Big big fan of the hard top convertible… bc of the way they did the rear it makes it look exactly like a 458 and very close to a McLaren.. they killed it on the convertible
Just got my 2023 HTC and man I’m so glad I went with the convertible. First, I live in Florida so it’s a no-brainer. Second, the convenience of being able to press a button and drop the top is unmatched. It’s honestly such a huge flex too. Finally, the nacelles make the c8 look truly exotic. Edit: Also retaining the frunk and trunk space with the top down is a huge plus
I have the HTC and it’s amazing. It’s great for road trips with bags fitting in the back. It looks more exotic. Comes with a window that rolls down. Don’t have to clean the engine. The top looks so cool going up or down and kids and adults love to all see it operate. Different colored nacelles look good too.
Thanks Mike for the great video.....Great info.....HTC is the way to go...HTC cars are awesome looking. I have one on order,,,Can't wait....Torch red with red dipped interior....Yea, I know, you got to love red.....I do....
The big difference that you didn't mention is that the impulse to go topless can be satisfied quickly and easily with a convertible. In the coupe, your impulse to go topless in killed by the hassle. You will go topless more often in the convertible and enjoy your car that much more.
I'm going with the HTC myself, no question. I'm very close to getting the call to actually get an allocation, after 14 months on the list. About time, but man, it will be worth it. Really enjoying your new videos on the HTC. Totally confirms why I wanted it in the first place.
I’ve never wanted a convertible until they went to HTC. The design, the fact you can put the top down and lose no space (the HTC truck space is “slightly” smaller than a coupe, but obviously much more room of the tops are down/off. Also being able to lower the rear window.
I just found your channel Thanks so much for this video. I just purchased the exact same car, almost. I don't have red calipers or seat belts. Otherwise looks about the same with the same features. I pick it up in about 5 days, since I'm having some details added to it. I wanted the convertible for the convenience, look, and trunk space. To me, the extra money is definitely worth it. Who really wants to get in and out of the car to move the top off and on? This is my first Corvette and IDK how it works for others (waiting for an order), but I was sitting around on a Friday night, built my dream car on the Chevrolet website, found that my perfect car was 20 miles away down the 101 freeway, saw it on Wednesday, and had the purchase completed on Friday with no markup...maybe it was divine guidance. I was blown away just by sitting in the car, the technology, the convenience of the top, the back window, the mid engine that was really quiet (compared to a '72 Pantera that I've driven before). I haven't even driven my car yet. It's the best time of year in Arizona for a convertible so I'm very excited about picking up my car next week.
I have changed my mind on the convertible as well. Mainly due to maintaining trunk space with the top down, and not needing to clean the coupe rear glass. Lastly, I do think the convertible looks better.
The HTC is totally worth it. Mine has it. I did not car about seeing the engine and didn’t want to deal with having to clean the engine every time I wash the car. ✌🏾🙏🏽
Just took delivery 2023 Arctic white HTC with adrenaline red interior, from outside it looks almost the same as yours, I love the convertible, it made the car look more exotic and it’s so convenient. I would say get every option you wanted, already paying $80k, don’t regret later by saving few thousands, the only option I don’t have is 3LT which I won’t regret lol.
Love my convertible. It is truly one transformer ride. Guys tell me they hate having to clean the engine all the time, which is one reason why I got the convertible. For once to me, the convertible looks more exotic looking than the regular hard top.
Since the standard coupe is a removable hard top convertible, the editors at Car & Driver said to spend your money on other options. I have a 2022 C8, and rarely take the top off. I did open air driving at first, but quickly found it much more comfortable to have an enclosed cockpit.
If I had to manually remove the top every time and put it back when I park, I'd never do it. The time it takes and the chance for damage are a big drawback. Push button top down makes all the difference.
Car and driver is wrong. The convertible looks so much better. I've been waiting since April for an MSRP-honoring dealer...so I could get the convertible.
@@valk-wattsonapex7285 Had 3 other Vettes all coupes. Now I have a 21 HTC Z51, I will never go back to a coupe, , if you want the top off 17 seconds and its open air, and you don't lose all your luggage space. It is worth the $7500

I'd rather put the $8200 toward the HTC option, and have change left, rather than the Z51 and the Magride. Much more bang for the buck IMHO. And much easier to sell than a coupe. The HTC is so convenient, it's hard to think coupe anymore. I'm sure you thought of that when you put yours together. Thank You for the posts. We appreciate you!!
That’s exactly what I did. No regrets. Back end looks better without the spoiler in my opinion and the car rides fine without the Z51. I don’t ever plan on taking mine to the race track and if I did I’d get the Z06. My other car is a Tesla and I will buy the electric Vette when it comes out and will look at the SUV electric too.
Happy for you. I’ve loved the HTC since I got it. If I would have gotten a coupe I’d never take the top off. It’s always down so I can enjoy the elements
My shadow grey metallic HTC has been called “the Batmobile” or “transformer” car since day 1. I’ve owned targa top cars, and I hated the “stop and rush to put in on” when the rain comes, and did not want to lose the trunk space. Also, you can hear the exhaust much, much better.
IMO YES!!! I wanted to get a C8 and initially started my 2022 build as a Coupe as the Convertible was an additional $7,500. When it got time to submit my Build to GM, my wife and I discussed the color selection, Front Lift and Coupe or Convertible. The build was at around $80,000 as a Coupe and she said “Order it the way you want it.” Carte Blanche Baby!!! So from Elkhart Lake Blue to Red Mist, add Front Lift and get the HTC! Im happy you touched on the sound part, because I think the car sounds WAY better with the top down. Less engine noise and way more exhaust noise. It's WAY better sounding with the top down.
I agree with you that the convertible is a better-looking car, both with the top up and down. I fall into the category of drivers who are not big on drop-tops. Never have been.; I like the quiet of coupes and prefer the AC to open air driving. I also couldn't care less about having the engine visible. I had a 2021 coupe that I sold last year, and I'm considering a 2024, but for I don't think the extra $7500 is justifiable for me, even though it IS a better looking car.
The HTC is well worth the option cost. Car becomes even more exotic to those whom witness the roof action (especially underway) - and you have MORE luggage room than coupe! Plus the HTC is calmer inside cockpit while roof is down vs roof panel being removed on the coupe. And if you want to see your engine, the aftermarket clear polycarbonate engine cover is great to show off engine. Honestly, only dedicated track cars (as a coupe) would gain ANY advantage over the HTC by simply shedding 80 lbs and MAYBE gaining a fraction of a second on track.
I have a 70th Anniversary HTC. I love the look of the car top up or down. I have owned the t-top corvettes in the past. The t-top does not come equal to the HTC. Every owners has their likes and dislikes and there is no wrong answer.
My C5 had a removable top, and I had no problem spending 30 seconds to take it off. I loved warm weather driving with the top off. The C8 HTC has a LOT of moving parts. I'd like to see some long term data from GM on how those parts hold up. Also Mike, the Captain America vette, best wrap EVER!
Dam, your spec is almost exactly what I will spec for the exterior colors.... will match my other car...Awesome ! Plus I always take the top off my my C7 and scared that I'll damage it so HTC is the perfect answer!
Hey, I have a white 2022, Z51, HTC…and I love it. It’s so convenient. Yes, all C8’s are ‘convertible’ but the HTC is awesome. Love it (and your new vette is beautiful). I wanted white interior (I got tan) but it wasn’t an option, at the time. Be safe my friend!
This is a really cool feature, and I like how it looks. My only concern would be the added maintenance/risk for breakage....so many moving parts and risk for damage with this design.
Plus it's hard to find 2024 convertible corvette. I'm in Northern California in the Sacramento county and not all dealers carry convertible. I got lucky I got one in one of the Chevrolet dealerships. I grab it right away knowing from Sacramento to San Francisco dealerships no one carries it.
If you are buying a car that cost that much to begin with, the premium is not a lot more for what you get. And a hardtop is probably the only convertible I'd consider. But for me, I'd probably only get to use it a couple of days a year down here in Houston! Lol! Enjoy it Mike!
in case of mechanical/electrical failure, how can you lift the top/ have access to the engine bay? Also, is the emergency keyhole in the rear license plate gone for 2023? If so, how can you open the trunk manually? Thanks
It's really simple. Buy the HTC instead of wasting your money on the Z51 because the HTC is something you can actually enjoy all the time compared to the Z51 which is pretty much meaningless outside of the track. Also you do not need mag ride on the non Z51 so it's actually $1000 cheaper. Spending the $1295 for the Carbon Flash top and nacelles is a must have option so overall it's a wash.
Thank you for this very insightful video. I really appreciate it. I just put in my purchase order for a C8 stingray 2LT accelerate metallic yellow Convertible with a carbon flash paint on the top and nacelles that is non-Z51 last week saturday. Your video definitely gave me an idea of how my C8 stingray would look like. I can't wait for it to come in next year 2023 between the months of May - August! I really appreciate this video and subscribe to your channel. 🙏👍
I ordered the 2024 stingray convertible 1LT with the Z51 performance package and hoping it will be built and delivered soon. Needless to say I'm excited.
I was on the fence and ordered the coupe then after waiting 2 years I choose to go to another dealer in Florida and bought one in three days. The only choice I had was the convertible, and boy am I glad I did instead of the Coupe. Love being able to open and shut it on the drive, quick rains its worth it. Only thing I hate is that you can't put the top up by remote. Only can put it down. Did have to pay $10,000 over sticker.
If I lived in the south I would probably lean toward the HTC. But up north here, I mostly drove with my top in my C7. I did order the dual roof package to get the tinted roof in the C8. Opens things up a bit. In reality I kinda like both but I wanted to see the engine so that’s why I went with the coupe. Great video with all valid points! Thanks!👍😎
Love my HTC as well. Only downside so far with me is having to deal with the grease caked on the top of the glass 24/7 to eliminate any possible squeaks.
Just bought a previous owned 2023 HTC, Red Mist, LIFT, Z51. Saved 15, 000 under what the previous owner paid. After 40 years and owning 5 Corvette. I'm tired of removing roof. No. No Mag. I'll live my 72 doesn't have Mag either. I've owned my 72 40 years. You can't go wrong. I love watching folks faces at signal lights driving off lowering the HTC.
I’ve owned t-top vettes and Camaro’s , c5 was a game changer with the targa top , I absolutely loved my s2000 the top was always off , id have to get the htc , l ordered one but canceled because it took so long.
@@BrinkofSpeed Mike, mine literally said: "Baby, get it! You deserve to have the car that you want." She enjoyed herself immensely at the NCM delivery exactly two weeks ago. We both dressed in white to match the style of my pearl white, 70th Anniversary HTC. Maybe we'll see you, on the road...
Nice info. I purchased the HTC as well. Should have it in a few weeks. Just wanted a change from my C7 top. I also like the look of the HTC. Showing off the engine is nice but for me once you have seen one engine you have seen them all unless they are dressed up. Mike not sure if you were saving this for another vid but I did not hear you talk about the mirror / camera that comes with all the HTC vehicles. Which is nice if you have a 1 LT. If you have a 1LT coupe you do not get the mirror/camera
Now you have to add the engine bay cover and engine cover. I got both from American Hydocarbon. Engine cover customize w ceramic grey and red. Beautiful. Pat the owner is the president and his customer service is top notch.
Hi Mike. I ordered my first C8 (coupe) in 2019 and received it in 2021 and I love it!!! However, I feel the same way you do about the HTC...it really looks like an exotic car. Soooo...I placed one on order and will get it by the end of this year!
I love the HTC. Smart doing the carbon flash top and nacelles and the other distinctive feature 2 tone seat sky grey. I added the door sill blacked out lighted sting Ray-Mike an absolute must. Do you have Jake all weather mats? I have an extra set If interested.
If considering an often and/or daily driver, the HTC is a must. In the coupe the exposed side vents and opening at the end of the glass is a mess waiting to happen. Any morning dew, sprinkle, or rain gets everywhere, the back of the rear glass is a PIA to reach/clean and yes, it does get wet from air forcing rainwater forward to the rear glass. I disagree with comments made about the wind noise level on the coupe with the top off vs the HTC being the same. The non-adjustable rear window in the couple is high and catches the air coming over the windshield, where-as the HTC rear glass can be lowered allowing the air to flow. The coupe is an amazing vehicle, and the engine view aspect is a cool novelty; however, the cleaning to maintain that view is a PIA after the novelty wore off... I am perfectly fine with the dirty engine bay being covered. As a daily driver, my initial intent was to reduce several parts like the electric motors, switches, and sensors the HTC employes for its operation, but I will take my chances on the HTC.
Another useful and helpful video. I am on the fence to the coupe/targa and the convertible. I have owned two drop tops and three Targa top cars so I am fine with either. Does the Targa also have the ability to roll down the rear window? Aesthetically, I like the looks of the Targa because the engine is visible but I like the fact that you can get the nacels and roof in carbon flash on the convertible so it's kind of a push there. I tend to think the rear of the Targa looks a little slimmer, not as heavy as the convertible because of the visible engine. If I were to get a targa, I'm pretty sure I would get the accessory see through roof panel. My concern with that though is that the cabin might get too hot or the sun may be too reflective and interfere with comfortable vision. The "black" top of the convertible gives the c8 kind of a McLaren box but I think c8 is more aesthetically successful. The other thing and nagging at me is is it worth $7,500 more just for the convenience? vs. well I miss the enjoyment of having a see-through top? I guess we all like to feel "smart" when we make a purchase and even feel like we got a good value, it's much easier for me to feel that way with the Targa. Still ruminating
If I could do it again, I would’ve went with HTC. Me and the wife was on a road trip. Coming from cold weather traveling to 80 degree weather in Florida. I pulled over to take the top off and quickly realized we had our luggage in there. Had to get to the resort to off load our luggage first.
SOOOOO!!!! What is it like driving with the tops off/down on each car? Can you tell a difference in the feeling of openness between the two? Does the HTC feel more open to the world around you than the coupe or vis versa?
With the top down in my black z07 it looks like a lambo or ferrari. I love blasting down the country roads at unreal speeds. Obviously if you want to use ESC off over 120mph+ you need the top up.
I just hate how you lose the view of the motor with the HTC. Part of the mid-engine allure is walking up and looking through the rear hatch at a motor staring back. I love that. I get the desire for a HTC though, so don't think I'm hating on it, I just like the aesthetics of seeing the mid-engine setup.
My C8 HTC 2LT, Mag ride, front lift should have rolled off the line today! I’m looking forward to lots of top down driving! Quick question Mike: How much clearance do you need to to raise and lower the top? More specifically, can you raise and lower the top inside your garage?
Convertibles look 100% better with the nacelles. Convenience of raising and dropping the top, as well keeping the little storage it has. When youre already into the 80's for a car, the upgrade is worth it.
I'm sooooo happy I went with the HTC. Now after owning it for a while is there any way to get rid of the creeks from the top when it's up and you go through dips? Also with the top up and the open back window the Z51 exhaust sounds sooooo good!
The only two reasons not to get the HTC are, you like cleaning the engine in the coupe or, you can’t afford it. I’ve had mine for 2.5 years. I had a C7 coupe for 5 years. I had the top off the C7 maybe 5 times. You had zero storage with the top off unless you left it at home. With the C8, it’s a joy. Just push the button. If$7,500 is a problem on an otherwise $80k car. You really can’t afford the car.
I was on team couple until I watched this video. I live just outside of Chicago and don't know how much I'd use the HTC but it would be nice to have when the weather is nice. Hmmm
Buy Once, Cry Once, get the 2LT HTC, you will want the extra features in the 2LT package, upgrades stereo, heated/cooled seats, blind spot warnings in the mirrors etc…
Worth it if money is no object. Not worth it if you consider resale and you either put too down all the time or you never take top down, it is already a targa top which means the top is removable as needed. Targa roof is always a unique identity of Corvette, id say it’s more classical. It’s so easy and simple mechanism which you won’t need worry about much in the long run. Save money and save weight and save hassle.
I wish Corvette made a normal C8 with the flat crank V8. I don't want the wider body or all the hoarse power... I want a practical car with the sound and high revving motor :)
I drive a convertible Mustang and I drive it down 999% of the time. Definitely want the convertible C8 but many dealerships in my area keep having shit colors.
Hello Mike, what a beautiful supercar! HTC is the way to go. Good choice! Does your 2023 C8 still have the cylinder deactivation feature like those of 2020-21 model?
No, I don’t dislike it. In the matter of fact, I want this feature because I have heard from other C8 owners on other UA-cam channels how they liked it and how much gas they could save. I have not yet owned a C8 or any other Corvette models before. Mine will probably arrive to my dealership sometime in April or May of 2023. It has been a long wait for me. What a journey to own such a beautiful supercar! Thank you for all the great uploads about the Corvette C8 and things related to it.
Rick Conti keenly reminded folks to close back window as he made that mistake one night. I think it wasn’t in a garage don’t remember but was concerned about animals.
I like the convertible top the way it looks but what bothers me is how long is it gonna last before things start happening to those motors that are lifting that up and the whole idea with the new C8 was to be able to see the engine I think the $7000 cost for the LT2interior as I think a much better bargain than a convertible top. It’s going to be a tough decision when I do get a chance to order a car
100 percent agree the looks alone make it look exotic. I wouldn't have gone with the look you chose...my build is unique...and simple. It looks like a 60s or 70s racecar with new tech. I like yours, but mine will catch everyone's eye. I like the traditional silver color and the red interior is going to turn heads. Add red racing stripes, and the body color paint with the low spoiler...I havent seen one like that anywhere.
Until GM offers a clear engine cover I'd stay away. There must be a reason they don't offer one. At present, $600 or $700 for a small sheet of plastic is ridiculous. Seems like a money grab IMHO.
Jury is still out of the clear covers create additional heat that can cause damage when the top is in the down position. Nothing that exciting about the LT2 motor, my opinion I don’t need to see it.
@@cn3dagain819 true, not something I’m considering, I’m not the type of person that feels the need to see/show the engine. If I at a car event I think my car looks the best with the top down, not in service mode with it sticking up.

This man speaks from his heart. I feel for him coz I have one.
I agree with all of your pro's that is exactly why I traded in my 2020 Coupe for a 2023 HTC....
For me nothing beats being able to see the engine in the back so the coup is by far my favorite option.
Should be under warranty
Still a hassle...I like to drive my car not keep it in the repair shop.@@socallawrence
I have a little bit of coupe regret but still happy. Liked the video and that's an amazing build you did.
Switched to the HTC and love it. People go crazy when the top goes up and down.
My first C8 was a coupe. My second was the HTC and it was worth it. The headroom is better in the HTC.
I’ve owned t-top vettes and Camaro’s , c5 was a game changer with the targa top , I absolutely loved my s2000 the top was always off , id have to get the htc , l ordered one but canceled because it took so long.
Because of your video on your new convertible my wife is bugging me to get rid of my 2019 C7 Z06 manual and get a convertible. Thanks 😅
Lol, whoops! BTW, there are a lot of guys that would love to have their wives bugging them to get a new Corvette 😉
The HTC I believe will retain a much higher value as the used market ages.
I will save another season so I can go from 1lt to 2lt htc. Good review, thanks!
Mine is great. Only drawback is, limited power adders. The aftermarket turbos, etc, seem only to be offered for the coupe.
There are twin turbo setups that mount them under and they look/sound sick!
With the top down in my black z07 it looks like a lambo or ferrari. I love blasting down the country roads at unreal speeds. Obviously if you want to use ESC off over 120mph+ you need the top up.
Wash your rear window lip seal area. Its smudged around the edge. That would drive me nuts. But i am definitely buying one next year. Awesome car.
It’s totally worth it.
Not just for the convenience but the look it gives is way more exotic.
Gives the overall car a way lower profile.
I intend to go and place my order for my C8 HTC this week! 😃
I prefer the coupe, that's the one I plan on going with since I'm a big fan of convertible, but this video is very convincing
Mike with the top down or off is wind buffering an issue in either car and/ or is it controllable in the convertible with the rear window. BC
When I look at the engine in a C8 coupe, all I see are plastic covers wires and pipes.
So does water stay behind the back window area when washing it?
Just ordered my AW/Natural Dipped C8 convertible last week. Stoked but going to be a long 3-4 months :(
My C8 HTC 2LT, Mag ride, front lift should have rolled off the line today! I’m looking forward to lots of top down driving! Quick question Mike: How much clearance do you need to to raise and lower the top? More specifically, can you raise and lower the top inside your garage?
Unless your garage is lower than usual, it should be fine.
It won’t be a problem and will easily clear a 7th garage door. You won’t have any issues.
The top will EASILY clear the garage. I do it all the time inside the garage. You will be amazed at how little room it needs and will love it!
I have owned 10 Corvettes. 8 have been convertibles. In my opinion, a Roadster is the only way to go!
Convertibles look 100% better with the nacelles. Convenience of raising and dropping the top, as well keeping the little storage it has. When youre already into the 80's for a car, the upgrade is worth it.
How's the fuel economy difference between the two?
I'm sooooo happy I went with the HTC. Now after owning it for a while is there any way to get rid of the creeks from the top when it's up and you go through dips? Also with the top up and the open back window the Z51 exhaust sounds sooooo good!
Heck yeah it’s worth it ! Love my 2023 HTC 🔥🔥
Also, all HTC come with rear view mirror camera as standard.
I was on team couple until I watched this video. I live just outside of Chicago and don't know how much I'd use the HTC but it would be nice to have when the weather is nice. Hmmm
HOW CAN WE PAINT THE MANIFOLD- EASILY...IS IT HARD TO REMOVE
Heck yes. Plus u get the rear view camera
I have hard time decide between coupe 2LT or convertible 1LT 😒thanks for the video 👍
HTC all the way. No brainer
Buy Once, Cry Once, get the 2LT HTC, you will want the extra features in the 2LT package, upgrades stereo, heated/cooled seats, blind spot warnings in the mirrors etc…
Just don't waste your money on Z51 and mag ride on a 1LT and their is no cost penalty for getting the HTC with black top and nacelles.
I heard that their is more head room in the convertible compared to the coupe. What’s your read on that?
What do you think about resale of HTC vs non-HTC? The $7500 you spend for HTC you probably get most of it back when you re-sell it.
I've put the top up and down at 28mph and its totally fine.
I hate the sun. But this is a convertible I would buy for evening driving.
Mike, if you could only get one option, LT2, convertible or Z51 what would you choose?
For me 2 LT, you miss out on so many basic features with the 1LT.
Same. 2LT is the best money spent on a Corvette. 👍
Thank you, I figured Mike would know best owning these options.
I forgot to say. My 72 coupe only has the targo tops on. Is the Gas station.
Thank you, I appreciate it. Unfortunately it does still have AFM. They got rid of that for the Z06 only.
Can the AFM be turn on/off manually? I am asking because I currently am waiting for my 2023 HTC C8. Thank you, Mike.
@@howardtran5904 Drrive it in Manual mode, the AFM is not active.
@@BrinkofSpeed Why do you dislike it? The transition is seamless and can delivery close to 30 MPG on the highway.
I am next at my dealer to order a 2023 Convertible. Thinking I should switch to the 2024!
Is the drag coefficient better with the coupe than the convertable with the top up of course?
100 percent agree the looks alone make it look exotic. I wouldn't have gone with the look you chose...my build is unique...and simple. It looks like a 60s or 70s racecar with new tech. I like yours, but mine will catch everyone's eye. I like the traditional silver color and the red interior is going to turn heads. Add red racing stripes, and the body color paint with the low spoiler...I havent seen one like that anywhere.
Dope and definitely feelin' this cuz you can go either way 😊
Love my 2023 Z06 convertible 👍
I do too!
We don’t want to hear it 😂🤣😆
Dr.Corvette Was your Corvette once wrapped in Red Bull with Dr Vette plates?
@@a.s.251 (No)
Seriously, If your buying a new C8 and you want a HTC. You get it. Money shouldn’t be an issue. $7500, a no brainer.
1000 % worth every penny love my 2023 c8 htc
Until GM offers a clear engine cover I'd stay away. There must be a reason they don't offer one. At present, $600 or $700 for a small sheet of plastic is ridiculous. Seems like a money grab IMHO.
Jury is still out of the clear covers create additional heat that can cause damage when the top is in the down position. Nothing that exciting about the LT2 motor, my opinion I don’t need to see it.
@@nrdemon1031 How long before it looks like a fogged up headlight lense?
@@cn3dagain819 true, not something I’m considering, I’m not the type of person that feels the need to see/show the engine. If I at a car event I think my car looks the best with the top down, not in service mode with it sticking up.
