I also suffer from a few spots occasionally after shaving, any tips on how to minimise that also?
I'm 48 next month and feel like you've finally taught me how to shave.
    Regards
    Robert

The temperature here in NYC now is 31º and going down to 26º tonight! It's a bit cooler than your 85º. I'm taking a brisk 4 block walk to the gym shortly. Once that 12 mph wind hits you, you wake up pretty quickly before a morning workout.
The blade pack appears to be the Wilkinson Swords that are made in Germany although the plastic pack itself looks a bit different. I rarely get more than 5 shaves with a blade and I got 20 from my last Wilkinson Sword! How would you compare it to the vintage made in the UK Wilkinson's you bought a few months ago? Many on the forums feel they're nearly the same.
The Wilkinson Wikipedia entry states this razor is made for the European market. Isn't it amazing that all the US shaving manufacturers seem to ensure few DE products as possible are on the shelves here so the consumer is forced to buy those overpriced cartridges?
You might find this article by Bruce on Shaving re: the Wilkinson Classic interesting. He uses it for the 3rd pass and feels it's so mild that you can buff as much as you want for extra closeness.

The most amazing of them all is Proctor & Gamble who owns Gillette. Not only do they license a bunch of DE blade brands made in Russia, but the Old Spice aftershave that's licensed for the India market is closer to the original and has more longevity, There's a Old Spice Lime and Old Spice Musk that's produced there that they won't distribute here (I've tried to find out why. You may find this thread interesing:

I have a Wilkinson Sword Classic. The head slightly shakes from side to side. I don't know what caused this problem. Maybe it's because I've lceaned it with CIF Bathroom Ultrafast(www.cif.ro/produs/detaliu/1021555/cif-bathroom) and the screw from inside the razor is damaged.

There's also a white plastic package that's made in Germany and I'm not sure if there's a difference. The India version in the paper box is supposed to be smooth but not as sharp as the German made version.

There's an interesting post in this Shavenook forum thread by Greek Guy. I'd be interested to know what UK version of Wilkinson Sword Ken bought several months ago.
      shavenook.com/showthread.php?tid=3786&pid=56611#pid56611
"The vintage English made blades are outstanding. The most recent ones, which look like the German production except made in England, are nearly identical to the German ones, and while acceptable, are nothing to write home about.
A good rule of thumb is that if the blade pack looks like the modern production versions, then its best to avoid, or at least don't expect anything special. The vintage packs look different, most notably that the packs do not have any grooves on them, but rather look like a plain rectangle. They came in various varieties. The most hyped of these being the "Light Brigade" which says "The Blade" on the package. My personal opinion is that while these are good blades, or fantastic blades would be more apt, they really don't perform much differently than the other Wilkinson blades from the era, and that's a very very high bar."
