It's red probe to ground because you're measuring esd protection diodes which are normally reverse biased. Red to ground forward biases them and you get the ~0.5v drop.

I've checked every connector on my dead boot Mi 11 and while a few are out of spec, I have no short to ground. What would be the next step?
All videos I've seen fix a dead boot by reballing the Snapdragon 888 but how do you actually diagnose it first?
