It seems like they actually take it seriously because, I don't have a huge budget but, I've had very rich people either recognize what I was wearing or ask about it. Granted the average person would still tell me what a waste of money they are because a cellphone has a "clock".

To be fair to him many serious watch collectors see these as genuine financial investments that hold and probably gain value, just like art collectors.
So he isn't just buying them to floss for some hoes. HOWEVER to risk $3million on a watch collection (his total collection value) you would assume he must be worth at least a couple of $100million, at least. Not Bill Gates rich but not your average bloke either.
