take my hat off to you sir, you make boat handling under sail to a mooring look so easy and comfortable. Its not, and this video is a testament to your skill that inspires us all
This video (much like all of your others) continues to keep me motivated in completing the construction of my new sailboat, Kevin. I can't do any hull work right now as this morning's temperature outside was 0 degrees Fahrenheit (about minus 18 degrees Celsius), but I continue with small parts fabrication inside. Every time I watch one of your videos, I picture myself at the tiller standing out to sea once again. You have accomplished much, including your ability to keep this old fart inspired! Once more, I thank you.
You have so many great videos and series of videos to follow on UA-cam. I was elated to come across this one posted just today. Its allowed me to catch up on exactly where you are at the moment. Tricky to do as you definitely don’t let the seaweed grow on the bottom of your boat before you’re off on your adventure. I grew up reading Joshua Slocum’s tales, all the books by Tristan Jones, Lin and Larry Pardy, etc and dreaming of someday following in their wakes but alas a storm destroyed my dream boat just before I was ready to venture forth a few years ago; the years rushed by and I found myself a landlocked grandpa. So, it’s great to be able to live vicariously through your great sailing videos. I didn’t dream that such able, purist sailors like yourself were still venturing the seven seas. Added congrats on being able to enjoy a recording career at the same time. Fair winds and happy picking.
Thank you for posting your videos! First I have to acknowledge the drone footage where you lock the drone in position while Ruthie does her thing, I like that. And then I have to say that as much as I like your accomplishment, I do miss the big blue with your tunes playing. I guess I really am a hermit. Please keep sharing! Maybe the philosopher will show himself again one of these days!?
Thanks for another great video Kevin. I’m glad you made it back to the islands safely and I look forward each week to watching another episode of your adventures!!
Thanks for the quick shot of Cruz Bay. It's the first time you've sailed into a place I've sailed into. Great fun for me. What a close packed and narrow anchorage that was for such a busy location.
Thanks for another great video, Kevin. I'm working my way through - what am I going to do when I get caught up? And you keep improving, the videography, the philosophical ramblings, your storytelling, all of it!
the skill involved in threading ruth between those cats and finding a spot to drop anchor without an engine makes me gasp! Then you go and pick up a mooring first shot. So much skill o7 sir o7
Love that engineless mooring. I can get underway and anchor without the engine but never tried picking up a mooring without it - gonna have to practice that one!
Kevin really liked this video. I guess looking at the Islands makes me think of how I wish I was there. The weather has been terrible for sailing in California. That's for another time.
@@howtosailoceans1423 Kev we had had 50 knot winds out of East for 2.5 days continuous then it dies down for 24 hours and switches to North for 40k for another 24 hours. I don't think I need to tell you damage caused in the marinas. Then Malibu gets enough snow to go sledding. Forgot to mention a week of 90s right before snow.
Okay, I have now watched all of most of your vids, and part of all the few remaining. Exactly why I am so enamored of blue water sailing videos is a mystery to me considering that I have never been out of sight of land on a sailboat. I can't sail a lick, but I can talk enough of the talk to sound a bit salty.
Did you get any footage while on St Thomas. I lived there from 92’ to 95’. Would love to go back. Thanks for the videos, living vicariously through you.
Long time subscriber...love this video. Enjoy your sail through the Caribbean. Q: Why not visit other islands? Is the reason the Covid restrictions? I just spent almost 4 weeks in Luperon!
I skipped the BVI's due to covid restrictions--you cannot even sail through there. Anyway, enjoying Salinas at present, plan to be in Luperon next week...
Another great video, appreciate them even more with it raining outside in the uk and confined to barracks due to lock down. Keep them coming to help us to keep smiling. Take care Jim.
Live music will return.... see ya scoping out the open mics.... will you tell us a bit about how your guitars fair in the constant temperature/humidity changes they must go through?
Nice Drone shots of you getting underway. Also liked how you are able to capture it single handed. If you should happen to be in the Keys in the next few months drinks and dinner are on me if we should be in the same locale. Though I'll be based on land while there. Fair winds.
I would love to see you flying all the canvas one day, I bet she looks stunning. I hope you don't mind me asking but do you have all the sails for her?
A sailing buddy of mine does that. I've decided not to do it. I'm committed to learn about my ⛵ and her intricacies. I have a motor and try not to use it for that purpose. Becoming a better sailor for it.
Did you have any issues with any country besides Covid issues? Like did they inspect your boat or board it? Not that you are hiding, I was just wondering in this present day and time.
@@howtosailoceans1423 Thanks, wasn't sure if things changed much recently. Also was wondering if you have considered hand line fishing for additional meal options while out in the ocean?
Even older vids are fun watching. Watching it is still in real time for me.
Sometimes a replay to see which lines are pulled.
Just got the new T Shirt. It is way nicer than most of the ones I have gotten from UA-cam Creator. Great product...
One man show, yet the best pure sailing channel out here in the UA-cam world! 🍻

