I’ve never understood the snobbery around quartz watches, particularly quality Japanese and Swiss movements. I have five autos and four quartz in my small collection but my go to daily wear midweek is always a quartz model. Are there actually people out there who won’t wear a watch just because it’s quartz? Love this watch and your review.
Personally, quartz has its place as an “I don’t give a flying f*ck” watch, you wear it because it’s cheap and you aren’t worried if something happens to it; ie gshocks and the like. Automatic and mechanical is more for the artistry and design elements. If I have to choose between a GS quartz and a casioak, I’m buying the gshock. If I have to choose between an GS automatic or GS quartz, I’ll take the mechanical/auto/spring.
Did a great job there of selling me on a GS Quartz Russ! Been looking at a couple of these in the 2.5-3k range. Definitely appreciate the info on the movement. Clearly another level!!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Its a beautiful thing , to be sure. Almost perfection, except the 19 mm thing 🤨 Nice though, I have always enjoyed a nice quartz movement myself. 👍
Russel… I’ve had an infatuation with the Grand Seiko for a while now… the spring drive keeps my heart fluttering and eyes twinkling… but the finesse of this quartz engine is a heart stopper! Great compliment for such a beauty of a watch brand!
I just can't stop smiling when i'am enjoying your presentation , this one was educational as well being extremely amusing. Just keep em comming Russell and well done again !
I had one of these and it was an incredible watch, but for some reason I didn’t bond with it. I think part of it is that I just don’t use a GMT function. Instead the king of Quartz watch that stayed in my collection is my “The Citizen” AQ4020-54Z. It has a Quartz movement with similar levels of horological advancement, plus a perpetual calendar, independent hour hand, and +/- 5 seconds per year. Plus it is titanium, solar powered, and a beautiful textured dial. I think perpetual calendar, independent hour hand, and high accuracy is the ultimate grab and go watch. The only time you need to pull out the crown is when you travel, and even then you don’t need to ruin the accuracy
This is actually one of my all time fav Grand Seikos! I borrowed this one not long ago, and MAN IT WON ME OVER! Sits perfect on the wrist, such a cool watch. GET IN!
Awesome show as always MWC! I’m guilty of often feeling a bit cold towards quartz movements (other than Casio and lower end beaters of course) but not all quartz movements are created equal and Grand Seiko are the absolute masters of this sort of high end quartz movement. You throw in Grand Seikos legendary dials, finishing and attention to detail and it’s no doubt something really special!
I know I'm late to the party, but here's what I think about this watch: This one is absolutely marvellous! Pretty close to perfect. I bought one second hand a year ago, in perfect condition and for a good price. It's definitely a keeper! If I was allowed only one watch, this would probably be the one.
Awesome run down mate, actually learnt a lot about this movement and watch. It's an absolute stunner and paired with the pinnacle of quartz tech what is not to love. Very enjoyable review as always Russ

The hairspring gear is an ingenious invention phasing that second hand to hit the markers perfectly absolutely brilliant when it comes to quartz design. And speaking of the quartz crystal being specially picked its the proper making and growing of the Rochelle salt that makes the best frequency especially if there are no contaminants in the crystal. Another ingenious art. Great video and great watch 👍👍
Now we are talking .. you have found out a hidden gem ! Have owned this since a year now and it’s simply awesome .. I call it “Orange is the new black” watch!
Good points! I have the very similar Grand Seiko quartz SBGX261G. 37mm with the same black dial and date window. I love it! The lugs, as you suggest, turn down below the case back which makes for a wonderfully snug fit on the wrist with no visible back plate thanks to the relatively narrow depth. The bracelet is silky and robust. The Cartier de Santos is comfortable too and that case and glass is curved which adds sophistication. But full marks to the GS at £2100.
Yes I’m pretty ‘geeked’ out over this one! For me personally I’m more interested in this than the ‘Spring Drive”…IMO either be quartz OR be mechanical! The Spring Drive is neither and it cost an arm and a leg! This one just costs an arm!!! Thanks for the fun review!
Great GADA watch, was considering the Omega aqua terra but this one is half the price and no worries ever about servicing costs, the bracelet is almost as bad as the aqua terra but at least it has a folding clasp and no polished centre links!
Loved the review. Bought mine 6 weeks ago from Ryan at Francis and Gaye he is a great guy and I would definitely recommend him. Quartz was not on my radar until I discovered the 9F and now I am a total covert. Looks awesome, keeps great time, cheap to run and grab and go convenience.

Solid review, and I am glad you covered this model. I've had this on the wrist, and it's such a great watch. I can appreciate the high quality engineering that went into this quartz movement. This one is on my list as possible watches for my big milestone birthday this year, but so is the SBGM245 (auto GMT). I like the size of the auto a little better on my 18.4cm wrist (plus I'm 2.01m tall). I'm not totally fond of the date position on the auto, but it doesn't overly bother me. It also has 4 micro adjustments! The one thing that I find silly is Grand Seiko only put lume on the 3/6/9/12 indices. What?? Give a watch 200m WR, then don't even lume every hour? What gives, GS? I don't think it's a deal breaker, but they're so close to perfect. The Snowflake is also on the list (love that smooth sweep/blued seconds hand/textured dial).

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR good point but must be more to it than that, plenty brands have watches for daft money that are far more inferior, i am sure influencers could bag one for a review and give an honest opinion?
Great review. I really enjoy the different segments. I thought the sapphire had a slight dome, but no biggie. I had a GS quartz antimag but sold it. Just didn't bond (liked it on paper but not in the flesh). I'd advise to not buy one unless you see it in hand first. I will go for a other GS at some point but not unless I can hold it first.
That’s a great point particularly with big money purchases like this ! I have ended up buying this one;) it was too perfect for my wrist not to! A spring drive movement makes the case a little thick for my liking but I have no doubt it’ll be in my collection one day!
Great review, i'm looking to buy the SBGN003 (if i can get one) and was wondering how you have got on with it over the last year? I'm leaning towards the black dial rather than the blue, but both look stunning.
This is a great watch but like you i get really frustrated with watch brands making odd number lug widths! That would actually stop me buying this watch. Everything else is awesome but it's not a Flightmaster so please GS put a proper lug width in please!

Shuttttup and take my money ! Oh my that is gorgeous. Great review Russ, brilliantly done.
Cheers Ian! They took mine!!!!;)
Love the "wife's thoughts" section, genuinely makes me laugh.
Mark! Appreciate you watching!
You could simply buy a 19mm NATO and leather strap. Over in the UK, I think watchgecko can oblige at local rates without import taxes. :)
Great review, i'm looking to buy the SBGN003 (if i can get one) and was wondering how you have got on with it over the last year? I'm leaning towards the black dial rather than the blue, but both look stunning.
I went "full geek" on this video... Haha. Great stuff Russ
Hahahahaha top level!
I don’t know how the hell I ended up here, but I gotta say this guy is entertaining
Hahahahaha well I call it fait my friend! Glad to meet you and welcome to the channel!
This is a great watch but like you i get really frustrated with watch brands making odd number lug widths! That would actually stop me buying this watch. Everything else is awesome but it's not a Flightmaster so please GS put a proper lug width in please!
Hahahahaha well said my friend!
MWC Most entertaining watch review channel on UA-cam.
Doug you are a legend thank you!
