its great to see a uk lad make crackin vids on basic stuff like this, love the presentation n honest approach, very well done m8 thanks, liked n subbed!
I had a number of slingshots years ago, and this has rekindled my interest!
Rekindled - as in kindling wood? Perish the thought. Gives me hot flashes.
I watched this video when it first came on and I’m still watching it 6years later and still love it 😂💯Gamekeeper John 👌
Apple! One of the hardest woods you can get in the UK. When I'm pruning my orchard, larger limbs take some work. Hawthorn and blackthorn are good seconds.
Thanks for this. Haven’t had one for nearly forty years. This saves me money to see if I’m still capable of drawing one. Smashed my left forearm and wrist since then. So yeah cheers mate.
Greetings from U.S.A. i make my own slingshots too. your rap and tug method with the sting is very nice. i will use that next time! thank you. Desert Rat.
Thanks to your jacket all I saw was a head and hands it freaked me out, your were blending 🤣 love your videos!
Mate this is a really helpful no nonsense video, thanks.
John ... Beautiful job; better video. Fun is now to be had!!! Enjoyed the video; thanks!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠
Thank you for your work and your channel🙏
Wish I had you known in my childhood 😉😎
Like always a great job and very informative 👍👍👍
With the best wishes from lower saxony🙋
Lovely naturals, nice work
Just the vid I was looking for! Fork found today and now ready for bands. Cheers Mate.
thanks once again john for the time and effort much appreciated, do you ever use tube elastic and what are your thoughts on it cheers..
moonbear tube is not my favourite elastic however I know several top shooters who use it both for hunting and target shooting and get great results
cheers bud..
Good knowledge 👌 for slingshots 😊 thanks
I finally got my Phoenix . Thanks. It is AMAZING
Bob Jefferson how long did it take?
Those are just beautiful. I feel compelled to make some natty's after watching this.

I like....... Is it art of course it is it's creativity
John! Love the videos and catapults! After watching your video a few months ago I went and harvested a nice "scrub oak" fork on a live tree. It seemed a bit "moist" so I set the fork in a closet to dry. A month later, I had the itch to work on it, and I noticed that there were small cracks forming at each of the 3 ends. My question is: Once those cracks form... is the fork now firewood and useless as a catapult? Question 2: How could I have avoided the cracks? Cheers!
I've had the same experience with cracks. Been trying different ways but this is what I'll do next:
1) cut them longer than I need
2) strip the bark and ideally rough out while the wood's green, dip all three ends in latex paint or melted wax (wax seems better) then leave for a couple months
3) shave off the hardened exterior wood, finish carving if you want, leave for another month or two
4) remove wax, sand, oil
The idea of dipping is to slow otherwise very quick evaporation from the ends. I saw people suggest it elsewhere and it's working for me. I don't have a microwave, but I tried the oven and got splits. Using holly, birch and some unknown forks.
Looking to learn and help others, not telling people how to do anything.

@@p8iy7ushn Those who create walking/hiking sticks also seal the ends to slow down moisture evaporation. Long stick, Y shaped stick, they're all the same ; )
100% better video presentation, than you did 5 years ago
Must be paying, this catapult game !!😎😎
Nice one John just found this vid...will be watching more !!
I like to get my forks from fallen pieces that aren’t totally dead yet, preferably after it has set for 2-3 weeks. but I instead take it to the oven after stripping the bark and put em in the oven for 3 hours at 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
For me I find this makes the wood a little stronger
How long does it take for it to dry out
do you put anything under the band's like another piece of theraband to protect against getting cut on the fork or is straight contact fine
Michael Tucker
Tucker Outdoors i guess so
For forks sake it’s mint.
Very excellent catapults 👍 very classic designs for NTFs.
Do you see people use this kind of slingshots in competition
As children we used to go up the trees get a small tree leg break it make a catapult with it using tire copper and go hunting mangoes
I love the brown wood amazing.
fantastic video!
Great stuff as usual John mate.
How long does it take to dry a fork out on a radiator and how long if it was just left in a shed?
Thanks man
Only ever use ones i make myself!! ..Thats the whole point behind it all ..your vids are great though
This guys the best
Gamekeeper John, myself and a friend do pest control in the Northeast of England with Air Rifle's and have started using Catapult's. we have started making are own as well in witch your videos have been very helpful. we are just having a hard time getting leather. can you recamened somewhere to get leather from? pleace thanks. John and Ian
an old sofa,,, i saved the thinnest leather from my old sofa i have probably a couple square feet. its strong and thin enough perfect for pouches. also i reckon any old leather jackets will do.
John Emmerson. get leather from old boot
I use rubber for my pouches. the left overs from flat roofs.
How March theraband gold have you got
Tanks for this video!!!
What steel ball size is most popular / best all rounder?
Which oil do you use for this please?
He used teak oil in this video, but several different oils would work.
Even olive oil from the kitchen
This video is so good I love it
they looking really great
What kind of oil do you use?
Could you make me a Ash fork with theraband gold on it put it on eBay
Really good simple advice 👌
Hi there i just wanted to ask you if you have the same problem with me and how can I fix it. For some reason my bands are breaking in the place that the bands are meeting the wooden frame.
How long would these last?
would pine trees work
dylan dewalt no to brittle and the bark is to thick and so it always turns out to small. they also have very uneven branch's
@@milesisdaddy5506 Pine cones would work if they joined the union. No union? No work!
That is called tirador in the Philllipines ....its a boy toy when computer and cellphone not intoduced here...
Hello, if my folks got a bugs/ termite or something... How to get rid of ??
Bcs mine just get hole in the folks
Put 4 bands and you`ll see the real damage of theraband :)
Good tip
What about the tiny handles on the stretcher?
Left ot right diagonal it all overs the V angle
What is this V angle and what is this smudge cavity?
It seems that after cutting my ss out I cut my forks to length and alls good that is until I turn the my SS around and now one of the forks looks to be longer, what’s with that?
what rubber you use where you can buy

beattiful work
how do you stop the wood cracking whilst it's drying?
Eric put it in the micro wave 30 secs at a time until I steams the water out of it
Sebastian Stone I just put mine in for 30 seconds and a crack opened up. Should I be worried
The_magic_phone_booth Q it’s never happened to me, I get them when they are green and chuck them in the microwave... if they are a smaller stick I’d recommend 20 secs or 10 secs at a time.....
@@themagicphoneboothq4529 Duh.
hello can I get on the rubber you should use and where can I get it because he is strong
👍
what type of oil did ya use?
Wild Outdoors I think he said teak oil. I searched it and it’s a thing pretty common at hardware stores. At first I thought he said tea oil, ha ha.
