The honda del sol, ive owned both a miata and a del sol, and to a point I can say the del sol was more fun than the miata, especially since my del sol was stick and my miata (nc) was not, i love them both but something about the design and feel of the del sol just really hit the spot 🙏

If you drive it hard enough, and/or do it deliberately, any sports car will spin out, the key being to keep it under control. The best sports cars can be kept in control easily, at least by a skilled driver. Miatas must be among the best sports cars, because they are so sharp, even tempered and intuitive. Love mine!

    • @yankee2yankee216
      @yankee2yankee216 3 роки тому

@Chewy Tortle Are you driving a good one, or a tired example? They have no power amenities (most do have power steering), but they're generally regarded as easy to drive... I find mine to be easy to drive, though she's at her best on narrow, twisty roads. Highways are not her forte, but in terms of total fun, especially in terms of bang for buck (but even independent of cost, to some degree), a Miata can't be beat.
Would invite you to explain what you mean by "hard to drive."

I don't often disagree with David, but I think this couldn't be further off the money. Early miatas in particular are very vague, but are great 7 or 8-tenths cars, meaning they're best when you're not pushing them to their absolute limits. A lot of the best drivers i know personally have binned a miata at least once because they're pretty easy to lose control of on the limit because they're vague at 10/10.

If you own a Miata and have never spun it, you still don't know its limit, and that's sad. I grew up on Gran Tourismo, a 95 NA MX5 with a manual transmission and an LSD on the rainy streets of Seattle. I assure you the traffic behind me have on occasion seen my headlights. Just a few revs and clutch kick will right that car nearly around its axis. So hang that ass out! Get greedy! Live your life!

As an NC owner, I have to say that all of the generations of the Miata fit your description of reliability and fun. I swapped out the engine on mine to a 2.5 liter with a turbo. I am pushing about 300 hp at the wheel and it is sooooooo much fun. I added around 30 lbs to the car doing this, but I am still close to that 50/50 weight ratio and the handling on it is still excellent. If you ever get the chance, try driving an NC with that setup. I think you will find them a blast!

I really wanna get a Miata as my first car even tho it has very little space for storage but I wouldn´t mind it. It seems fun and a good first car to start my journey to driving

Get the Mx5 Parts exhaust! I've got the full one, with decat. Is not disturbing loud and looks awesome! Plus is silly cheap compared to the competition. I run pop and bangs map on it and it just never cracked

I've seen so many Miata videos lately that I'm definitely trying to grab one around February when the prices are still low from winter.
I originally planned on getting one then I decided to get a MK4 Golf GTI. It was great car though. It was a Imola Yellow 20th. With no resonator or muffler and a tune and blow off valve. It crackled and popped. It tore off the front tires. I never laughed so much driving a car. Sadly, I had to catch up in spring with a massive plumbing bill and I sold it.
Now, I'm pretty certain I'm gonna end up in a Miata next spring. I'm still back and forth if I want an NA8 or an NB2.

The raw analog feel is one reason I still choose to drive a 99 SVT Contour as a daily. The price and feel of the car just felt right for what I was looking for. Plus it confuses people when they see it which is a plus.

I know this is an old video but I have a racing beat midpipe and a cobalt axle back it it sounds REALLY good with no rasp. If you wanted the volume you could probably run the midpipe with a straight pipe back.

Exhaust suggestion! Magnaflow catback. It’s a bit louder but not too loud. More importantly, it sounds mature. Doesn’t sound like a cheap can

I've had moments where I've had lift off oversteer, understeer with full panic brake locking, and spin outs on cali canyon roads... by no means am I even a decent driver, but I've done everything in a miata and sure enough im still alive.
If you guys ever get yourself a miata, work your way into it with some quality coil-overs (flyin miata, xidas, ohlins), sway bar + end links, and a set of bushings! I'd recommend going 15x7 wheels, 15x8 if boosted.

On my 1992 1.6 na Mx5 I have long tube headers and a high flow cat which came with the car when I bought it, then from the cat back I have a 2 inch mild steel exhaust from the cat back with a hotdog muffler and a regular muffler and it sounds good it’s a bit loud on the highway but on a twisty road with the top down it’s great

I own Civic VI Aerodeck now , it somehow simmilar to miata ... even more of a sleeper but still slow ... but every time you rev it up you smile and it corners much better than you expect :D
Very mechanical feeling , very old style :D

David, to fix your brake issue upgrade the pads to more aggressive hawk pads. The store bought ones are to soft making the pedal feel squishy

Racing Beat sport exhaust is a pretty good bet. No resonator compared to their normal aftermarket exhaust but it doesn't rasp, I believe you will need to get their specific connecting pipe.

As for the exhaust, I've done some research and I think the ISR Circuit Spec system is probably the best, if not one of the best exhaust systems for the NA Miata, they seem hard to find at the moment though

It’s so true about not knowing what they are until you drive them. I work at a car dealer and I literally never even gave Miata’s a second thought until we sold a couple and when I started driving them they were ridiculously fun lol I love the fact that when you push them hard they naturally oversteer lol

I won my Miata 2002 w 54,000 super clean miles in a bet. W hardtop. Friend challenged me to come to st. Pete Fla to start car after sitting for 2 1/2 years in car port under covers.
If I could start by end of day he’d sell for $2,500! If I could start under 2-3 hours it was $1,500. So I said under 1 hour for free.
45 minutes later I won my car. After all, I was a Porsche tech in college in 80’s!! And after selling w 200,000 I still dream of replacement.
Btw. Miata is only car w zip out rear window. Best feature ever when too hot & sunny. But cruising over 40mph.
Best momentum racer in twisties ever.
Great channel. Great energy. 👍 cheers.

i found this video today, because at age 48 i got to drive a 95 miata owned by a 23 year old co worker this am. and yes i DROVE IT. god damn that statement about understanding why people like them is spot on. the car is a BLAST. I've driven much faster cars but i've never driven a car that much FUN before. I gave him his car back at the end and all i could say is, i'd get a ticket real fast in one.

I'm glad I bought my NA8 when I did. It's just an all around good car. Its comfortable for me, especially on a typical 45 minute commute to town as I live in the country. It may be my sole vehicle and daily, I can have a bad day at work but have such a blast tooling around in my Miata that by the time I get home I'm like "why was I mad?"
The miata is a car to experience when you drive it. Like, you Need to actually drive it and I mean Drive it. My daughter absolutely loves it, so there's that.
There's so much room for upgrades on all levels. From OEM+ to Wild.