Oh the philosopher is irrepressible, but he does take some time to gather his thoughts ...
Nice work getting onto that mooring. 👍. I’ve sailed the BVI - lovely place.
Welcome to my home, St.Thomas 👍🏽🇻🇮
Such an excellent sailor! He makes picking up a mooring under sail look easy. Much respect!
As vast as it is, the ocean is full of crazy creatures and you are one of them Boothby. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for another great video Kevin. I’m glad you made it back to the islands safely and I look forward each week to watching another episode of your adventures!!
Great manœuvers ! Thanks for sharing !
Atleast one out of the two hundred sailing channels I watch, actually do some sailing.
Thanks Kevin, classic opening! Really great to see the close manoeuvring and view of sail handling from the drone. Top gaffer, cheers.
Your videos just keep getting better! Thank you!
This is my favorite sailing channel out of the dozens I'm subscribed to!
Thanks for the video. I grew up on st.croix. Haven't been back since I went to college 27 years ago (geez I feel old now).
Another Excellent video Good job
Getting close to Florida again. Glad to see you had safe passage and no serious problems. Fair winds and get some rest as well.
Thanks for the quick shot of Cruz Bay. It's the first time you've sailed into a place I've sailed into. Great fun for me. What a close packed and narrow anchorage that was for such a busy location.
Watching you maneuver around looking for a spot to drop anchor or pick up a mooring all under sail is truly inspiring!
Great sailing video
Absolutely great! We lake sailors look upon this with envy, envy, envy. Tim
Freedom isn't free , got to earn it ..great job and example.
Awesome . My old stomping grounds.
Thanks again. Glad you made it safely. Happy New Year. “Ahoy Everybody”. Would make a nice swag T Shirt.
Really inspired me,while I'll never be the seaman that you are,I've started shopping for a boat. Next winter in the Keys and the Bahamas!
That intro was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks 👍🏼
Good intro !!
Good to hear from you 😀
Your very inspirational, keep it up young man 🐙🐋🦈🐳🐡🐬🐠🦭🐟⛵⚓🌬
Tagged that mooring perfectly, you have been practicing.

Hey Kevin, thank you for another wonderful video.👏👍⚓️
Great video Kelvin. Weather looks so good compared to freezing on the east coast USA.
Love that engineless mooring. I can get underway and anchor without the engine but never tried picking up a mooring without it - gonna have to practice that one!
Moorings are tougher as far as the landing goes, but then take off is just drop and go.
Great to see you Skipper. You make this stuff seem so easy. Happy new year Sir.
Happy new year, Ash.

How could the weather be terrible in California? I'm sure it will turn fair soon.

Thank you for making the video.
Now that's a proper ahoy! 😁
Always a pleasure tagging along.
Hello welcome home 🏡, saludos enjoy
Happy new year, Kevin. All the best to you in 2021.
The Drone shots are very professional buddy. Great job..
Seems like this video has a new fresh energy! well done! looking forward to more.
Pizza Boat sounds kinda cool. Great video as always. Ahoy.
Great job mate! Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations on 20k subscribers
Can’t wait to see Culebra
It's a gem.
Happy new year Kevin!

