Well, I guess it's time to finally review this nightmare of a keyboard. Rarely have I had switches that felt this off-pissing and unnatural. Hope you enjoy my suffering, you sadistic feckers :P .
    My keyboard reviews: bit.ly/1TbOtft
    My switch teardowns: bit.ly/2C1QGHz
    My TOP X videos: bit.ly/2FmpZfd
    My XL typing demos: bit.ly/2OoAW3w
    My tutorials and featurettes: bit.ly/2OrkLUh
I'm Thomas and I do videos and reviews on mechanical keyboards ranging from the most sickening modern RGB gaming keyboards to vintage hardware relics, or sometimes keycaps or keyswitches ranging from Cherry MX to Alps SKCM to IBM buckling springs and anything in between.
Follow me on Twitter for updates on my keyboard videos! / chyrosran22
The practice sentence was: "Hello my name is Thomas and I'm typing on a Copam K-450 right now. Holy shitballs, what a complete awful spectacle this thing is! Typing on it is just unbelievably bad and I can't stand it anymore!"

I remember using a REALLY bad keyboard a few times when I was younger. This sounds like the same kind of key feel I recall that keyboard having. Super short travel, clicky, but with the worst bottom out feeling you could possibly imagine. I think it was also iso with a 1u backspace (which is pretty weird in the USA). It was as thoroughly displeasing of a typing experience as I think I've ever had, barring an office copy machine with a built in keyboard that's just not even worth thinking about.

_Podophile_ had me LOL'ing - watching the video would be worth it for this neologism alone... xD
(It's from the same greek root as octopus, plural "octopodes", for those who wonder - and I guess it would translate to foot-fetishists :)
Lovecraft obviously knew nothing about physics or mathematics, which makes his works (and your reference) partly hilarious.

I'm not a matematician, nor did I read any of Lovecraft's works or their adaptations apart from an anime from 2012 which I'm sure doesn't count. But I have read an article made by the developers of HyperRogue - videogame and engine with various non-euclidean geometries and the conclusion of this article is that the description of weird stuff that happens in R'Lyeh in "The Call of Kthulhu" is a pretty accurate description of what it would be like if a human had suddenly appeared in a world with hyperbolic geometry. Hyperbolic geometry is non-euclidean too and it's remarkable that Lovecraft had described it like this long before computer graphics and videogames like Hyperbolica

I actually just restored one of those - from being REALLY dirty and full of garbage inside, but not worn though. In my opinion it is not as bad as you describe it (I've seen far worse than that) but those swiches really feel weird - like being a little off in every way from what the user may expect. And both Shifts are getting stuck if you won't press them in a place where the switch is - but it may be a result of a slight wear. Ona a plus side it has a AT/XT switch and XT compatible keyboards are not easy to find in my vicinity.

I wonder what specifically in the design of those switches that makes them feel so bad. If I had to guess, there's probably quite a bit of friction between the pusher and the slider. The disconnect between the keyfeel and click is probably because of the sprung pusher starting to push against the membrane which would suddenly change the weighting of the travel, and so likely produces its own "tactile" event apart from the one produced by the click leaf. Past that point, the rest of the post-actuation travel is determined by the spring and pusher, the same way that past a certain point a foam and foil switch's travel is determined by the foam. If this is the case, maybe a bit of lube between the pusher and slider would improve it slightly?

Actually, MS Windows have a pre-installed layout called "Русский Машинопись", which is supposed to more closely resemble the layout of old soviet typewriters. And it's quite similar to layout that is printed on this unit, though those two still have big differences. I don't know much about the history of typing in Russia, but maybe there were many slightly different layouts for typewriters and when computers started to spread - different computer keyboards were getting different layouts too as a result

I'd have one just because of how cool it looks, but that space bar sounds really wrong.

Those caps are beautiful though, too bad it has that weird ANSI/ISO hybrid layout. We're it strictly ANSI I'd be scouring eBay for one.

i feel like i would get one of these if the switches weren't so diabolical. i mean, the keyboard itself and the keycaps look great and the build is pretty good. but the switches seem pretty dreadful unfortunately :(

You know what, I just pulled them out for a test ride, typing on them right now. They are SO MUCH WORSE than even that Copam monstrosity, it's unbelievable! I've been suing it for less than five minutes and already both my forearms are hurting Oo .

The Cyrillic font on this keyboard is atrocious. It looks as if somebody saw Cyrillic letters for the first time and tried to reproduce them by combining random elements of Latin characters.
