Being Italian, we were told not to add any oil to the boiling water; the reason is that oil will coat most of the pasta and it will make the sauce very hard to actually “stick” to the pasta. I only add oil to the water when cooking lasagna sheets (either fresh or dry). That wil be because the oil helps the sheets not to stick.
yep, was taught that and I'm not of Italian descent. :) As for the garlic noodles, I find it interesting that butter is added and not sesame oil, usually toasted sesame oil.

Hold the pasta firmly with one hand, while gently twisting in the opposite direction. Don't twist hard. Just a slight turn. It works every time. If you don't twist you are just dropping it in the pan. No spiral at all. And its true, do not add any oil. Sauce won't cling to the pasta. I started cooking at 6. I'm 75 now. @Falahola316 No because the oil and water stay separate cause they have different consistency. So the oil doesn't help the noodles in any way. If you don't want them to stick I suggest stirring them every once in a while
@@Falahola316it doesn’t do anything. The oil never mixes with the water, sits right on top and is poured out when you drain the noodles. Save your oil, add a little of oil after they’re fully drained if you want to avoid any potential sticking.
@@johnd1047 to debate this, if you add oil to the water before the noodles, wouldn’t oil get on the noodles once you put them in the water? Therefore preventing them from sticking for awhile?
@ I love it! Only temporarily will the oil come in contact with the noods. Water and oil repel one another, water is denser, as well as a higher surface tension. What’ll happen is some of the oil will briefly *stick* to the noodle, but once the noodles with oil hit the water, the water will *absorb* into the noodle and the oil will float to the top of the pot.