How sweet it is!
Happy new year! This video made me feel again how lucky you are! Following seas!
Fantastic as always :)
Getting underway solo while also flying the drone now that’s multi tasking 😁 enjoying the journey. 👍
Yes, multitasking is the word for it, good cheap thrills.
amazing intro!
As always beautiful video and welcome back a hell of a voyage. Cheers kevin stay safe.

What a shocker Kevin is back in Culebra
Happy New Year, Kevin, and welcome back to the US.
Happy new year Mario!
As always... great 👍
Warren
Awesome...thank you!!
Was anchored in the same spot in st Thomas for almost a year back in about 91/92. Used to be a decent marina hotel complex. Lots of fun times!
Hello nice drone camera work. 📷 saludos
Good to see you back on this side Kevin, always enjoy your videos.
" C'mon Ruthie!" LOL I call mine by her pet name too!
Welcome home! Thanks for including us on yer journey :)
Indeed, we sailors have pet names for our craft, and pat them affectionately when they serve us well.
need to get a folding bike!!
It's funny to see cars driving on the left hand side of the road in a U.S. territory!
Another great video, appreciate them even more with it raining outside in the uk and confined to barracks due to lock down. Keep them coming to help us to keep smiling. Take care Jim.
Ahh For FS I almost went looking for you!! Welcome back.. Well done...
Happy New Year ! We’ll be in St. John next week - just missed you. Thanks for the video
Best sailing channel on the tube! If you get near Jacksonville,Florida, would love to meet up and buy you supper. Cheers👌
I’m surprised you are in such a hurry to leave the Caribbean. I expect it’s far nicer there in the winter than the east coast of the us.
Yes, indeed, although Florida is OK except for the occasional strong northers ...
Live music will return.... see ya scoping out the open mics.... will you tell us a bit about how your guitars fair in the constant temperature/humidity changes they must go through?
They're holding up quite well, actually.

look at you. Quite the film maker for a finance goop. love your channel.
“Finance goop?” What’s the deal? I am a recovering banker myself. :)
You're inspiring
Strange to see cars in a HtSO vid. Thanks for the effort. gary
Welcome back to North America!
WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!
I would love to see you flying all the canvas one day, I bet she looks stunning. I hope you don't mind me asking but do you have all the sails for her?
Of course, including a topsail but I never fly it.
Dang! Was going to order a t-shirt but more than the cost of the shirt to mail it to canada!
Is yours an engineless boat ? My Cheoy Lee needs a new engine and I'm thinking of going without. Love the videos.
It is! Kevin made a few videos which talk specifically about getting into and out of harbors like a chess player... Also sculling.
Kevin, what is your favorite treatment for tiller wood?
Oh for a burst of power from a motor.
Kevin, when picking up a mooring why doncha run your line aft to the cockpit from the forward cleat?
A sailing buddy of mine does that. I've decided not to do it. I'm committed to learn about my ⛵ and her intricacies. I have a motor and try not to use it for that purpose. Becoming a better sailor for it.
Ahoy. Nice sailing, hope the VIs have recovered from the hurricane a few years ago. Did you go to The Baths?
YES. Gonna watch, then cook dinner. Or watch twice.
Ahoy!!
Go to Puerto Rico!!
Looks like I will stop at Boqueron next.
Cabo rojo is such a nice plays, but first stop by salinas, salinas is first than boquerón(cabo rojo), when navigating in the south of Puerto Rico
Happy New Year. Sorry to repeat the question how much chafe do you get on the main sail lacing?? ( The rope that attatches the main sail to the mast )
Very little chafe there, I've had the same lacing for at least 7 years now.
Did you have any issues with any country besides Covid issues? Like did they inspect your boat or board it? Not that you are hiding, I was just wondering in this present day and time.
Covid really did not affect me much. Mostly it was all the usual wearing masks inside, temperature checks at the door, etc.
@@howtosailoceans1423 Thanks, wasn't sure if things changed much recently. Also was wondering if you have considered hand line fishing for additional meal options while out in the ocean?
👍!!!
"always go with your first guess" I don't know that ended me up on child support D:
