These old films are a real treasure. All extremely interesting. Thanks so much for sharing them with everyone!
this is my style championed by bill mattix who awarded me sho-dan status 50 years ago. bill was student of yamashita in grand rapids. that saif, this is probably best explaination of singular movements that define actions . cheers well done and ty to poster
true and his pinan bonkai's are great.. loads of new ways of thinking of things..i truly love the pinan shodan bonkai...
Very enjoyable, thank you!
Oss!
@karatekid68 Yes, I know several high dan masters of several kai-ha that received high Dan grades at a young age. Shogo Kuniba comes to mind he was 35 ish when he was named the head of his father's Seishin Kai. Not everyone felt the need to follow the DNBK rules on age vs. dan rank.
It was taken at Nagimine Sensei's school in the 60's
The bo kata at 7:00 I learned as Nagamine no Kun. It is titled as Bojutsu Shirataro no kata -in English translation, minor differences, may be by the cut old film, any comments?
At that time the kata hadn't the opportunity to diverge as much as they have as of today. I have a tape of Eizo Sensei doing kata in the late 60's but sadly it is a copy of a copy of 8 m.m. and is very blurry. Too blurry to post.
I began my practice in Matsubayashi Ryu with Akamine, Shigehide Sensei in Argentina(6 years) and enjoyed the visit of Nagamine Sensei in the 70's. What can I do to download the video to my PC?
do u have the address to his old dojo? i like looking @ history.
The correct name is Shirataro no Kun or as you have stated above. Possibly someone in your lineage did not get the correct name and just called it Nagamine no Kun for quick reference.
@karatekid68 Who are u talking about? Nagamine Sensei was the founder of Matsubayashi Ryu. You may want to check Wikipedia for his bio.
how could he be 9th dan in 60' ?
@NewEnglandBudo I know who he is, but in the 60', he was young, 50 years old??
See the info I sent u via PM
